Finally the time has come for pinkbike to kill ie6 support. We will no longer test new features with IE6. So you get this ugly/helpful message if you visit pinkbike with IE6.
ie6 still accounts for about 1 million page views per month on pinkbike...out of say 70 million. So it's not insignificant.
The amount of effort that needs to be put in to support advanced features which we are working on in ie6 really slows down development. So we made the call. The users still can see the site, but they may not be able to interact with it as much. This is for the overall good.
IE6 is an old browser. 10 years old. Since then, there are IE7, IE8, IE9 which all better, at least in the debugging support. People for some reason still use the old IE6 and that means that we must make special cases in our code to support it. Sometimes that is very painful, particularly since the IE6 does not have a javascript debugger. Using alerts to debug your code get old fast.
So now we just decided to not support it meaning that many of the upcoming features will not work in IE6. THose people have lots of options to upgrade.
