As cool as that would be, I think they just do it because Kashima's very abrasive-resistant and it looks neat. Same reason Moto guys get their uppers Kashima coated.

Down the bottom above the eyelet it says kashima coat. Yeah i really like the contrast with the blue looks hot.

it is kashima, they just decided to bring out the kashima more by making it darker and stand out more.
