Put a surefire (m series or something) on there, and get a new upper chambered in a real caliber (.223s are gross), put a eotech on, then you are good
  • 3 1
First of all, that is a Surefire on there in the pic. But currently I am using a Streamlight TLR-2 light/laser.

Nothing wrong with 5.56. Cheapest to shoot (besides .22lr) and gets the job done. Never going to put an Eotech on there, I hate how they look. If I could afford a nice optic I would put on an Aimpoint. Currently I have a 3-9x40 scope and 45° angled back up RDS on the side. This pic is pretty old. Here's an updated pic: lp1.pinkbike.org/p4pb7578271/p4pb7578271.jpg

Looks nice, that is the 6p led right? That is why I said to put a M (millennium) series on it, big difference. If this rifle is only meant for punching holes in paper then I guess .223 is fine. I really like the two tone btw.
  • 3 1
Yup, it's the 6P LED. I have the 6P Defender as well but it is a personal defense model so I don't need it on a rifle. It's my range gun so .223 is fine for target shooting. The only other caliber I would use on it would be 6.8 SPC.
  • 1 0
A 6.8 would be nice for home defense, a little expensive for the range. Do you reload? Do you have any other ar platform rifles? Im glad to here you are a surefire supporter and not a fenix supporter who says surefire is overpriced. edit: wow, I just now read the description and saw 6p led...
  • 2 1
Lol... As though several .223 rounds won't do the job lol
  • 1 0
A battle rifle should take someone down with 1-2 shots, not several.
  • 3 2
Hell just one bullet from anything is going to do some damage if you place it well. Failing that, get an AA-12, dude won't even be left to complain.
  • 2 1
 AA-12s are LEO.
  • 5 0
@tom, stop playing call of duty.
  • 5 4
" A battle rifle should take someone down with 1-2 shots, not several"... do you people live in a war zone or something? Im sure this thing is fun as hell to shoot but is there any real practical purpose to owning a gun like this?
  • 2 1
Home defense and they are just really fun to shoot.

Are there any practical reasons to own anything?
  • 3 2
 @seraph what? ahha
  • 2 4
 No one answered my question.
  • 4 3
Yes, there are most definitely practical reasons to buy certain items. It is, however, questionable whether buying a military spec assault rifle is practical. As I stated before though, Im sure they are fun as hell.
  • 5 3
Is there any practical reason for non-professional riders to set their bikes up like the pros?
  • 7 0
Yes because most people who buy those kinds of bikes ride the same caliber trails that pros ride. Im just assuming that you don't go around shooting people like an actual sodier... I suppose I could be wrong.
  • 4 2
My point is that the amateurs who ride pro-level bikes don't need those bikes because they're not as good as the pros are. Regardless of what courses they ride, most kids don't need $8000 DH bikes. They buy those bikes because they're cool and they're nice-looking and bling blang, brother. My $2000 rifle shoots the same bullets as a Smith & Wesson M&P-15 Sport that retails for about $650, but damn does mine look good and feel good in my hands.
  • 2 0
Its all good. Your money and you can spend it on what you want. No disrespect
  • 3 4
Have you or know anyone who has ever been in a position where they have had to defend their property with firearms? Seems like a bit of a joke to be arming yourself to the teeth to feel safer when you live in a first world country.
  • 2 1
Yes, I have known people who have had to defend their property and their loved ones with firearms. And I am by no means "armed to the teeth." I have an AR-15 with a bit of ammo and some spare mags. It's the only gun I presently own. Your first world country argument is invalid because there are criminals everywhere. Only the ones living in America will undoubtedly be better armed than the ones living in Brazil.
  • 3 2
So you are saying you would feel vulnerable and unsafe if you did not have your gun?
  • 3 2
I would certainly feel less safe.

 Pg. (1)
There are many, tons of examples of people defending themselves legally where a gun saved them their lives. A handgun may be better applicable at some situations but nevertheless, having a gun truly is security.

-- Here's a true story, no BS or exaggeration. I know the mother of this story and this is all filed on a police report..it's a crazy story and example:

// There was a daughter and a mother at home. The daughter was previously dating/living with a man who was absolutely CRAZY. He did meth, was extremely abusive, often sending her to the hospital, incredibly possessive, mentally & emotionally insecure, and a complete psycho. One defiant word or action would leave her beaten and "put" into place. Enough was enough, the daughter at one point finally got the courage and left the crazy BF for many reasons including for her own safety and life, plus, she was trying to get clean off meth.

// The daughter knew if she wanted to live, she would never be able to tell the BF face-to-face that she wanted to leave. So, the daughter finally decided to leave him and one day defiantly ran off without a word. And of course, when the BF came home and all was gone, including his "possession" or GF, he was outstandingly infuriated. This to him, was defiance and a personal insult. To make matters worse, she found out she was pregnant with his baby yet decided to keep it. Although she tried to keep the word down, like all things, it eventually got out. Friends told friends and soon enough the word got to the humiliated ex-BF who had been frantically looking for her, to forcefully take her back where she belonged. He realized he was going have to pay child support for something he did not want, on top of that already being dumped, humiliated, abandoned, on meth (in case you didn't know, meth makes you psychotically aggressive) he became inhumanely PISSED and wanted his revenge.

 Pg (2)

**IF you don't know why a man would get this angry, you haven't seen the crazy shit in life. Let me explain. This man had TONS of problems. He was on drugs, extremely possessive, abusive, insecure, and ill-tempered. The worst of the worst. In his psychotic, dope'd and deranged mind he truly believed the woman was completely his. His possession. To have someone leave you, defiantly, without a word is pure inner humiliation. In the sense of, "You couldn't keep your girl in place. You are a loser" And someone addicted to meth for many years is not a good thing. They are often borderline psychosis state, aggressive, and do things without thought or care. Plus his emotional insecurities compounding in, this man was terrible. He truly thought he gave so much to this woman and "loved" her, so much that IF HE COULDN'T HAVE HER, NO ONE WOULD.

// The Mother and daughter were at home, near the kitchen/living room. It was roughly little past noon. The father had gone away for work as always and was about 4 hours away doing electric company work. The daughter by now had a little bulge in her womb signifying she had decided to keep the baby and also stay away from meth. Soon enough, the mother heard a loud series of knocks on the door and she walked over. Idk how the next part happened but the door was opened enough for the man to kick it in. The mother was knocked over and she looked up, it was the ex-bf. And he was PISSED. He yelled something to this degree, "WHERE'S THAT STUPID BITCH, IM GOING TO KILL HER." The mother simply watched from the floor, in shock, as the ex-bf walked by, driven by rage, meth coursing through his blood.
  • 2 1
 Pg (3)

// The ex-bf stormed into the kitchen, armed with a Phillips screwdriver. He found the now screaming daughter and grabbed her hair, and began violently slamming her into the walls as he screamed obscenities. The mother got up and ran up to the ex-bf and tried vigorously to shake him off with anything she had. But to no avail, he was much too big and was powered by sheer rage. They say his face and wide eyes were literally filled with blood coursing through. The ex-bf turned around for a brief moment and backhanded the mother and knocked her over once again. At that point, the screams got louder, the mother watched in horror as the man repeatedly plunged the screwdriver into the daughter's stomach. Over and over. Blood poured everywhere. The mother thought "this man is really going to kill us". She got up, and ran for her master bedroom. A moment after, the ex-bf once again grabbed the barely conscious daughter by the hair and dragged her, following the fleeing mother. The ex-bf was heard saying "I'm going to strangle your Mother as you watch, then I'm going to kill you!" But as soon the ex-bf turned into the room the mother went into, he was met by the barrel of a .44 Magnum loaded with hollow-points. He froze at the doorway...

// Their family believed in self-defense and had bought many guns over the years for entertainment and peace of mind. When the husband was away, the locker was always open in case of anything happened. This is what they had been waiting for. The mother pointed the gun right at the ex-bf's heart.

 Con't Pg 4

She screamed "if you take one step closer I will shoot you!" With the daughter still held by the hair, bleeding profusely, the blood-covered man simply laughed and said, "Hahaha, you are too scared, you won't." And with that being said, he took one step forward towards the mother, intending to kill both of them. The mother, pulled the trigger, the hammer struck the .44 caliber, 320 grain, hollow-pointed bullet, propelling it forward at 1,400 feet per second, ripped through his chest cavity, blowing his heard and lungs out. He was dead before he hit the floor.

// The daughter was transported to the hospital, and later was fine. The tiny baby actually survived and later would give birth to a perfectly healthy son. She also is still clean off of meth. The mother was fine, but has PTSD from the incident. The Police came, and everything was sorted out. She did what she had to do, and at that point it was shoot a man in self-defense. Classic case of where legally bought guns can be used for self-defense.

* Imagine if she didn't have the gun. I would of never met the mother, and we would have possibly 2-3 dead people now (the husband who may of come home, then killed). These were woman, especially the mother was older and weaker, there was no chance she could of called the police in time, or let alone, fight the man. They would of been killed for sure, no way around that, if they didn't have the gun. Educated gun owners are important. I for sure am in the process of getting my own. You never know when it may be useful. Because I am not going to be a victim that says at the very moment before I die, "I wish I had a gun."*

The autopsy report did show signs of tons of meth in his blood.
Death by .44 Magnum Hollow 320 grain round, fired via .44 Magnum Double Action revolver.
Massive shock trauma to surround organs.
Massive channel wound.
Massive exit wound.
Bullet expanded violently and splintered slightly.
Severed/took out heart, lungs, spine, bones.
Instant death.

 tl:dr

But thanks?
  • 2 0
Shame you didn't. It's a great story. Thought you might appreciate a good story about self-defense and the ownership of guns while other people may not completely see why you may own a gun for that very reason.
  • 1 3
I don't really have time to read it all. You could have made it a lot shorter by removing all the "dramatic" elements and still have gotten your point across.
  • 1 0
I know. But it was how the story was told. Didn't feel cutting it short would do it justice.

TLDR: Crazy ex-bf kicks down door, stabs daughter. Husband is away. Mother runs to bedroom and pulls out .44 Mag. Shoots ex-bf.
  • 1 2
Yeah I've heard similar stories before. There was one up here in Santa Rosa not too long ago. Crazy ex-boyfriend show up at house, takes mother of ex-girlfriend hostage, gets shot in head by brother of ex-girlfriend who shows up shortly afterward.
  • 3 0
dude that story is f*cked i cant believe i just read that :/
  • 1 2
What part of the story is f*cked?
  • 1 0
ohh dude the part where the meth dude started stabbing the pregnant ladies belly but thats just me the 44 mag made me happy at the end tho
  • 1 2
Yeah I'm with you on that. Like I said it was a bit long and drawn-out. Could have skipped all the dramatic bits and just said "Hey one time a gun saved this chick."
  • 2 0
Yo DO NOT need something like this for home defense plain and simple... It's awesome and all, but y Glock 21 (10mm) is easier to manuver and will put anyone/thing down in one well placed shot (for ultimate reliability go revolver, a .357 does a DAM fine job of knocking down anything shy of an elephant or a wild boar, just be sure you've got the arm strength to shoot it Wink ). You own these for the fun of shooting and for when the zombies take over, not "home defence" (not that they won't work for it, it's just overkill) Hell, my Gerber LHR or my mil-spec. autoknife makes a nice "unlesss you got a gun you got a probem a*shole" alternative and you don't have to re-load it Wink Not knocking owning these rigs (I've got an AR15 that's "slightly moded"), but with all the fun that auto's are, my favorite "RIFFLE" for home defense is stil the shortened chasis lever action "Ranger special" I've had since my Grandad passed away (someday I'll pass it on to my kids its such a great gun). Sometimes a rifle is a liability in tight confines and can lead to inacurate firing if you;re not familiar with tactical mevements and cearing space... Not trying to preach @ anyone, I love my firearms as well, but some folks see these things and think "I need that to protect myself"... 99% of the time ANY firearm will disuade some looped out idiot from making a move and in reality survival is the object of any confrontation. Like I said, if you aint got a firearm and I pull out my LHR (fighting knife) you're in for some trouble all the same. Plus, how many times do you really ever need to use something like this to it's potential aye. I travel out to the boonies more then most and just HAVING my G21 on the dash is often enough to keep the "I'm gonna f*ck with you out of towners crowd at bay Wink
  • 1 0
FWIW I put a several thousand lb. wild horse (we used the meat to feed our Maremmas, dogs that watched over our goat herds) down in Austrlia with a .22LR (I'll have to scan that picture in... you guys might like that one, it is a bit gruesome though aye)... Biger usually just means you don't have to be as prescise in your shooting Wink or you;re going for "stopping power"...
  • 1 0
nice man...reminds me a bit of the M4 i had in the army...only it was with fab defense parts and aimpoint scope...unfortunately in greece civilians can't own such weapons Frown

 i got an sks instead
  • 2 1
 AR-15 > SKS imo
  • 2 0
i know... but 200 dollars (number matching norcino) ha. i dont know why people hate on the 223/5.56 cheap, effective, good for everything, easy to find at a store. nice gun.
  • 1 0
If were gonna go down THAT road then the Kalishnakov tops them all aye Wink I don't dislike the SKS for any reason, but I do prefer my AR15. It's never given me any trouble and I know that when the zombie apolypse occurs I'm covered... Just jump in the Toyota and head for the hills...

Who keeps neg proping Seraph for answering questions??? Do we have a firearm hater in the mix or what???
  • 3 1
Not specifically a firearm hater. Probably just a Seraph hater. Haters gonna hate.
  • 1 0
I can realte... Nice AR BTW, it sure looks like fun to shoot aye. I love all the work you did on it, very "Tacticaly" accurate. Seraph 1 invading zombie hordes 0 Wink Enjoy mate.
  • 2 1
Sweet. Go put some holes in stuff.
  • 2 1
Good old CA and the 10/30 clip.
  • 2 1
Yeah, I could get some 10 rounders but I like the way the 30-round body looks a lot better. Plus 10 round mags don't fit in mag pouches.
  • 1 0
I agree that the 30 looks a lot better. I just hate that you can't buy a 30 round mag (legally). Cali's laws just suck that way. I'm just lucky that I bought some 20 rounders for my Mini-14 before the ban occurred.
  • 2 2
You can still "find" 30 round mags in CA though.
  • 2 0
 get some...

this sick. Out of curiosity, how much does it cost?

The first setup probably cost about $1500. As it is right now it is up to about $2000.

  • 2 2
Thanks, it was super fun to build. Now I just need to save up for some optics. Thinking maybe an ACOG or an Aimpoint Comp ML3.
  • 1 0
i'd keep it simple with a nice reflex
  • 2 1
Yeah, there are some cool relatively cheap reflex sights out there. I love the Aimpoints but they are almost half the cost of the whole rifle Eek

 Slick rig dude.
