^@ihateBC@^ how do you hate BC. There probably wouldn't be a pinkbike if it wasn't for BC, and also there probably wouldn't be mountain biking (especially DH). So pretty much your dissing like the george washington of biking, except for its canadian not american.
or is that just a name and you actually like BC?

@neallynberg Mountain biking was invented in the USA in Marin on Mount Tamalpais by some guys who started bombing down fireroads on cruisers and it grew from there. BC definitely pushed the sport and made freeriding and dh grow, but mountain biking would probably still exist, just not at the extreme level it is today.

@airbornemtnbiker there were people mountain biking in other countries long before anyone rode down Mt Tam on a cruiser... There were guys riding off road on bikes with gears and knobby tires and flat bars as early as the 40's I believe. In fact I watched an old video of it that Gary Fisher posted a link to not so long ago. Sorry to ruin the American dream of inventing the Mountain Bike....

I'm not sure where I got the 1940's thing from, I know I read it somewhere. Here is the video I was talking about, title says 1950 but a few of the comments in the youtube version seem to point to it being around 1959 or 1960. Still pretty early for mountain biking...
