Alright, neg prop me all you want but pb has picked wayyy to many editor's pics. Dont get me wrong but it's a great shot and all. Yet mind as well make another catogory for pod which is epod maybe?(editor's picture of the day)
  • + 8
maybe it's because they take amazing pictures! But I see what you mean!
  • + 70
xxslopestylerider9x - Perhaps you should count them and let us know what the ratio is before you go making silly comments? I'll save you the trouble as I actually know the number, we keep track of it. In the last 125 POD's exactly 7 have been from Pinkbike photographers. I'll even do the rest of the math for you, that's 5.6%, and that's less than 2 per month on average...

its a shit photo, so why argue about it?
  • - 3
silly comments eh? wow, there may be suck-ups that will always positive prop you, yet I just got 9 positive props for showing what my opinion is. I believe 5.6 percent is still a lot and all though you and the editors of pb have many great photos, they can still be viewed and faved yet they dont need to be pod. You and all the pb editors with great photos already recieve plently of spotlight with your photos being in the write-ups on the homepage so why even bother chosing editor's photos for pod?
  • + 3
exactly! i think they should give amature photgraphers a chance also, not just go on faves and likes ect, you should be able to send your photo in to be considered for PB pod
  • + 14
^Uhhh ya PB does give credit to amateurs... 94.4% of it. If you want credit then shoot some quality photos. RESPECT IS NOT GIVEN IT'S EARNED
  • - 15
flag SJTinsley (Jul 13, 2011 at 12:06) (Below Threshold)
 94.4% you say
now id like you to show me the workings out to as how you got that number Smile
and i dont take photos i ride, and i know respect has to be earned, but you dont have to be respected to get POD you could be the an absolute a*shole, but take a cracking picture. alot of these photos latley have not been pod worthy.
  • + 6
Give the amature photographers a chance? They very clearly are giving them a chance since the vast vast VAST majority of the photos are from them. And you can send your photos in for them to be considered POD.
  • - 3
 www.pinkbike.com/photo/6705565

that photo beats this one by far! so why on f*cking earth has this been put up for pod, theres alot more deserving photos out there to be put up
  • + 4
I, for one, just want to see amazing photos. From am or pro photographer, it doesn't matter. The shots that Ian picks are ALWAYS sick. Thanks Ian!
  • + 3
Well you see SJTinsley there are literally tens of thousands of photos that could be considered POD worthy. I don't know what your beef is. There's thousands of photos to sort though, they can't actually sit there and spend an entire day debating about which is best. They just find an interesting photo and throw it on up there. If you want to pay for a team of staff to spend all day sorting through photos to make sure the absolute bestest of the bestest of the bestest of the pictures on here makes it as POD every single day then go ahead more power to you mate. Then there is of course the issue of opinions, not everyone is going to agree that a POD is worthy while others will.
  • - 2
i agree with you there are thousands of photos, but to me, there are far more deserving pictures than this one today. but as you say thats just my opinion
  • - 3
xxslopestylerider9xx really cares about his positive props.... hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahah
  • + 23
SJTinsley and xxslopestylerider9x - Why don't you just quit the obnoxious bitching and whining, you sound like a couple of school kids.

9 props, wow! There are over 440,000 registered users on Pinkbike, if you're so good at math why don't you figure out what that percentage of the users that is. As for the workings on powderskiing's 94.4% it's called subtraction, we normally learn about that in grade 5 or 6, perhaps you missed those lessons? 100 - 5.6 = 94.4 If you're actually asking about where the 5.6 came from that's a different lesson, it's called division. And I'll admit I made a minor mistake on that one, I initially did it in my head. Of the last 120 POD's, 7 have been from photographers that receive pay from Pinkbike. 7/120 = .058 or 5.8% (not the 5.6 percent I originally quoted) As I have mentioned in the past we try to keep the Pinkbike Photographers photos to about 5% of the total, I guess we're off by about 0.6% so I can understand your frustration.

Tinsley as for your comment that people should be able to submit their photos for POD we've had that for a while now and we've talked about it a fair bit. There is a forum called "POD reccommendations" that I look at every day. Faves and likes really only play a small part in the selection, that simply creates the content for the Pinkbike Daily way down there at the bottom of the page.

If you really don't like the way that I run the POD why don't you go somewhere else? You might be happier and we wouldn't have to listen to you. You could even create your own website and pick your own POD every day. If that's too much trouble you could just stay here and pick your own personal POD every day, we let you do that....

Now if you'll excuse me I have other things to do besides just responding to your comments...

first of all, i am still a school kid.
and i asked powderskiing how he got that number because i never paid attention to your comment of 5.6%. hence why i asked where he got his percentage from. and you do a good job in keeping it to 7 paid photographers. the rest you just steal photos from and crop out the water marks, which is what you done to one of my friends pictures.

and ill apologise on the submission of pod photos as there is already a forum but obviously i was un-aware of that. maybe you should make it more clear to all the users on pinkbike?

and your a representative of pink bike and your telling me to go away, good rep you are for pinkbike.

and if you have better things to do than reply to my comment, why reply in the first place trying to act smart with all your math? eat a dick. you suck at choosing photos i hope you get replaced by someone very soon.

I am seeing the 'heat' coming towards me, but what the h....anyway.
@IanHylands. Judging by your age you should act in a more mature way towards people who appreciate pinkbike's work, no matter what their comments might be.
If I am not mistaken you are also an official member-associate of pinkbike thus I don't believe that this attitude of yours represents the quality, professionalism & ethos of their 'employees'. Unless they feel 'ok' when one of their team is addressing with that manner to their 'visitors'.
For an 'artist' & for a 43 years old guy you should be more relaxed. After all, these are the people to whom you are demonstrating your work.

ps. In case 'melikebikealot14' neglect to mention it: I am being a douche.

Kid doesn't let up. I like watching him cluelessly dig his grave."Oh, yeah? I'm still in school dick!" Oh, yeah? Maybe I didn't lurk the website more before posting!" "Oh, yeah? I don't pay attention to anyone's comments but I demand explanations to mine!" Oh, yeah? I'm a f*cking twerp on the internet".

I'm not taking any sides here...I just dont understand why Ian would want to get in a pissing fight with some kids. Let em say what they want. It's pointless to argue in a forum.

To everyone that has actually made an intelligent comment especially Mozarle, thanks! I am fairly relaxed, just tired of people making pathetic negative comments based on absolutely no real information. Especially when the information is there if someone were to take the 5 minutes to actually look for it. This is all in response to xxslopestyle9x's original comment that there are far too many PB staff photos on the site. If he had actually bothered to count them before he made that comment he probably wouldn't have made it. I pointed out the actual number, at which point Tinsley got all defensive and wanted to know where it came from, I explained. If my responses seem a slight bit sarcastic so be it, that's my attitude today towards people who shout off without thinking or looking for an answer themselves. If you have a legitimate question or complaint that you wish to ask in a polite manner by all means go ahead and I'll answer you back as promptly and politely as possible. I answer a lot of questions every day that I don't have to, and I do it pleasantly and happily. I just happen to take offense and respond sarcastically to some of the comments people make here...

Back to CG! Super Sick photo, as a racer midway thru my season, it's inspiring. CG has stepped up his game and always proves himself to the kiddies. 'it's going to bring me great pleasure in kicking all your asses on Sunday' Cedric Gracia Ft Bill World Cup 2011 quote of the season!
  • + 1
I would like to point out that xxslopestylerider9x's photo gallery is full of photo's he did not take. Don't tell someone to shut up if you yourself are trying to get the last work in. To be honest I made a comment that said something about a pod that was wrong... Ian proved me wrong... but I didn't go into an internet rage about it. I learned something new. You learned today how to subtract, divide, the definition of percentage, and the percentage of editor pod's on pinkbike. Now call it a day and relax. This photo is awesome by the way. I like how it has a ton of depth and yet CG is almost the only thing in focus. I know there are a lot of photos like this but I like it! haha
  • + 4
I think what some of the users commenting on this photo are trying to get at is the editors pick does create a bit of an imbalance in the selections of photos. I have personally noticed a select number of names repeatedly popping up recently in pods, with a couple names coming us as many as 3 times over the past month. Almost like a go-to selection of specific photographers when selecting the photo of the day. I just feel as though this kinda creates a barrier between the average photographer and say a pro photographer. Simply because it serves to promote a person who is already established as a successful photographer and limits the abilities in which an amateur user can use the website to the same benefit. Im not saying there is anything necessarily wrong with the photographs, their fantastic and are a really great demonstration towards the progression of the sport. And I am certainly not saying that its a clear cut trend either and I am not trying to point any fingers here, there are exceptions in which other users do get photo of the day.. More just something I have noticed and feel has not been put across in a (Somewhat) clear and concise manner.
  • + 3
I can completely understand what you're saying, and I agree with you. And while I try to avoid giving the same photographers POD more than once or even twice in a month it does happen. The most frequent cause is when different people pick POD they don't always know or look at what has been used recently and who the recent photographers are. But even with that aside I myself have picked photos from the same photographer more than once. The big issue is that there are some photographers on the site that produce a large number of amazing shots. I'm not speaking about photographers working for Pinkbike, but just other pros and also many excellent amateurs. This raises the level of the POD considerably, which makes it harder to run photos that aren't up to the same level. When I first started 6 or 7 months ago I had dozens to choose from, now I'll search for an hour or more sometimes, just trying to find a great new photo. If I can't I resort to my favorites gallery which is full of images that I tag on my daily adventures through the site. There are more and more days where I find it difficult to choose something new and interesting, so the shots will start becoming a little more diverse... So it has nothing to do with deliberately promoting anyone, it's just that the best photos that I see get chosen...
  • + 0
Ian you make sense of it all, but i think we can drop it now, it was a POD for everyone to enjoy so if one or 2 people start complaining, just ignore them, they most likely doesnt know what its like to have to pick one POD everyday with how many photos there actually are
