Hi Ian, pretty crisp results shooting at 1/1000 and ISO1000. What sort of wireless flash setup are you using? (if you don't mind me asking) I shoot with Canon and I am unfamiliar with the Nikon system capabilities. Is it your Camera body that allows you to sync at such a shutter speed?

It looks like the flash light was set up on the right side ( our left Wink ) of the rider. I might be wrong... I am learning all that stuff Wink Wondering if there was something more?
BTW nice spot for taking photos, Ian! I love everything about that picture and the one you posted with Rachel.

most bodies can't sync faster than 1/250 (even the EOS 1Ds Mark III) - simply due to how a camera's shutter works. your flash (for example speedlite 580 EX II) has a high speed function though, that fires a number of pulses instead of one burst - this enables you to shoot at 1/1000 with the flash, although this is limited to the flash being on the body. to remote trigger it, you need triggers such as pocket wizards that allows you to sync at that speed. cheaper triggers typically don't allow syncing faster than 1/250.

Looks like 2 speedlites, one on each side. Yeah I guess the cheap triggers is where I am limited, they work very well otherwise (especially for the price!) but obviously they have their limitations. Haven't been able to shell out for PW's yet, especially in the early stages of experimentation, but I guess they will need to go on the list. Thanks for the insight uberbecks...

Thanks! Exactly, 2 speedlights, one each side. Synced with the Pocket Wizard MiniTT1 and FlexTT5's for Nikon. I shot it for the trail winding through the frame, and also I really liked the moss hanging from the trees...
