 DO IT !!!!!
i have been thinking the same mate.you are so right ,we drive everywhere for a ride.
you need a big fake exhaust and a 50 cal machine gun on the front too,for safety of course hahahaha.

I am pretty sure you can get it working.
as for the "mancave"...im so jealouse of your cave...My one is so small hahahaha.

Yeah, but your man-cave lies at the bottom of a sweet trail.. cool how you roll straight in to your crib at the end of a ride.

yes it is cool mate how that works hahaha...we are turning the attatching carport into the Samjam Bike workshop very soon....cant wait.

 Buspilot great idea man!
If the mounting kit or build is solid this will work great.
I would love to try something like this.
I just finished watching the videos from Slackliners link and it looks unreal!

There is a lot to take into consideration to make this a solid build.
Through your own attempts and fails your success with gain new heights!
200W sounds great but might be a little week?
What would you use as an energy source?

All in all wonderful pondering mate!

thanks for the interest.. working on this project with a mate who has been running a pedal assist system based on 300W. Is an absolute blast to ride and because he has the power output on non drive-side can still be ridden like a normal bike.. unlike most other systems which interfere with the drivetrain.. dude in the ego kits vid may as well be riding a motor bike.. I guess our idea is to find a way to make the system quick release and non-invasive so that you can use it to commute further afield to the trail head with out the use of car.. then once your there quickly unclip the motor, stash in the woods.. session your trails in regular bike mode.. clip motor back on and cruise back home. Of course many engineering challenges to overcome to make it possible.. long term project!

 I agree mate!
This sounds awesome.
The idea of being able to clip it on or off is the difficulty.

As for the ego system there are 3 modes you can switch from.

1. A full motor mode. So, yes your on a very cool nimble motor bike.

2. An assist mode, meaning as you pedal the motor engages each stroke with a burst of assisting power.
My father in law had a bike like this and it was a weird yet cool experience.

3. A full off mode.
So your 100% on our own.
The actually said on their side they recommend when your jumping or dropping to turn the system off.

If you can accomplish this on the non drive side and get here at a power point that feels like its worthy, then Im stoke!!!

Wow, cool.. thanks for the extra info, sure is a wonderful new dimension to explore!

Do you want to build a gearbox bike?

Hey Slackliner.. just messing around with a 200W electric motor.. dreaming of a pedal assist system that be clipped on and off for commute to trail head.. seems crazy we drive our bicycles all over the countryside to get to nice places to ride.. would love to expand the horizons of what a bicycle is/does.. e-bikes are not everyones cup of tea but maybe we can start bridging the gap and broadening our horizons.

I think you should brother! Great thinking!

 Cheers marques.

Ego kits is cool but not easily removable also drive side attachment means it messes with the bicycles natural machinations.. non drive attachment would allow the system to be completely removable with out messing with the bikes gearing etc.

sounds like a gr8 idea.. how do u plan to strap all the motor and stuff on the frame? weight gain?
  • 1 0
good question menon.. sorting out a quick release mount system strong enough to handle torque forces from the motor is a major challenge to overcome.. and key to the whole concept being viable or not.
