Selected by Ian Hylands - Something about pipes... And riding one at night with a long enough exposure to blur the clouds produces a magical effect and the image has a really nice tone overall. I also like that this was done in the snow...
How can it be a long exposure if the rider is not blurred at all? I dont think the flash is that bright? could it be 2 photos, one of the clouds and one of the rider? Nice picture though however it was done
@aflo661 It's a basic concept once you figure it out. The long exposure creates the image of the clouds and the outside scene with a pipe that is black inside, the moonlight isn't shining into the pipe. Then a flash lights up the rider which effectively creates a very short exposure of the rider, inside the long exposure of the rest of the pic.
Yea, makes sense Ian. That's why you work at this and us wannabe photographers don't. So that does infact mean the rider was in pitch black until the flash went off... Epic photo IMO
@Gorman it doesn't really matter, @ScaryGerry exactly, although it doesn't need to be pitch black, just dark enough that the camera doesn't see any detail. And if you look at the side of the pipe away from the moonlight it's pretty dark.
Tyler set up a flash and would start a 30 second exposure and take the picture whenever we were ready, then we would be completely blind for the landing and trying to stop... cause it was in pitch black haha. Check his blog out, he's the man!! tylerroemer.blogspot.com
Judging by the position of the moon the inside of that pipe is probably pretty black. So without the flash there would be no light in it at all. What the means is that the long exposure has no effect at all on the rider in the pipe, just everything outside in the moonlight...
Good point. I assumed the lighting was from a permanent light- which would also make sense, since riding into a completely dark tunnel can be somewhat unnerving.
Sure, then will everyone please pay $50 a year to cover the costs of operating the site? I think given the choice between a few adverts and having to pay for things most of you would choose the adverts. If you don't like them don't look at them.
Yeah, it's not as though trek are so bad anyway. I mean, apart from having rubbish riders such as Aaron gwi
, or tracy mosely... Oh wait, no, they're insane!
It annoying because it's a link and everytime you accidentally click off the picture to scroll up or down the page you get taken to a website you have no interest in whatsoever.
And Ian $50 a year from every PB user sounds bit excessive for 2 adverts. If Trek really are spending that kind of money on it they need to re-think their marketing budget....
