i have done the same thing,but i have used my kids bike trailer that they used to sit in.i go collecting firewood with it.

seems like a cool idea maybe try and tie the 2 bars together though at the wheels to stop them spreading ?

cheers. they are spread intentionally. without it the thing bucked and rolled heaps and almost would throw you off the bike. spreading them lowers the center of gravity, makes it more stable and also applies a greater resistance to centripetal force when cornering so it doesnt side out and pull you with it.
