How do you get the edges of the photo (the border i guess) to look like that? Is it the way you took it or in photoshop?

this shot is out of an old mountain bike action magazine from 2007

the B&W rough edge/border is made by filing out the inside edges of your negative carrier before printing the photo. This was done that way, most of the ones you see now are added to digital photos in photoshop
