Thanks! The finest grit I used was 1200, wet paper or what ever you call it

Thanks, I hope the finish lasts. It has some car wax on it tho, which should protect the shine a bit.

you should clear coat it heavily

Meh, clear coat dulls the shine and it would look pretty rough after a few crashes. I think it'll be fine, but only time will tell. I read that one way to protect your polished stuff is to dip it into alcohol and let it dry, should create a protecting layer. Maybe worth a try
