Blurry photos used to be called bad, now they're called original and we have them as PODs... Also there is no scenery, there's just grass around a blurry rider, not very interesting to look at.
3 Favs and its POD :/ what is his reasoning in choosing this. Don't get me wrong it's a great photo and props to the photographer but I have seen plenty of POD worthy photos lately.
It's POD because it relates to the feeling we all get from riding so quick down a single track line. Is nobody feeling this? There's nothing special in the composition of the photo really in my opinion though.
Now i think you're taking it a bit too far there. No it's not interesting to look at, yes pinkbike made a bad choice for POD, but the guy still bothered to take the camera up there and take his picture. Now it may not be interesting or nice to look at at all, but it's still not garbage. I think most people dislike this picture but there's no reason for that language.
@bscar, you may think this photo is amazing, yet its your personal opinion, if you took some time to look at the first comment which stated how its not good enough to be pod and saw that it got 300 pinkbikers agreeing with that statement then your'e ignorant. A pod on pinkbike was practically created to give credit to good photographers and amazing shots, so yea a POD should have all that "Dazzle"
I like the blur. It really shows how the rider is ripping through this awesome, still landscape. Great photos don't always look the way everyone thinks great photos should look. I hate how everyone on here always wants the same cliched photos and movies. I don't always want to see pictures of guys ripping around berms or hear dumb monologues about how "mountain biking is my life" or some shit. In fact, I never want to see that stuff because I've seen it so much before. Props to the photographer for doing something different. /rant
^ For all you people up there arguing why this is a good choice for POD, we all know you're either a.) looking for hipster props or b.) simply being outliers. I have pictures just like this on my iPhone. It's definitely not POD worthy when there are so many other good pictures out there.
It is POD. Photo.Of. The. Day. It's only here for 24 hours. There will be a different one tomorrow, and a different one the day after that and so on. No need to get all up in arms over it.
'photo of the day' is and should be considered a privilege, so why should photos with quite frankly no photographic merit even be considered for such a privilege.
To say it has no photographic merit is a bit unfair. I'm sure the guy who took this photo didn't go out with the intention of this photo becoming a POD but more to experiment with his camera and have fun on his bike. I feel sorry for him being flamed with all these comments. It's not exactly original, in fact I first thought it was a screen grab from Life Cycles. It may be original for the photographer but I am sure most photographers have tried this style of shot at least once in their time behind the lens, I know I have. A poor POD yes but deserving of all the negative comments and hatred this photo is going to receive? Probably not.
so many photography experts here.
and such insightful critiques. very impressive.
a biker is uploading a picture from a different point of view then the thirds directive that seems to be the norm here on PB, and in the shutter speed produces something that borders on abstract art- which in doing so presents an anonymity in the rider that would allow anyone with an imagination to view this as a glimpse of themselves ripping along a trail, yet gets nothing but upset replies about the horrors of it appearing as the picture of the DAY.
variety, children. those given the task of choosing these PODS are looking for variety as much as anything else. not every picture for picture of the DAY needs to be some spazzy bicycle gymnastics dirt jump or some pajama wearing dh dude railing a corner- in thirds.
i like this photo. well done.
Today you have something different. I happen to really like this shot. It's a different angle, and a good blur, and it was probably shot from a fairly tall ladder, except that it's a self portrait so there was a lot more work involved. I like the colors, and I like the composition of it. But I understand if you don't like it, lots of haters today...
in photos, is not allways abouth the sharpnes and colours and an compositions... it is more abouth the purpose, what the photographer tried to show with his photo. I think this photo rules, and it is much bether than some previous pods.
lool SandersB are you kidding? Rider fast with Shutter Speed: 1/10 ? if the rider was so fast the shutter should be something more than 1/100... please.. POD? LOL!
actually no, 1/100th shutter speed with a wide angle like this would almost freeze him except for the edges. 1/10 is what gives it the really nice blur...
@Snusmumriken that's simply a difference of opinion. And judging by your favorite photos it looks like you have a really educated opinion so I'll just stay quiet on this topic. You win.
@IanHylands - why so ironic? I'm not faving photos becouse of their artistic values, it's not deviantart I took some photos myself and it's not only my opinion [see other 100+ comments here] this one is not good. It's difference of opinion - of course - but I really don't see anything cool in this blur. Photo is just blured, like the shutter speed was to low. If you want to judge me, check this one for example - lh3.googleusercontent.com/-gD60sMlFqEI/TpS7x6Er_aI/AAAAAAAAAzk/M1xqoRIJlSs/s1024/IMG_8760.JPG I did it, I find it way better.
One more thing - If I'm nobody to you try to put this image somewhere, when professionals will judge it. And see what they said...
No I've read the opinions, and my opinion is only that as well, my opinion. I just disagree as stated. Blur is and can be a very important part of a photo and of the composition, I happen to think that this one is well executed, although that's coming from the point of view of someone who has been a professional photographer for more than 20 years, and I look for different things in a photo than many people on Pinkbike. I don't think the shutter speed here was too low, I think it was actually fairly appropriate for the image. The photo you linked was nice, very similar to mine here
I think this is an awesome shot. The guy had to climb a tree, get his composition, go back down the tree then ride through the frame while the picture was taking (unless he had a remote shutter). The shutter speed works cause it shows just enough movement to still be able to see the rider and the colours are great. You people really need to start appreciating these kinds of shots more instead of just appreciating the gnarly trick shots. Also you have to think about how your comments might affect the photographer before you say them. Just because you're behind a computer and not saying things to someone's face doesn't mean you can just say whatever you want. This is an awesome shot that had a ton of time put into it. appreciate it.
Why are so many people going on about this being terrible but really photography is an art and nobody has the right to say it sucks or not. And most people are right its only up for the day, get over it.
I bet a lot of people will disagree, but this is a super ugly shot in my opinion. I mean the rest of the photo looks good, but the rider is just way too blurry and looks horrible in my honest opinion. Maybe I'm not artistic enough to enjoy the values of the photo...
worst POD in pinkbike history!
normally when someone comments a dislike on a POD everyone give it a negatice prop! now every dislike comments get positive props!
This is KENT and this is what the UK has to offer,
mud, mud, mud, mud, mud and then after a week of sun, stinging neetles !
As i live in KENT,i say top POD !!!
The thing I'm having trouble with about this photo is that I can only look at green grass and purple flowers for so long. The only other thing to look at is a blurry multi coloured blob on the right side.
Well done mate for an interesting pic. Maybe it wont go down in pb history as the worlds greatest pod but at least your out there taking great interest in the great sport we all love!
personally I think the pictures pretty good, the angle is actually pretty interesting and the colours are decent. The photographer was just trying to make it different by using a lower shutter speed to make the rider motion blurred.
