"Captain's Log, supplemental. We have no explanation for the mysterious disappearance of the telepathic alien. We can't even be certain that he was actually here. He seems to have left us with any number of unanswered questions."
Bribe them to come along for the day with cake.
I have a friend who was into Motorsport photography, I convinced him to come along and he loves shooting MTB now!
Take a look at the logo on his sleeve. About as sharp as you can get. Getting a rider to be 100% sharp in a pan is near impossible at dh speed and during a whip. Simply because no part if him isn't moving.
It's one thing if the riders body, head etc are static. Then I sharp pan is pretty easy. But with a whip the riders body parts, head, and bike are in constant motion, so even a perfect pan with have motion blur on rider. Ben's left arm is perfect, too bad the rest of him wasn't settled. But you guys are the pros so you would have nailed it anyway ;-)
Davetrump, I think you need to do a hop, skip, and a jump over to Utah and practice your panning more. I know a ton of riders that would be willing to be your subjects. (Your panning is perfect and I hope you get my sarcasm)
