this is just stupid. yeah assists you going up hill, but the used a bad bike for that. DH bikes are all about point and shoot DOWNHILL not to go XC in them. haters are going to hate but "E-Bikes" do not belong in the Down hill, freeride, trail or XC categories. The E-bike category belong in the bikes which the general public who use them. like i said haters are going to hate but that's my opinion

Doing that to a bike that nice is just wrong... I have that same bike. (minus the motor of course) It's almost disrespectful to the sport to put a freakin' motor on a MAN-POWERED bicycle. I saw some guy in Whistler with a motor operated DH bike.... I gagged....

they just ruined a perfectly good V-10

@Mattdawg. There is no doubt that they ruined that bike. Such a shame that they thought such an incredible bike needs a motor. You don't need a motor to have fun.

Doesn't mean MotoX isn't fun though Wink

I was surprised at how receptive the Interbike crowd was of these guys. They ripped all around the show on their e powered bikes popping wheelies and stuff. Out on the street infront of the convention center one of the dudes spilled in the street while trying to ride a wheelie across the crosswalk. it was HILARIOUS, totally trolled himself.

I think retail on these is gonna put them more expensive then a Vespa or small motorcycle...so as much as it would be fun to test: NO THANKS!

Don't knock it until you try it. Funny how some people just can't stand change, funny because I always thought it was only old people, lol. I've tried it and it blew me away. The weight is less noticeable (25lbs total with battery I think) and the battery goes on for hours if you pedal as well. Yes, you can pedal as much as you want - this just extends how much time you get to cruise downhill in any given session. Think of it as a new class of out-door recreation - somewhere between dirt-biking and all-mountain biking.

 agreed, just hope it's affordable....

in a place where only long hikes get you a 3 minute lap, I could see this being handy, but only if you could send it down the hill with somebody else haha. who wants to downhill with that strapped to the bike?

They weigh a ton and you have to wear the battery pack on your back, I had a look at them in whistler maybe in the future when they weight 80% less it would be great when you don't have lifts or can't shuttle

would love to see this in action

What a waste! Santa Cruz people work tirelessly to create a super-light all-carbon DH bike, and then some german twists show up and turn it into this electric Frankenstein. A couple of thoughts:
A) Now it's a motorized vehicle. Motorized vehicles can't access a lot of fantastic trails. Good job.
B) The usable reach will be sh*t. A few kilometers up some steeper climb and it'll be done. Attaboy. Unless you carry extra batteries, and who the hell wants to do that.
C) When the batteries die, you'll be left with a perfect bike turned into 20+ kg of uselessness, with all that nonsense that's strapped to it. It'll handle like bikes used to 10 years ago. Some progress.

Verdict: Kill it with fire. Too lazy to pedal? Buy a motorbike.

Afterthought: perhaps they should install one of those on their legs and turn it on every time they have to walk up a flight of stairs. Or maybe down a flight of stairs. I'd die laughing Smile

If I ever catch someone with one of these motors on their bikes riding one of my trails, they're dead.

I agree. It seems like you wouldn't be able to use them in the state/national forests anyways as the trails are closed to motorized vehicles, there is no differentiating between a bike with a motor (such as this) and a motorcycle in my eyes. If you're too much of a pussy to pedal your bike, stay at home or go ride a park with a lift. Such a waste of a v10

Awesome, Im assuming they must be busy with the show because I mailed them with no response yet?

What kind of bike do you have it on?

I love how the system sounds and would be great for us here in Japan to be able to cover more terrain while searching for new trails!
