...and this is why I love mountain biking. I rarely remember my dreams, but shots like this pretty much sum up about 95% of the ones I do remember. Simply epic.

Any chance we can get a higher res to use as desktop background? Awesome shot!

My friend climbed that peak in the background just couple months ago and when I asked him how it is like on the top, he said it's nothing special. Just a snowy space large enough to fit a soccer playground and clouds everywhere around. So I guess it is better to ride a bicycle like it is shown above.

 Which route did he climb?

I don't know exactly. I worked in a design studio and he was just in my team. I asked where he had gone for a holiday week in November (?) and he answered that he'd booked a trip in a "climbing" agency in Chamonix, probably via internet and that he had got a list of gear to buy, description of shape he should be in, and price including insurance. So it was probably the easiest possible route for adventurous tourists under a mountain guide supervision. Guides usually don't wanna too much trouble with inexperienced hikers. He just wanted to check the climb in his list of things to be done in life, or his ten years younger girlfriend's list. Who knows? When he returned, he was very tired and slightly satisfied, so I did not asked about the girl's mood. The price is not even so high, but buying the gear is expensive (he related) like hard shoes, goretex jackets, the metal hook to hold and those to walk on. It all has to be quality, becasue it is Mt. White and it's high. Anyway highest European peak's become a tourist attraction, so it's over with being a pioneer. Serious climbing nowadays consists in tough paths which they value like e.g. 5.11A or similar and these are shorter climbs of other sort. You can type it on youtube, to check it out. Dan Osman was amazing, so it is worth to watch his videos too.

@woodyc If you immagine a guy, who does not climb for his passion, but for other hard to understand reasons, you could see a normal fellow exhausted to his limits, standing in a white small field of icy snow, with wind blowing and clouds around him like a dense fog, to cover all views, you could probably see it otherwise. In the past people started with climbing small hills at first and then some higher ones. This way they could get addicted to the feelling known only to climbers standing on the top. At present times people pay to be guided to some really high mountain for the first climb in life and I cannot find any polite words to support this.

Fair point. I just cannot understand how it could be described as "nothing special". If it was cloudy then surely you can't really have an opinion.
I've skied for getting on 20 years and the views from the top of a mountain are stunning, Mount Blanc is surly better.

Well I asked him for his opinion, so this way I forced him to tell me one. I respect him for telling what he trully felt, not a lie to make everyone jealous about. If it was windy, cold, and cloudy. He hadn't climbed before for his passion, I can understand his opinion. I snowboarded nearby Mt. White, in three valleys (it was around 3500m) and I agree it is a beautiful mountain, but it was sunny when I watched it. Weather can change dynamicly at such an altitude, so while you sunbath on snow, be prepared for a ice storm of armageddon coming up in five minutes. If you climb for your passion, it does not matter what is the weather like on the top, the very struggle to get there makes you happy, but if you just go there to check a box in your "weird" list of things to do in life, you can simply return disappointed, with a list of items to get rid of on ebay. I see this story of a pretty young girl running to you and screaming "lets do something crazy, something special".. and they did indeed.

Fair enough, you just made it sound like: "it's whatever". I know nothing about climbing, but I guess I can have a microscopic appreciation and respect to the beauty of a mountain...

Good words from Brule, as a matter of (an interesting) fact, the difference in elevation between Chamonix and the summit of Mont Blanc is bigger than of Everest Base Camp and the summit of Everest.
