So, tell me about that steering damper

Its a pretty nice toy to have no there. Its one of those things you put on and dont think about, but as soon as you take it off, you notice its not there. I did a DH endurance race last year and I feel like it was a savior to my arms at the end of the run. Its totally free to return to center, and you cant feel it all during normal riding, but at speed and in the rocks, it will dampen a sudden movement or jolt from throwing you off track, it basically "engages" when it sense a turning motion of the bars at a speed that a human is not capable of producing, so it holds your line and makes your suspension work instead of tossing you.

This is a tempting investment, does anyone give you shit for it?

I've ran one for the past 3 years, most people are interested in them, and quite a few people run them here on the east. Never got any crap for running one....not sure why or who would give someone crap for running one. They are huge in the moto industry, I run a Scott's on my Ktm and an ohlins on my street bike

Crap...because oscillations produced in DH bikes don't come close to the severity of a sport bike going 300km/h.

If you believe a DH damper is built for high speed oscillation then I understand how you can think it is crap, but that is not the function or purpose of it. You obviously do not know how it works, and if you would like informed so you understand its purpose, I would be happy to educate you so you don't start commenting "crap" about products you do not understand. The valving is much different than the Ohlins damper on my Aprilia sportbike damper that you claim is designed for high speed oscillation (dampers on our sport bikes design for more than that btw) compared to this which is design to absorb a sudden blow that could throw your wheel off course or cause an OTB situation if the rider were being lazy or fatigued.

I used to own a Hopey on my old Cove Shocker. The thing was amazing! I could plow through anything and it'd hold any line without jolting or getting unstable. I miss it sometimes when things get rough

been really wanting to try a hopey, also been working on a proto of my own steering damper.

Awesome, let me know how it is working for you, there are a crew of us that have been working with Tim Hopey on different valving setups, and I think we have valving that will really work for almost everyones needs. A very small change in the shim stack goes a long way on these things, so we can really tune them to the needs/wants of the rider.

I have been keeping my eye out for a deal on a used hopey but not many people are selling them! how do feel about one for a trail/all mountain bike?
