This wins the week's award for best improvisation. This is such a simple, yet effective way of making your own chainguide. It was being run with a triple rings setup and an old-school mech, yet it seemed to do the job on the rough terrain here.

an article on mad-max/homegrown components like this would be pretty cool though

Hose clamp over shifter cable? There are many more reasons that this setup will not last. Its clever, but I doubt its durable.

I don't know if you notice, but the "U" thing don't afect the cable because it has a recess....so its ok about this.

This is quite a complex construction - I'm running a much simpler design built out of two zipties and a 4-5cm garden hose since years... Costs less than 3€, easy to replace an renew. Lightweight. Simple. Perfect function. In use on a DH and on a AM/Enduro Rig.

I bet it works better than many stuff in the market...in Brazil they call this kind of self engineering "gambiarra".

Yup, they won an award for innovation at Eurobike. Works great too!

Not that they deserve an award for it... The same thing was kicking about in the 90's. I had an anodized blue one! The only differences are improvements to the mount, and doing away with a roller. magazine.bikeradar.com/files/2011/03/photo12.jpg
