AHAH ^ no, roadies are like soccer players... www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQojgdfUAe0 he'd sit there till the ambulance came to put a bandaid over his pin sized scratch.
It's just pinkbike posting the token road bike. Recently, pinkbike and the pinkbike community have been accused of soliciting and sponsoring mountain bikes and discriminating against road bikes.
So it's important to give a diversity of bikes equal attention.
when yt bike is tested, other bike manufacturers will go bankrupt, so is pb.
so it's time pb did an opening with road biking.
ohhhh, it's so thrilling and satisfying when the pieces of the puzzle are put together!!!
hahahahaha
I dont think the people saying that roadies are pussies have ever crashed a road bike at race pace. Or heard about the tour de france riders finishing with broken shoulders/hips etc.
we are smarter ,. we wear armor.. last year a guy died hitting a rock wall, in a decent.. i could not care less. (it even started a fight at work/lunch break with my co workers (fat f*cks) wishing me to die on a mountain.) seeing UCI is fukking up road racing pretty bad i heard with all sorts of rules and BS..
strange how little they care for your safety.. if you werent a retarded roadie .. it would make you think...
Haahaaaa nice one. Keep your feet on the pedals unless your terrified of a turn. I see alot of people lifting feet and doing the dog leg turns where you could just rip right thru it pedalling. Work on those turns.
You can tell who has never ridden a road bike before...
Screw that crap, it's way too scary. Getting up to 40-50mph on a road where one badly placed pebble or crack could send you to the ER or death, that's if a distracted driver doesn't kill you first, yeah, no thanks.
I knew a few people who have died while road riding, or had a very close call. I can't say the same for MTBing where falling rarely means you're guaranteed to break a bone.
The moment I saw this POD, i said to myself, lets click on the photo and see these victorious comments hating on road bikers and the fact that this thing actually got POD
Riding a road bike is not scary. It is just boring, much like this picture. And yes, before I came to the age of reason, I had logged thousands of miles on a road bike...time I will never get back.
There are a lot of insecure mountain bikers on this website. A roadie lookin like he can shred and everyone claims it was shopped. I did a little research on Popo, the rider, and found this: goo.gl/MRJrVx (same photographer too!). This doesnt prove that it was'nt shopped but it does show that the rider really is a shredder at heart. You know this guy was thinking about his downhill bike when he took this corner... probably paid the price too.
Did anyone watch the third last stage of the Tour De France? Im no where close to being a roadie considering I have a 210mm fork and 2.5 in tires but those guys are nuts, riding downhill stages at high speeds on those little tire. I say f*ck that, you wouldnt catch me anywhere near there. Its a cool pic and if you cant appreciate it your just ignorant!
Dudes... That is Popo, a National rider for Downhill in INDONESIA, this is probably his cross training! teaching the rodies how to corner! FOOT OUT!! DH style!
Popo can shred!! probably much faster than the guys bitchin his pic! lol
dude my front tire is 12 times bigger than his. (haha) 2.7 b!#ch
also see the angle his front tire is at if that were real(its not) than he would go strait into the brush i know its a turn but i don't think turns on paved roads are legally allowed to be that sharp therefor hes f*@ked
Love all the pussies shit talking road biking who wouldn't even have the balls to rail a corner half this hard on the asphalt... It's so cute how you guys think it makes you tougher that you ride on dirt which is exponentially softer than asphalt, alone in nature safely removed from cars and idiot drivers. If you ask me, the only thing "pussy" about road bikes is how many mountain bikers are too chicken shit to get down on one.
Is that an "intense" face where you come from??? LMAO!
Go "pose" by leaning over onto the edge of a carbon soled shoe and tell me how well that works out for you... Hate to bring reality into your hate-fest but that "pose" isn't possible to hold unless he's actually cornering. He may be going far slower than what he's trying to convey but he's damn sure not stationary. And, setting all that aside, the particular picture being a pose or not isn't relevant to the general "road bikes are gay" "roadies are pussies" mentality that gets pushed on Pinkbike. So... I stand by my comments. I have yet to encounter one super tough awesome downhiller who says roadies are pussies who actually has the balls to hold my wheel down a mountain descent at 60+mph.
well be aware for the neg props coming.. and Leroy .. road bikers are pussies.. all i see is neg props.. and only you alone stating a comment as a road biker.. that it isnt .. this is a never ending discussion like friggin religion.. but please note the spandex isnt helping you.. de tour isnt helping you. de EPO scandal including one balled lance.... and your f*cking behaviour on the roads (in holland where i can speak for) i allready run one of you off the road some time ago.... will not hesitate to do it again
"i allready run one of you off the road some time ago.... will not hesitate to do it again" I myself am 100% for MTB but "cyberhawk", you are a scumbag giving the MTB community a bad name with comments like that.
And that's why I said what I said, because going at speed on the road is not really impressive, at all, in the slightest. I was just saying it can be done on dirt so there goes the only thing they can try to grasp on to. I'm tired of roadies and their attitudes, all the ones I have come across have just been elitist pricks that don't deserve to be on a bicycle cause they take it too serious and don't know how to have fun on one. Cars go really fast on pavement as well, cars suck and at least a pebble isn't our worst enemy. Yuppie snobs.......the lot of them, hahaa.
You guys are hilarious... just because you don't ride road, it must suck. Just because you're not comfortable in spandex it must mean those who are are pussies... What the f*ck are you lot, like 12? Grow the f*ck up. I've spent years now riding both, they're equally difficult and equally enjoyable. Not one of you bitches going on about how pussy roadies are could actually do it... listen to you "oh a pebble is your worst enemy"... I don't know what you're on about but my road bike has seen plenty of gravel and pebble filled dirt roads... and at speeds that you girls wouldn't touch with your fear of pebbles. Let alone one of you pansies having the balls or the bike handling skills to launch an all out sprint shoulder to shoulder with other riders... or follow a rider through a set of corners two inches off his wheel at 30mph before launching said sprint. You don't understand it, you couldn't do it... and the fact that it involves tight clothes insults your questionable manhood and that's really all it comes down to. You find ANY real cyclist, from Gwin to the Athertons all on around, and they all train road too... but I'm sure they're just pussies and elitists right?
As for your 63mph on dirt... you're still apparently too chicken shit to do it on asphalt because you're worried about "pebbles". Man up and put away the 2.5" tires and see what you're made of without suspension, without the body armor, without the soft dirt, without bushes to land in, on a tire 1/3rd that size.
@ Cyberhawk... you're the worst kind of chicken shit there is. You want to call roadies pussies but then we have to deal with piece of shit doucehbags like you who think they own the road.... But somehow Lance & EPO are an issue while your jackass road rage isn't? You're a coward and a straight running bitch.
and here you go Leroy.. internet warned you. > never go full retard.." well you just did.. you think you are so f*cking awesome cause we dont ride road (assumptions are the mother of all f*ck ups you know ) i did for a short time,. and it sucks..(i was young didnt know any better) the only thing making it exiting is creating danger. as you mentioned in some examples in your comment.. to make things clear .. you are the douche bags who think they own the road.. a bunch of fat f*cks and skinny twats.. who think they are riding the tour du gay in the weekends... riding 4 sometimes 6 peeps wide.. on a 1 or 2 way road.. AND on the tarmac.. cause the bike path is glued with gravel.. and thats annoying to ride on bla bla bla bitch bitch bitch.. (an actual dutch roadie quote)
the bitch i ran off the road,, was trying to pass me dangerously (to make it exiting) on a one way road., i swooped left and ran his 16lbs bike of the road with my 32lbs FR bike.. he was pretty scared of the gras and pebbles then ! if i would let him pass me he would have hit pedestrians who were enjoying a summer walk.. baby carriage and all.. coming our way..
its your road rage i act against ! so stick a sock in it. and remove your saddle next time when going for a ride..
You gotta stop assuming shit LLBL, I have gone over 65 on a road bike with your stupid skinny tires, in 501's and no shirt cause picking cotton out of skin with tweezers ain't a good time. I think I was 14 or 15 and we have some steep roads around here. I have ridden road bikes often but they are boring as fuuuuuuuu so I end up breaking them trying to get the full experience I want out of a bike. Anyway dude, you talk a lot, you always seem so stressed out. Have a Snickers, stay calm and enjoy life. Stop taking shit so serious and maybe you'll live long enough to see them have to go to the 38th place finisher in the Tour De France before they can claim the winner that didn't dope. And "soft dirt, without bushes to land in"-this is seriously one of the stupidest things I have ever read, hahaa, what a joke........you're a joke dude.
road = hard work. very rewarding too. try it in the off season and see your mtb ability grow too. also @cyberhawk please stop being a dick, you make us all look bad. who ever heard of dutch downhill anyway
@Cyberhawk... you can barely type a coherent paragraph and think it's running people off the road is cool but you wanna talk about others going full retard... LMFAO. Apparently you were born full retard kid. Bring your ass on out to SoCal and I'll show you actual roadies get down instead of this families on rides you think it's ok to terrrorize.
@Draggon - Not assuming anything. You're the one carrying on about your fear of pebbles... "your worst enemy" I believe you called them. So... 65mph when you were 14 huh? LMFAO... I suppose that's like doing a 60 foot "pinkbike" double then? The difference between you and me is I have actual GPS data to support my claims of speed... while you have big claims but carry on like a school girl about how dangerous pebbles are and how much cotton hurts and blah blah... Hike up your skirt, grab hold of your balls, and act like a man or just shut the f*ck up and admit you're a pussy. I'm not stressed... I'm not taking anything too seriously... I'm just calling you a pussy because your statements have shown you to be one. If you're not scared of pebbles than your logic is flawed... if you're not scared to ride road than your whole shirtless comment is pointless. I don't know if you just generally suck on a bike or if your road bike handling skills are particularly bad but for all this danger that you seem to see all around you, for those of us who actually know how to ride bikes it's not all that difficult.
As for the Tour... Not sure how that's even relevant. Were you previously unaware that professional athletes dope? Not sure how your naivety and have any bearing on the sport of cycling or road in particular but whatever... I guess when you have no facts or actual information to support your argument you tend to reach for shit like that. But I'm the joke... lol, sure we'll go with that tough guy.
...and yes, the soft dirt and bushes. If you weren't flatly stupid, you might have noticed a thing or two about the differences in the hardness of dirt vs asphalt. There is no 'soft spot' to look for. The stakes are higher on the road; the margin for error is slimmer and the penalty for failure is higher... just admit you're soft and scared of the high stakes.
Dude you have some issues man, you twist things and just start throwing out insults at the drop of a hat, you seriously need a change in attitude. I have seen you all over PB getting into arguments with many people over anything and everything, the only common factor is you. Stop, just stop Leroy. You're a waste of space and a waste of my time so I'm done........knowing you'll get the last word in I'm sure of that, hahaa. I feel sorry for you man........
yeah boy.. i give up on you too.. this argument is surely a waste of time with you pulling things out of context , making shit up.. and not even reading comments correctly.. and if you are.. than you are doing this shit on purpose..
i thought you were a kid.. but you are a year older than me.. it just shows again.... you are not helping the pro murica statistics..
@Cyberhawk & Draggon - You two idiots are the best kind of cowards... you sit back and think it's cool for you to call roadies bitches and pussies because they ride road but then you cry foul like a couple of schoolgirls as soon as someone calls you out in turn. Has nothing to do with America and nothing to do with the Tour... it's strictly limited to you being a couple of chumps who take issue with people who do shit that you apparently are too afraid to do... either because you're scared of pebbles or spandex or whatever your issue is but the reality is that sitting here shit talking cyclists because of the genre of riding they choose immediately makes you both bigger pussies than any amount of spandex or EPO ever could so cheers... carry on with that.
you know what dude.. i live surrounded by levy's.. i'll just waste an hour of my life filming you f*ggots.. and how you act here in holland.. i even might take some crossroad footage for ya.. and i truly believe not only the dutch roadies act like dicks.. and if you READ .. all the LETTERS.. you would have noticed we said MOST .. thats not ALL .. but you are so narrow minded and trapped in your own world.. its futile..
Alright so by that logic BMX/24" and trials are not meant for this website. A bikes a bike. Also if it was only a mountain bike website, why is there a whole section in the BuySell for road bikes? I'm just an average teenager who usually hates on roadies, but let's be honest. Pinkbike is a biking website which is meant for all bikers to use.
Well said, and i really have no problem with road bikers, but I would rather see someone on a mountain bike doing something gnarly and working to get a shot and get POD. Rather than a guy just hold a pose for a few seconds.
@Adamlaycock, there is also a section in the buy/sell for cars, motorbikes/atvs, and even paintball and ipods. Also, when you are on the homepage, it says 'mountain bike news, videos, pictures and events'. End of rant haha
Yep, every poll, every product review, the race coverage it's all mountain biking all the time. Pinkbike brags about being the most visited mountain biking website. We may acknowledge our strange road riding bretheren, but this is not a place for them.
wow you must have an awesome camera to capture those rims so in focus, what a stupid photo, ill tell you what will happen next he will stand up put his bike back in his audi and drive home. Cant believe this was even entered into the contest
I'll tell you what would have been a good POD. A shot of Tyler Maine's face when he stumbled across this picture and thought "I know this is wrong, but I'm going to do it anyway". I take my hat off to you Mr Maine, the hook was dangled and you got plenty of bites!
Come on guys! We've had BMX PODs too... BMXs aren't mountainbikes either. I respect road bikers too, even thought I don't ride one, but still. It's pretty damn scary to fall if ya ask me! This is mountainbiking website and one POD isn't going to change that fact. So calm down. Peace.
No cleats on shoes Foot clearly resting on ground Odd angle for body considering the angle of the bike.
But, the clincher that shows it's a posed shot, is the tires. If a rider were to take a corner hard enough to obtain that angle, on a road bike with 23c tires, there would be a great deal of deflection (even at 120psi) and the contact patch would be completely different. Instead there is zero deflection........ That's what sealed the deal for me with regards to it being posed. Then there's the zero motion blur....
I think there would be more counter-steer as well, rather than the wheel pointed in.
Moot point. This whole discussion is ridiculous. Maybe its Canadian April Fool's Day or something.
I agree that the pic may not sound like much.. But the rider is.. FYI.. This is Popo Ario Sejati, Reigning Asia Champion, Sea Games Gold Medalist, and even beat Sam Hill and Troy B once @Asia Pacific DH Challenge.. one of the best bike handler in Asia..
I somehow think he was just standing still here, or he's putting a foot out to crash, if there was a rider out there who could ride that out at high speed then we'd hear about him (nibali and sagan probs could)
Over the course of 10 years we will see approximately 3650 PODs. I think we can stand to endure a little diversity, and learn something about other disciplines and perspectives. I don't hate on PB for posting something completely different. This is a photo of an incredibly talented rider who is apparently able to keep his eyes from tearing up at high speed. I'd love to learn that trick.
Ok....at that lean angle, his front wheel would not be turned in that hard unless his front wheel was drifting wide(its not), or he was doing about three miles an hour. This photo is staged. defo
For all those roadies saying road riding is bigger scarier harder than DH. Have you EVER ridden a DH bike? Seriously. I ride both. You are just wrong. I hit 40+mph every single day on my road bike. On typical UK potholed bumpy ass roads. It gets a teensy bit sketchy very occasionally. The same feeling I get at least 10 times per ride on my DH bike. Every time I rattle my DH bike through a chute, or trees barely wider than my bars at 30mph. Then theres the corners, jumps, drops, roots, rocks, rapidly changing surface conditions...I could go on forever. I love my road bike to bits, but when I want to scare myself, I get the DH bike out. There really is no contest.
This mentallity shown in this discussion is just whats wrong with the world!!! If anyone or anything is different or behaves or enjoyes something else..... Then lets hate him/them!! Thats just plain stupid!! Grow the f*ck up!!!
All this banter about which is better is ridiculous. Mountain biking is about jumping, tricks, and just riding gnarly terrain, road bikes ride on pavement, the only thing its good for is training. Which is better as far as the fun factor is clearly obvious.
Is there a sequence, as this looks beyond fake. Besides it's not 1st April and this is a MTB website! The photographer takes some epic shots, so not sure how this one ended up POD....
..... reading the title 'what will happen next?' .... I'm kinda hoping the photographer has the same rider doing an epic huck to flat sequence photo lined up (either on the roadie or mtb).
If you look closely you will also notice he does not have cleats on his shoes, and his foot is resting on the underside of the outside pedal, as it is upside down.
The photographer and the cyclist forgot to read "Code of conduct for cyclists" before taking the picture. Maybe Pink Bike could have a competition with this photo: Find five errors. :o)
Well, at least you riled up the masses pretty effectively - look at all the comments!!!
BTW this POD is really not what we expect from PB. Better luck next time.
The insecurity is so thick here that I can taste it. Don't worry stunt monkeys, The next POD will surely be some kid with menial bike handling skills jumping a dirtbike that someone took the engine out of.
Shitier picture I have ever seen in my life! Not because is a road bike. The shot is patetic. A road rider doing a Sam Hill move... o my god. PB definitly ate shit on that one hahahaha. What will be next POD?
Wow, you're all a bunch of immature twats.
Taking a corner at that speed and getting that low is worthy of pod, appreciate other parts of the sport or fuck off.
Yes I agree... people who don't like all types of biking should leave and make a dedicated 26er site so that we... I mean the other mature people who like other types of riding can coexist nicely.
Please don't let this trend continue, I look at pb daily for badass footage. It used to be in confidence that I would never see a roadie on here, it's bad enough I have to see these guys ride around town. I don't want to see them here on pb.
He is NOT!!! he is Popo, the National Downhill rider of Indoensia.. i met him before.. that guy is crazy as F@ck! i think he is messing that road bike!!
K tbh I saw this and I'm like wtf I was going to comment saying how stupid the photo is but then I though I'd get neg prob for dissing it because I thought I was the only person that thought that but I'm glad everyone else agrees there's so many great photos of people on downhill bikes that have not been Pod yet I just don't see any reason this got Pod
Hahaha, thx pinkbike & all ur comments. He crashed after. Bike came straight towards me. That was a split second decision wheather i had to capture or jumped...so i chose to jump
