The Mavic Cosmic Expert (c1998) was one of the early aero designs sporting a 30mm depth. Sadly the front is the only rideable wheel from the original build.

The new QM carbon is built with an extreme amount of carbon fibres, ensuring perfect handling and maximum safety. Even at a 375 grams the Boreas QM fork does not compromise safety or performance.

The "well-loved" Shimano Dura-Ace 9-spd brifters are part of the bike's original build. The scratches around the flight deck might not be pretty, but definitely add character!

Check out that downtube!!! I didn't measure (yet) but the blend of Aluminum with titanium and zinc make for a supremely stiff, "racey" ride.

Boreas has chosen to use rear-facing dropouts. This provides much more advantages in spite of a little more difficulty mounting the wheel. The stay becomes shorter because you do not have the clearance and thus a stiffer rear, greater torsional stiffness and greater safety when the wheel is held by both chain tensioning and QR. (I apologize for the translation!)

    2005 Boreas Ignis C

Boreas has eliminated the temperature dependent factors which normally create problems in carbon/aluminium joints. Coefficients of thermal expansion differ between the two materials. Normally creating a risk of the joint losing its strength and durability. This problem has been solved by developing a new bonding technique for the carbon seat stays using bonding agents pioneered in the wind turbine industry. The newly developed Comfort Optimised Modular Fibre (COMF) carbon seat stays, Boreas Ignis Carbon offers extreme stiffness and excellent comfort.

    2005 Boreas Ignis C

The name Boreas is the Greek word for "north wind" and was chosen to symbolize the combination of Nordic design with great exertion. The Ignis (meaning Fire) frame is the new Oxide finish where the raw aluminum frame is covered with a fairly thick layer of aluminum oxide, which in addition to providing a very nice matt and durable structured surface is also considerably more resistant to knocks and scratches than a similar lacquered frame. Seen is the short, fat, headtube and Dura-Ace caliper. Note the drillouts for cabling through the head tube!

    2005 Boreas Ignis C

The 2005 Ignis C was available in many configs, the one I purchased used for $450 came with full Dura-Ace 9-spd gruppo (!!!) Sadly, this company is no longer producing and according to Internet rumour, it might have been due in part to the high cost of the oversided Al/Ti/Zi tubing.

    2005 Boreas Ignis C

Although no longer being made, the unique tubing and Danish manufacture make this machine a rideable piece of elegant history. Shipped with a 9-spd DA gruppo and Mavic Cosmic Expert wheels, I had to trash the rear due to over-tensioning causing a cracked and bent rim! I replaced the Titanium 53T front with a 50T FSA (I'm middle-aged with COPD!) and used my Deda stem on the OEM Cinelli alloy bars. Yes, that's a set of SpeedPlay Zero pedals!
