2020 was a hard year to get out and find incredible spots to ride but somehow we squeezed at least a few tiny trips into it. On one journey we managed to find this incredible structure from the early 80s. It had a really tricky and bumpy run-up that I had to figure out first. As soon as I got to the top of the over vert structure I realized those outward-facing sharp metal pieces would be another thing that had to be managed while going higher on the structure. On some tries, my back wheel would barely clear them by just a few inches.

Loading Dock
Erik Hölperl
I found this spot on a recent roadtrip by accident. A huge loading Dock that seemed to be abandoned for quite some years. Broken glass, old pictures and a lot of rust created quite an interesting contrast to the still bright blue and yellow Colors of the railings. This quite unusual setup and the stormy clouds in the background inspired me to get something good here. The trick itself was quite a challenge on this nearly vertical Dock and it took me at least 15 tries to get the timing just right as I had imagined it in the beginning. in another world
Erik Hölperl
A true once in a lifetime spot that seemed to be straight from another world. Once a place where people would meet, now a deserted landmark in the middle of now where. Before riding it I had to clean up a lot of trash that former campers had left behind. The carves I took inside this marble fullpipe might be the the most memorable I ever took. The vertical version of this shot also happened to be my first magazine cover as a rider on a major mtb magazine. And it might be the first proper self portrait on an action sport magazine, ever.

on top of your house
Erik Hölperl
I saw a picture of this building in 2012 and in my head I instantly saw a rider on top of it . It took me a good three years to track down its location and another two years to finally make the trip. The quarter itself was a true challenge, like they always are when they look too good to be true. A kinked bumpy run in, a concrete block on top of the quarter with a lightning rod made it even trickier to ride. But here we are, another fantasy made into reality. selfportrait.

Self-portrait in the middle of nowhere / eastern europe. I found this statue five years earlier online in a blog and tried to locate it for years. In 2017 I managed to track it down, the stars aligned and I managed a visit. When I arrived I noticed that it was triple the size that I expected it to be. The drop that seemed to be 3meters was now 9 meters at the highest point. The run in was a 20cm thin track with no room for error. A heavy storm was pushing me towards the drop as well. I was questioning if I should give this a try. In a long time, I was actually afraid. But then I saw a small gap in the clouds coming towards me, the sun pushing through. I knew this was my only chance to get the photo I dreamed about for so long. Once the Gap had arrived I had 2 Minutes to shoot my photo before the light was gone. I gave it three tries, before the light vanished and only the storm remained. This one is the best shot. printed in my 16-page interview in Mountainbikerider magazine 12/17

Self portrait from my series "Muethers heritage" discovering the remains of famous gdr architect Ulrich Müther. This one was rather scary since only the sceleton of the building was still standing and one wrong move would have been fatal.

last time I made it to this spot, it was full of water. So happy that I have been able to give this spot a solid try. It was quite a challenge to get some air on this building. starting with the run in, to the kinky vert transition. (self portrait)

This photo was shot on my succsessfull journey to meet my idol and bmx legend Ruben Alcantara. On a tour around town we stopped by the famous malaga tunnel. I think it is one of the first photos with that spot in wet condition. The reflections on the wall and on the floor tell you a lot how much grip was left....... none. Took some quality two tire slides before I managed to get a couple clean runs.

March 2015 photo/ rider Erik Hölperl Some spots make you wonder if the architect had this kind of usage in mind when he designed the Building. I read about this place in a architecture magazine in the library of my university and I had to check it out. After visiting Ruben Alcantara in Malaga we found it on our way home. Probably one of the most scary spots I have ever ridden. Beeing close to the ocean you had to deal with unforseable wind gusts and a surface that would cut you into pieces if you fall. worth it though.
