I love my trail bike, but I will never get rid of my DH rig. Its to much fun and can take much more of a beating at the bike park. But I just don't see the need to go buy a new dh bike every year, ill probably have my 26in dh rig for a while.

me too, get the new tech that makes a real world difference.. but keep the "old " DH for the few days it gets a beating. best use of funds.

You can't compete in Rampage with your AM/Enduro bike.
Just simple as that.

That's why I'm keeping my DH bike.....hope springs eternal

@Travel66: I hear ya! Last time I did Rampage I just killed it!!

have you competed in the rampage?

There was a Hard Tail rider in 2004, but crashed in practice. It can be done. Old site is on BLM land. . . No wooden features, but raw or old lines. . . Also the judges would score you accordingly to difficulty of the feature under their rubric, I think a rider on a smaller bike could hang, they would just have to have mad skills. Can Ginger or Fling monkey be ridden on a hard tail, Yes. So. . .

On a true downhill trail (steep grade, rollers, drops, brutal rock gardens) nothing beats a true dh rig. But for tighter, less steep more free ride oriented trails (and occasional dh), trail bikes are surprisingly capable. They will never kill dh bikes though. Just like a Trail bike won't kill enduro/all mountain bikes.

If you're over 190lbs and ride dh specific trails like the world cup course at Mont saint Anne then a dh bike is the way to go! I can never see myself without a dh rig. I have a yeti sb6c and I just don't feel safe riding rowdy dh trails at the speeds I would normally ride on my dh bike, I bottom out the suspension on the sb6c with ease at speeds and on large drops where my dh bike would eat that shit up without any complaints!

Wow a week until the first round of UCI world cup and DH being dead is even a question...

Riding my GT Distortion and my Trek Session back to back in the park one day, this isn't even a question that needs to be answered. I was exponentially faster, more confident, and HAD WAY MORE FUN on my big bike. DH bikes are king.

Nah...Enduro and AM rigs are great, but nothing beats a good ol' DH bike on a pure DH track. Steep, big jumps, drops, boulder gardens, events like Taxco, ValdeSol, DH series, Rampage, ALine, many more.

totally agree with you, but not sure about the ALine...

 DH FOREVER

 braaaaaaaaap!

all mtn bikes..........

why would you bring a knife to a gunfight?

@stacykohut: Because sometimes carrying a heavy gun will impede you in a fight... knives can be more versatile.

DH it's a reason why Snowboarding is a reason why. It's a reason to go down the hill as fast and comfortable. I would rather climb a hill than bike up it. Silvester stalone climbed a bunch of stairs to feel like he accomplished something. Falling upstairs is not that baad, unless your knickname is Danger. So for this post, it doesn't matter what you ride, it's how you feel doing it.

ugh it seems that my DH rig has taken a back seat to my "daily" rider, 160mm everything bike. But if more DH trails were accessible in my area I think I would use it more. Still can't seem to get rid of the big burly DH bike because it rides so nice!! well rides nice down, can't pedal it for anything!

This is a stupid poll. The bikes are so different, 3 degrees or so difference in head angle is a good start. What will the next poll be? DO you ride your Cyclocross down Whistler?

I think it is more asking is your trail bike your all around bike. Living on the north shore, most my friends have sold their DH bikes and now ride trail bikes in the bike park the few days a year they are there, however I still have my DH bike for those fun summer days in Whis.

i dislike riding my tracer, it feels all wrong, i ride it occasionally for attemopting to build some fitness. rode it last week felt awkward, next day got on my wilson, even on the flatter local trails it ffelt just like home. i'll always tr and have a dh bike too

As good as my reign is, my session is way more capable when it comes to 70+ days a season I ride the bike park in whistler. An all mountain bike will never handle that abuse.

I love a dh bike and cant afford both. I like the size of.dh bikes but there are enduro bikes now that are being mad bigger. Ive got a fast rolling tyre on my demo 8 and love it. Ride it everywhere

I own a DH bike because I don't want to ride silly, light and expensive AM bike bits at the DH park. 2 ply tires, DH tubes with sealant. Have fun changing flats on your Enduro rig bro, I'll see you at the bottom. Smile

yup,, see no reason to get rid of my 2007 Trek Session 10 DH rig.. does the job just fine, I do have my 09 Meta 55 for local trails....(26" wheels go round the same way as larger ones.....LOL)

I LOVE my Intense Carbine 275c. The REAL question should be has an "All-mountain" bike replaced my 26" trail bike. With the combo which I am running now... YES!

It's not a fair question to say that an "All-mountain" bike replaced my DH bike. I would keep both in the stable.

But for most of what I ride on, in my area, I cannot complain about my Intense Carbine 275c.It does it all for me.

i have a specialized camber 29er and its a sweet ride on most things, but i will all ways have my demo 9 you just carnt beat the grin factor when your pinning a gnarly arse downhill run yeahhhhhhhhh Smile

I bought a Freeride bike that gives me the best of both worlds it has the travel of a DH rig but it also can climb very well. 180 mm Front and rear.,

Rune and Darkside here. At least while I have the health, money and time, I will always prefer a DH bike for hard trails/park/big jumps and the Rune for lighter terrain.

200mm travel of poor suspension on DH bike vs160-180mm of high end suspension on AM/Enduro( or whatever people are calling it these days)bike?

I shuttle and go down only. Will never give up my DH bike. If I have to pedal up at all, my DH bike does fine and gives me a better workout

Where is the 'I own a DH bike for DH racing or park riding' category. Given how amazing my Capra is I wouldn't own a DH bike if I didn't want to eek out every last second in a DH race, and if I still lived in Whistler I'd definitely have one.
  • + 0
Got a capra, blows all five 8 inch + travel bikes I've ever owned. If I lived in Utah or BC I might feel differently but unless you've got oodles of money to invest into biking DH bikes are done and freeride is dead
  • + 1
Where is the answer "oh hell no"?
I don't own a DH bike but I would love to have one. And riding a DH bike in the bikepark is way to much fun
  • + 2
I can't afford to ride a DH bike 6 times a year, I ride my enduro multiple times a week though.
  • + 2
I'd say it further cements DH's position. @ejopdahl kinda nailed it

Anyone that says downhill is dead and means it needs to get off the green tracks

I feel like the day I'm rich enough to own one, about a month later I'll be rich enough to own both.

I only do downhill so why would I swap it for a non Dow hill bike that will brake more often ?
  • + 1
 Break?

I like to have a bike for all disciplines.

I like aluminum, 26, and a lot of travel.

^^Same here.. I ride my DH waaaaay more than any other bike.. Though it helps being 10 mins from a bike park

I own Both, an Aurum for park days, and a Range for everything else.

Some people just don't DH a lot. Depends where you are. Not everyone is luck to have easy access to DH trails.

Has the modern polls killed the brain cells?

I love both equally different tools for different jobs

Nominee for dumbest PB poll of 2016? I think so ...

If I only owned a DH to be able to say ANYTHING than what others tell me

Both have places and use for me so no need to argue on this topic for me.

3rd option is exactly how I look at it
