Downhill or All-Mountain Bike?

You ride trails, but you ride bike parks and downhill trails for your primary riding experience, and you can only have one bike. Would you choose a DH or an all-mountain / enduro model?

So sick of this sales/marketing poison that says an enduro bike is the same as a big bike. I can't even go to my lbs and buy a full face lid or sit on a big bike. Marketing f&@ks have and are ruining a sport for the all might $$

I agree and disagree. I think Enduro is growing because there is more guys realizing you get a little more ride time for all the entry fee money. I miss the popularity of DH, but I dont miss selling DH bikes out of my shop. Everyone is after a YT anyway. Makes it hard for the LBS to compete. One very big pickle going on in the industry for sure. Commence rebuttal...

You'd think they would realize that n+1 was better for them in the long run. It's cool. I'm keeping a DH bike in the fleet indefinitely. I only ride park.

surly encouraging you to have one bike that can do it all, instead of having several bikes for specific disciplines is pretty dumb, if its all about the $$?

I have a park bike, a trail bike, a DJ bike, a cruiser, and I probably paid less for all 4 combined than 1 new Enduro or DH bike. All of them used from here on Pinkbike. Wink

Pretty silly question. Surely it totally depends on what you have on your doorstep.
What's that bullshit scaremongering about if you have a V10 you've got to be Josh Bender ?
Come on people, ride what you like and enjoy it.
Forget what the mags say.

I agree. Even if an All-Mountain could handle your downhill runs, the fun factor is so different with a big bike.

what happened to freeride rigs? still got the 180 up front and the geo to huck like a dh but a little lighter and better gearing for everything else

I'm not sure what to think about the whole down hill scene.. I know there are some bad asses out there. However when I'm riding Moab and passing a lot of these super burly bikes with people in body armor, full face helmets, on down hill sections with my 6inch trail bike, It makes me think a lot of you guys are full on posers.

Against the grain but bought my first DH rig last year to ride the parks after beating the crap out of my Kona Process. I have no regrets about buying the big bike, bags of fun either way!

Bought an E29 as a long travel AM bike that I can pedal up, and it does that perfectly. It however is not designed for the nastiest Gnar on the Shore like Wild Cherry and 5th Horseman sections. Angles are still a bit steep. I will probably get a DH bike to complement it for occasional use.

All lbs now laugh when I say I ride a demo 8. They say haha nobody rides downhill bikes now. Have you tried an all mountain or a 29er. I laugh back harder when they say 29er, I can't help it lol

The question is simple. .. have you become scared of not riding a Dh bike to its potential in the park and need the excuse of only having a smaller bike Smile
(Joking btw).
Off to Malaga soon. For once not taking my DH bike (V10). This time I am taking my trail bike (mega tr), not even my all mountain bike (nomad).
I have raced Enduro (it was pants, you just catch to many people) and race dh still.
I am an ok rider, better than the average 41 year old, how will the mega get on... well I am pedalling up this time and she is not standard (-2 angle set and a 10mm lyrik up front, 27.5 frame with 26" wheels).

If the wheels are strong And the angles are proper Trail bikes can send it

Downhill Bike for downhill tracks or massive stuff, but AM/Enduro for everything else. Two COMPLETELY different bikes though. If i could have one it'd be a 160mm travel bike.

the only reason why I would get an all mountain bike again (actually sold the one I had for drug money and DH/bike park parts which is basically an own kind of drug) is because its always fun to have that second piss around bike you got for pissing around on. f*ck actually any proper riding on it.

Only time I cover elevation is on a chairlift. 'Na'mean.

This is exactly why I bought an Norco range, for those days when I'm not in the park, but when I am it's full dh !!!
