What if lightweight tires were immune to cuts?

Lightweight wheels and tires are the best performance upgrade you can do to anything with wheels and tires. Hands down lightweight tires make a huge difference in performance on a bicycle. Lightweight durable wheels are the first upgrade I always do to every bicycle I get.

That is silly. Weight is by far only one criteria when it comes to a tire.
stiffness, radial compliance, rim profile have way more influence than a couple of grams. And don't even start mentioning radial weight....
These are factors that matter to th 1-2% pro riders in DH WC, but not to 95% of the masses.
the lightweight trend in Mountain Biking (Freeride, Gravity, DH) is all just big marketing BS.

my favourites are always the guys purchasing a super lightweigth carbon rim, and then adding half a kilogramm of Huck Norris, Tubeless Tape and sealent

It's not just weight, it's also sidewall stiffness. If an S Works version was as durable and sidewalls as stiff as a Control or Grid, I would absolutely use them instead.
