Is the push for smoother, flowier trails a good or bad thing?

 all of these answers are leaning to either side and there is no middle ground. If you live in a place where super techy trails are the norm, then when you get to ride a nice flow trail its kinda refreshing. this does NOT mean that you want all the trails on one style. an even balance is ideal.

 These answers don't give any room for a naunced view point. I think variety has to be key. I don't want every root and rock on the whole mountain removed - but neither do I want to only ride tame motorway trails. There's a time and a place for flow trails and there's a time and a place for rooty/rocky gnar - sometimes even on the same trail.

 It's not mountain biking if it's smooth. Leave the flow stuff to the parks. Stop neutering trails.

 I am from Vancouver And know that many trails on the N. Shore are flow trails but it is not hard to find the knar if you want it. Rogue trail building is not good for our sport as we are finally getting positive relationships with land managers and through this we will be able to save some of the old school trails.

 shit i just wanna live in a place where having too much of one kind of a trail is something i have to worry about. talk about first world problems haha

 The only time it bugs me is when someone takes an existing trail, that some old bastard like me spent years building, and smooths it out because its too hard for them. All trails have their place but everyone's idea of a perfect trail will never be uniform. Leave the old trails alone, they're built how the trail builder wanted them. Spend the time and build your own idea of a perfect trail, and everyone will be happy!

 I could care less as long as the jumps are burly.

 I'm not a big jumper, but I like steep, rough and fast, so flow tracks are kind of counter to what I like since they're full of table-tops that just slow me down.

 More evil tech trails please.
