Who is responsible after the digging is done?

Say you have just built in a new zone. Who, if anyone, should be responsible for maintaining your trails and features so they remain relatively safe, or at least consistent, after they have been constructed?

As a trail builder I dig to have a good time an motivate other riders, but I dont wana be the only one throwin dirt. Others that want to shred should pick up a shovel an maintain what they want to ride before hand. An if they want to stick around, help break fresh ground an help keep the trails alive!

There should be a both option.

I think that it should be the builder's responsibility to organize crews of riders, or to organize trail maintenance days. That way the builder can be present when maintenance happens, and the builder can make sure that his/her original vision for the trail is preserved. But while the original builder should be overseeing/managing the work, those who use the trail should be there actually doing the work in the way that they are instructed by the builder.

My works safety topic for 2013 is "see something, do something". They want everyone to go home at the end of the day in one piece!! If all riders used this attitude and slogan how much less maintenance would need to be done on trail days and they could instead focus on building on trail days!!

I love the trails I ride on, unfortunately I dont have the now - how to trail build. So I make sure the trtails stay clean of leaves, and mud puddles.
The trailbuilders have enough work to do!!!! Wink

There should be a extra section saying, "consult the trail builder and make/help with the changes."

It really worries me how many people said nobody, and the builder... if anyone it isnt the builder, they have already paid their dues by building it, and riding an un maintained trail is just dangerous.

i think its everyones if your a rider and see its you responsabilty not to ride it and tell the diggers. and its the diggers job to mend it

diggers should limit themselves to the amount of trails that they are able to stay "ranger rick" on. If they build it and leave it - it will ultimately turn into "the little sister" disaster mentioned. if you build it, you have to maintain it, or at least organize a list of confidants willing to keep it safe...

I just hate it when beginners mess with features and make them more accessible to less expirienced riders but less fun for the advanced riders who made it!

Locals! locals should be responsible for the local trails but also people who ride it out of town should contribute too!

we have a plan to keep trails safe-ish, a city cup, so trails get a full rebuild at least once a year tup
