Low end specs but hard to beat for the price! Fork and rear shock are low quality, that would be the firt upgrade to do. Brakes would have tio be hyf=draulic if you intend to do more downhill than cross-country too. Still it is a great start for montain biking at a low price. The frame is very good and I was impressed with this bike overall.

Purchased new, direct from Diamondback.com for $450. I got the 2017 Recoil 29 (base model). I would have to say it is a great bike for the money, but I recommend upgrading your forks and rear shock for sure. Those two changes will bring some real life into your bike and save you about 2-6 lbs depending on what you buy. Upgrades are readily avalible due to the bikes standard dimensions and design. I have now upgraded mine to the max with lots of help from the buy/sell section of this site Smile

I purchased a 2014 Diamondback Recoil 29er and love the bike. I was in the market for a decent bike for a great price and this is what i found. I have ridden it pretty hard and it has taken a beating.

Diamondback 2011 Recoil (MSRP $649.99) — Take on the rough stuff aboard Diamondback's Recoil. A tough aluminum single-pivot suspension frame with 4 inches of travel soaks up the bumps, and the SR SunTour fork has 4 inches of suspension for total confidence when the trail gets wild. Tektro mechanical disc brakes provide ample stopping power in all conditions and Kenda tires supply traction up and downhill. The reliable Shimano 24-speed drivetrain delivers the perfect gears to tackle the uphills as well as pedal hard on the flats.
