Big, powerful riders will love the Pro's stout, efficient feel, but even our lighter testers found it civilized enough for longer hauls. The rigid chassis and full-carbon Ritchey fork offer excellent cornering accuracy, allowing the GTR Pro to flirt with the limits of traction. Shimano's 105 wheels feel solid and proved themselves tough by remaining perfectly true after an 8-mile descent with a flat rear tire (say, where'd I put that spare tube?). A nonadhesive-backed, narrow rim strip that doesn't cover the offset spoke holes in the rear caused two flats in one ride. Before you take the GTR Pro (or any other bike with asymmetrical spoke holes) for a spin, make sure the rim strip covers the full width of the rim bed. We also spent some time on the GTR Pro using Shimano's lighter (and tubeless) Dura-Ace wheels that significantly smoothed the ride quality and woke up acceleration--proving this GT has upgrade potential. With a great parts spec and high-tech carbon frame, the GTR Pro packs solid value without compromising the needs of performance-oriented riders.

An All-Mountian bike at close to an XC weight. Independent Drivetrain is more efficient than most other designs out there. Factor in the incredible value and the parts spec and the fact that the Demo program lets you take out a full XTR bike to try out and you've got a winner. 'Nuff said!
