sold my upgraded 2005 kestrel edge as i was to big for it.
Was looking for a good hardtail and a reliable make and i came across this Norco Storm 7.1.

As with any entry level mountain bike it was made on a budget, Brakes were not impressive and thats not chucking it down a trail that was riding to work. Forks are good but no easy adjust . So bought some new forks , Changed front hub to a hope 15mm thru axle for new forks and fitted the m4,s i had. Im not a mad downhiller just like getting out on the bike and its good as fold now. If you want a good hard tail for 400 sheets then buy a second hand looked after one . Spec will be better. gave 3 stars due to poor brakes (entry lvl i know)

We bought my fiancé the 2015 Norco Storm 7.1.

I actually ride it more than she does and I really like it. You are correct in that the brakes are week even though they are hydraulic. They heat up and fade way to fast. I am upgrading to Elixer 5's that I took off a Stumpy FSR.

The fork could stand an upgrade at some point as well. Otherwise, I really like the ride. I can actually feel the difference of the 27.5 (650B) wheels as they roll faster and climb over rocks easier than my 26" wheels on my bike.

I would recommend this bike as a great trial bike that is a great "bang-4-the-buck" that IMHO the frame is worth keeping and adding upgrades too for serious XC riding for a few years.

Sorry for the typo... "Weak" brakes. In this order I would upgrade the following:
1. Brakes
2. Rear shifter
3. Forks

Otherwise, you are pretty much good to go.
