they are amazing. more ground clearance, shift quicker than you can blink an eye. shift up or down under super hard load. so you can be cranking so hard up a hill and it will shift down instantly without any drag. the cranks are stiff as hell, and its really not that heavy. you get to take links out of your chain since you only run a 22 or 24 tooth cog. and on a bike that needs a long or medium cage derailleur on the back , this allows you to run a supershort. even on a xc/am bike.

i love them, and i see a huge advantage in the freeride portion of mtb. once they figure out how to make them a little more price friendly, i see double rings becoming completely obsolete. i would highly recommend them if you have the coin.

Placed this product on a new build. Typical con is the cost however on a new build the price difference is marginal.

Pros: Durability and absolute shifting when you want to shift. Not when your gear agrees to shift. No more chains flying off rings. No additional guides, rollers or fooling around. This is set and forget gear, well built, durable and performs as required when requested, everytime.

Would put this on all new build bikes from this point moving forward.

No doubt it’s a great product, especially for a DH/Freeride frame that doesn’t accept a front derailleur. It is very useful for pedaling uphill to a trail head, which doesn’t have a shuttling option. With this you’ll have the following benefits: High chain ring ground clearance, you could use short cage rear derailleur for better chain tension, shift while pedaling forward/backward or not pedaling at all and even while on air during jumps/drops. To sum it all, it’s amazing!

I think this is an awesome attribute to any all mounatain or freeride bike. The way it shifts cleanly and no pedaling nesessary is useful for many reason and many trails. It can excelarate great. I found that after riding with the hammerschmidt i almost never shifted the rear. It creats a fast switch between an Ideal uphill gear to a good pedalomg gear.

You get more out of the propulsion then what you put into it = less work, 60% less. Internal overdrive feels good on the road up small hills, mostly for everything; it's like having a bigger gear in a smaller package without the really stiff feeling at first. I think this crank is the best, they're just not very cheap.

From day one I found my HammerSchmidt to be exactly what it claims - instant shifting technology that works great. I found an instant advantage when I am peddling up to the top of a local DH run in 1:1 gear and instantly shift into 1:6 for the drop-in. Before HammerSchmidt I would have to pedal up, stop on the platform, get off the bike and hand-crank the pedal while shifting into a higher gear, remount and drop-in. Now I stay on the bike and smile at my friends while they are "getting ready". A real testimony to the use of this rad technology.

Instant shifting, better clearance... totally amazing. Took it for a testride and was super impressed... I'll get one. Price is ok if you look at
all the components individually.

8 inch travel Freeride/Downhill bike now can climb steep hill for those decents! Ground clearance of a 22 single ring with bash guard. Shifts 10 times faster than XTR rear derailure and it's a front shifting Crank !

Instant shifting even during the moment of more pressure, more ground clearance, your chain guide won't ever bend again, low maintenance.
