Fun Timez Crew Snow Fights 2021

After a one year hiatus Snow Fights has returned and it didn't dissapoint. As opposed to last year we finally have a true winter to enjoy which won't stop us from getting our bikes out. Countless instagram posts of guys and girls all around the Baltics getting sketchy in snow testify for the latter. A rather warm day of about 2 degrees allowed riders and spectators to enjoy the event to the fullest. It was even weird to think that Leogang World Championships had same temperatures with just less snow.

While for previous years Snow Fights has taken place in Kiviõli, this year we came deep into the Southeast Estonia. Kütiorg is the deepest and biggest ancient valley in Estonia. This place is no stranger to downhillers. Many say that the hardest tracks are here. Last time we had a race here in 2019.

Spirits were high after months since our last gathering. Riders were ready to present their snow riding skills. Hanging a leg about through twisty turns while sticking to a rut became the main winning tactic and yet the fragile nature of these ruts turned it into anyone's game. At the end of the day three riders really stood out from the crowd. One BMXer and the other two who haven't touched their bikes in a long time. I guess it's a wake up call for some that competition is getting rather fierce.

Each time the events get bigger and better. Mainly thanks to Juho and close-knit friends who's passion is bikes and everything around that.

This time Armin Pilv took it upon himself to organize this event. Aside from being busy with organizing, track maintenance and racing he found time to have fun.

photo
Karolin Peterson has been the go to medical supervisor for FTC events for quite some time now. On sunday she had to react to three incidents.

photo
Hendrik Kirsipuu has started a Fun Timez Crew Twitch channel and some say that he will leave biking for streaming. Sometimes he plays CoD Warzone and other times he streams himself cooking or skiing. That sunday it was Hendrik snowboarding along with racers. The end result, a super cool livestream. Follow him at https://www.twitch.tv/funtimezcrew.

Practise trains made for some good fun and carnage.

Grip was nowhere to be found but luckily fall damage was set quite low.

Practise runs done, it was time to go over the rules and to thank the sponsors. Alex Fedenko wanted to race on a BMX/snowboard hybrid thing which meant that a poll was required. He was granted permission to race. On one hand he had better maneuverability and on the other hand he couldn't accelerate as fast and at high speeds.

At about 3pm riders set to the start line.

Triinu Raid rose to the top step that day.

Hendrik following each race with a gopro in hand to broadcast it to those at home.

Favourite for many Robert Johanson did not deliver and was dropped in quarterfinals. Maybe he should have cleaned his helmet after Lousa World Cup.

photo
Tanel Kallastu has been practising biking in snow. This led him to fith place.

Tõnis Talv denying an attempt to pass from Tanel in semi-finals.

Armin has two Snow Fights golds under his belt and was eager to defend his title. Unfortunately it slipped away this time although he made it into the finals.

A great crowd gathered to spectate. Skiiers and snowboarders had a nice overview of things happening from uplift.

Kristen Põder is one of the best BMX freestyle riders from Estonia but since last year he has shown us that his skills translate quite well to mountainbiking. Man is fast and from Kütiorg he left with third place.

photo
This is how the finals looked like in the beginning. Shortly after Armin wiped out and couldn't close the gab with Kristen.

Tõnis deploying a tripod and navigating through a left hander. He finished second.

Paul Raid had quite a lead from others and took the gold.

photo
A bit colder than usually however one can not pass a champagne shower.

photo
Double win for the Raid family.

photo
Big air jump was opened after the race and riders had a chance to show some style. Siim Savik, also a transfer from BMX scene throwing a whip.

photo
It was cool to see Robert doing 360s and a 540 on skis.

photo
Riko Mäeuibo showing off his skis.

photo
A casual backflip from no other than Eduard Andrianov.

photo
And then the crème de la crème by Kristen. If not the first then a very rare mtb frontflip in Estonia.
