Press Camp 2016

Sombrio have been through a lot over the years and the 2017 collection looks to stay true to their coastal BC heritage, while implementing the latest technologies and functionality. Highlights from the upcoming collection include the return of the technical denim pant, urban styling with features like performance fabrics, and design cues taken from the environment around their North Vancouver stomping grounds. The collection is looking really good with some great functionality thrown in for good measure.

Limited edition Margus Riga print Renegade Jersey

Forest Collection - Limited Print Renegade Jersey and Badass Short

New for 2017, Sombrio’s Forest Collection contains a limited run print in collaboration with photographer Margus Riga. The jersey looks great and its casual, t-shirt style cut and reasonable price make it an extra hot bit of kit. It’s constructed using Cool Wik fabric, which is soft to the touch but contains the performance benefit of keeping you comfortable for longer. It also features a drop hem to keep you covered when out riding. The collection also includes a women’s specific version with a similar use of the same print.

The short fitting into this category is the very competitively price and super lightweight, Badass short. It features a durable, four-way stretch fabric that does hold some water-repellent properties and an ergonomic cut where the front is a little longer than the rear for a better fit when pads are worn—punter's gap be-gone!

Pursuit Jersey and Short

A new line for the 2016 season, this Enduro/AM range keeps the key features but gets a new appearance for ’17. Key benefits of the Pursuit jersey are the Chill Mesh, which is a material that is not only lightweight and breathable, but also features a Xylitol treatment which produces a cooling effect against the skin. Great for those warm climates or big, hard effort days in the saddle. This is strategically placed where a cooling effect is going to be most beneficial (on the back, under the arms and around the torso along the rib line), while the rest of the jersey is constructed with a comfortable moisture wicking fabric. It also features a well shaped drop hem for comfort when in the attack position on the bike, but not so long that it looks like a dress when off.

Pursuit Jersey

The short contains an all-mountain fit that is comfortable with pads, but not so baggy that you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back into the mean streets of the late 90s. Lightweight four-way stretch fabrics and laser perforated ventilation keeps you cool on the way up and allows for good airflow. Durable two-way stretch materials are strategically placed where they are commonly needed to make the short durable when things go wrong on the way down. This is a robust short aimed at the more aggressive riders among us.

Pursuit Short

The Sombrio Waistband retention system is a nice feature that looks set to go the distance. Rather than stitching velcro material to the TPR tabs for the adjusters, Sombrio have laser cut the u-lock right into the TPR tab. It’s simple, solid feeling like any other waist adjusters, but shouldn't fray or have any stitching fail, resulting in a useless adjustment system. The short also includes a small amount of silicone printing on the inner waist band to help keep them in place as riders get wild down their favourite trails.

No stiching to pull apart on the waist adjusters thanks to the laser cut u-lock TPR.

Riff Jeans

New return of technical denim though with a modern cut and updated fabrics

Digging up an old classic isn’t worth the time if it isn’t brought up to speed with current trends. The Riff jean has done just that, with an updated cut to suit the current trends. The jean is fully purpose-built for riding but clean enough to wear in a casual setting. The crotch features a reinforced gusset, the rear pockets include stealth zippers and a small reflective panel for those riding bikes after dark, and there's a woven in dry release material mixed with the denim for all the moisture wicking qualities needed to keep riders comfortable when working a little harder. They also feature an ergonomic cut over the knee that helps keep them in place when out on the bike, especially when wearing pads.

There is also a women’s denim short available (the Robson) with many of the same features.

Women's Noble Jersey

Speaking of the ladies, the Noble is a smart looking new jersey in the line for 2017. Available in either the marble or a coastal graphic for that classic heritage styling, the jersey also features the Chill Mesh tech fabric across the shoulders and upper forearm to keep you cool on warmer riders and 3/4 length sleeves. The Noble will be replacing the Pedigree jersey that is currently in the line.

The Women s Noble Jersey is a looker.

Youth Collection

Not one to leave anyone out, Sombrio also have the groms covered for 2017, with a full line of gear for youth sized 8–12. The collection is essentially a shrunk down version of the race kit and holds onto all of the great features of the full size line.

Grommets need good looking kit too.

Got excited enough about the Renegade Jersey with the forest print to go to Sombrio's website and it's not on their website. So is this just a preview of stuff not available yet? I'll forget all about it before they put it up on the website. My attention span just isn't that long.
  • 1 0
Yes, this is next years product, probably available in the late Fall or new year.
  • 1 1
 try Walmart

 @MmmBones: Whaaaaat?
  • 1 0
yeah this is a preview for the 2017 line, so I wouldn't expect them to be for sale for at least a few months. Unfortunate because i like it too and i too have a short attention span lol. I'm interested in the Badass shorts
  • 1 0
I just looked at CRC and yikes i can see why they are on sale. I can only assume you bought them a while ago and there were more options to choose from cause what's available now will make your eyes hurt

 @tonestar: sublimation shirts

How about someone making shorts that are brown or black? Maybe a nice sage?
If you really want to make my day. Please make the shorts out if hemp with tripple stitching.
I want shorts that are plain simple comfortable and will last a decade.
Btw i have lots of old School Sombrio clothing. Love the stuff!

Good call! I buy gear that comes in black. I choose the most comfy black gear I can find. Enough with the kaleidoscope designs!
  • 1 0
You don't think they make those shorts in black?

How much are you willing to pay for the hemp short, $200'ish, when they make that, then everybody will complain about the price, even though they would last for 10 years
  • 2 0
@tonestar: if you're charging 200$ for hemp shorts you're doing it wrong. I just paid less than 70$ for a pair of Patagonia organic hemp pants and the last pair I had lasted me about 10 years.
  • 2 1
@lifeofloon: you are talking about a large outdoor brand in Patagonia, if you take notice, even the largest mtn bike clothing manufacturers only sell a fraction of what Patagonia would sell. It is more based on volumes, less volume, the higher the price will be, it would 1 or 2 items that Sombrio would make from said fabric, maybe a few hundred pieces at the most, Patagonia would make about 6 to 10 items with said fabric, with the volumes being at a few hundred per size.
  • 2 0
 @lifeofloon: thank you!
Sorry Sombrio. Im checking out Patagonia clothing.
i believe Patagonia swag has a life time guarantee .
All the hemp stores i have checked out have over priced yuppy shorts but nothing for the sports crowd.
  • 2 0
To be pedantic, Dorel Corp who own Sombrio is absolutely massive compared to Patagonia. I'm sure that 'Sombrio' could produce affordable hemp shorts if they wanted to.
  • 7 0
I don't like any of it really enough to part with a few $100's. That's just me though, and I'm older then the guy that said he was old.
  • 1 0
Don't worry, they make stuff in black for us old guys.
  • 3 0
Still riding in the first shorts and jersey Sombrio created. It has to be around 12 years or so. And still having all the beautiful catalogues and design books from early 2004 / 2005 collections Wink Happy to see them back after all the problems they faced...

"with an updated cut to suit the current trends".

dont hate because you dont look good in skinny jeans.
  • 12 3
@lyophilization: no man looks good in skinny jeans. You just look like you are wearing your gfs jeans...
  • 6 1
 @bigburd: haha bruh you salty
  • 6 0
lol I should've remembered Semenuk wears skinny jeans before making such a comment. Well I'm glad you guys are so happy about the airtight fit of your pants. Say hi to your testicles for me when you release them from their denim prison.
  • 1 0
@fabdemaere: no need to if you wear jeans with stretch. I only wear jeans with stretch because they're the best for cycling as well as the comfiest.
  • 1 2
 @fabdemaere: haha so insecure
  • 2 0
Not as salty as the sweaty nuts of people who wear Deni-lycra haha

Sombrio shoes are dirt cheap on CRC, bought a pair for the winter as my 5 tens took an eternity to dry out but now the sombrios are my first call riding shoe (once they wore in as stiff as feck out the box)
I really liked the gear on show in the article BTW
  • 1 0
My Sombrio's are yard shoes now, not even a month of riding and the soles were toast. They were garbage compared to 5-10's. Very disappointing...
  • 6 2
The Forest collection has a Burton vibe to it. That is a good thing.
  • 3 0
Always been a big fan of Sombrio stuff. Fits me perfectly and is very durable
  • 1 0
I'm the same. I've got two pairs. Had them 6 or so years and they are the best pair of shoes I've ever owned for anything regarding their durability. And I was sad to see they arnt making shoes either @kiksy
  • 3 0
Best shoes I have had. A Pair of Loams.
  • 2 0
Seems like they've stopped making shoes Frown I've got 2 pairs and love them.
  • 1 0
I had been wondering that. With 5-10 getting moreexpensive and reports of decreased durability i am looking for alternates.
  • 1 0
Second that. Love their shoes. On my second pair of high tops - shazams (got em cheap ages ago, left them in the box while I wore out the first pair).
  • 2 0
BRING BACK THE FOOTWEAR!!! I've never worn a better pair of shoes. Have 4 pairs! 1 pair is still good from 4-5 years ago.
  • 2 0

The women's jerseys are hideous... Why cant we get in on that sweet digital print trees design, I'm super sick of everything for women being turquoise and pink.
  • 4 0
From the article "The collection also includes a women’s specific version with a similar use of the same print."
  • 1 0
Should have been pictured, but the Vista Jersey is a Marcus Riga photo print as well.
  • 3 0
Although I like that they are 3/4 sleeve jerseys, lots of companies only do short or long versions.
