Wales in winter might not be your idea of a dream destination, but riding bikes in wet conditions is something the Brits specialise in. What's more, finding a venue with a public road uplift, over 15 trails combinations and everything from steep tech to big triple jumps is not that easy - hence why Llangollen is episode 2 of Euro Dream Trails.

Former British Downhill series champion Al Bond joined us - he's got serious credentials and pace. Now carving out a career coaching, Al still puts spade to dirt on a regular basis. The scene has a lot to thank him for.

Beautifull area of wales, i was lucky enough to be working as ,a outdoor instructor back in the day. Awesome riding in the area and those trials are steep. on the opposite valley from the mtb you can climb trad and sport in trevor quarry. And in the photos you can see the river dee, you can kayak, canoe and raft and there is 2 camping sites in llangollen . Just over the horse shoe pass is llandegla mtb trials plenty to do for a weekend.

I sat around for a while trying to get a shot of someone on the river but had no luck. I genuinely would consider moving there - reminds me of Northumberland a bit but with a more progressive attitude!

Yes! I grew up only a few miles from Llangollen and spent many a year at school in this ace little town. I still live nearby although on the other side of the valley and manage to get a ride in on the awesome 'Llan' trails every now and again. If anyone hasn't been to One Giant Leap, it needs to be on your list. Not only is Martin one of the most decent guys you could meet, he's carved out, literally, a fantastic business and the tracks are fantastic and as testing as you'd want. Al Bond also has an ace coaching business, really knows how to teach and has an informative, easy to follow approach. Kudos also to some other local heros, without who Llangollen wouldn't be the even more awesome place to ride than it is. They know who they are and what they do, so thanks.

I raced there in 2009 and loved it - so this was my first return in a decade and I couldn’t believe how much Martin, Al and the crew have achieved. Hopefully we managed to give Martin a bit of the limelight that these “salt of the earth” builders all over the world deserve.

Word! I want to bring him up to Northumberland to convince some of our upland farmers that diversity involving bikes can be a good thing. He’s such a great bloke.

He was a pleasure to chat to, hang out with and he tells a fantastic story! One of the most genuine people I’ve met in mtb for a while.
