The 10 Year Challenge... for Mountain Bikes
the balfas are so timeless, incredible bikes. i got started around 5 years ago on an old bb7 with a reshimmed 5th element from suspensionwerx and monster Ts, thing was a complete beast and I was hooked for life. my dad (somehow??) pedaled the thing up fromme while I was at work and now owns his own downhill bike as well. it may have been an old bike, but it was so far ahead of its time that it gave us a taste of how much fun it is to ride a stable and slack bike down those trails and there was no looking back. now whenever I see crazy looking new bikes I wonder if the balfas looked crazy to people when they were released. its funny how looking back with this article, its the only bike that looks "normal"

north van you could have one if you started somewhere like braemar where there are a lot of those "alleys" that have staircases between grass paths. nelson you could absolutely have one. big hotspot for urban skiing/snowboarding spots and I can think of a few lines you could build for bikes through there.

Video: Skate Park Style on a DH Bike in 'Going All In'
its really one of the least spoken about but best things about dh riding. i had a great summer of ripping on my dh bike, but as soon as I got on snow i was reminded that i have some pretty serious knee and back problems still - i had almost completely forgotten about them riding my plush enduro/dh bikes. my dad is 62 with multiple surgeries on both knees but you wouldn't know it watching him rip whistler bike park on his dh bike.

Video: Danny Hart Previews the 2020 Lousa World Cup Downhill Track
@spoochypants: i feel like everyone needs to go to a world cup track in person after watching a helmet cam, its insane how much the gopro smooths out and flattens the track. i watched the claudio helmet cam of mont sainte anne before going and thought some of the gaps looked mellow and fun to ride, but when you get there everything is 3 times bigger and two times steeper then on video. on video the gap minaar did last year looks cool but in person its incomprehensible. now I know anything that looks moderately steep on POV is insane IRL

Commencal Launches New Meta & Supreme... Skis?
@basiledownhill: i would have the opposite reaction. i remember a lot of broken factions when I used to ski plenty, but my meta has held up incredibly well to years of hard riding and still rode like new the day i sold her. i wouldn't be surprised if factions are durable well built skis nowadays.

@PinkStatus: its so easy to set up a SRAM fork to help you go faster, just turn the red speed selector knob on the bottom of your lowers all the way in the direction of the rabbit instead of the turtle.

Pinkbike Poll: Would You Rather Have an Air or Coil Sprung Shock on Your Trail Bike?
did you find it made the bike less playful and poppy at low speed? i have a dhx2 on my dh bike where the trails im riding are fast and rough enough that I can get it airborne anytime, but I love having an enduro bike thats nimble and poppy on the slower mellower stuff I ride with friends who don't bike as much. I haven't tried a coil shock on a modern enduro bike, so I'm not sure how much of that liveliness comes from the air shock.
