The fastest gravity mountain bikers from across the country descended upon Angel Fire Bike Park for the National Championships last weekend, Aug. 1-4, 2013. Check out this exclusive footage of the competition with Pro riders like Aaron Gwin, Jill Kinter and Graeme Pitts pinning it down New Mexico’s toughest trails. The course was a combination of Chiilin, Fo Sho (new), Supreme DH and World Cup. Running 2.45 miles long and descending 1,937 feet.
Will be a confidence boost for sure, but he has no competition at National level.. No real indication of how well he is going to start riding on a WC level.
Maaaaann, I really like gwin, but how can you compare a national Field with world cup reapers??? I mean this title proove he is gaining pace and confidence, which is a good thing, but wait for the next round of WC to see if he is at 100%
It won't shut up the haters!!! Aaron Gwin might have won this race, but this isn't a world cup track. It's nice to see he's coming back, but I think everyone else caught up to Gwin during the off season... He's still got a battle on his hands. I'm thinking that Gee Atherton and Stevie Smith might have the win this year.
personally i think this edit sucks just because they only film the pros and interview gwin half the time. they only fimed the people who are already known. now why the hell dont they film the smaller teams and the people who need that exposure? i just dont give a shit about watching people like gwin since he already has a new f*cking edit every day. i much prefer to watch jrs and people that are fast and not known enough.
Yeh, the lines between dh and bike park are tight.
A longer back end for stability seems to be for dh, shorter is more fun for razzin.
I also wonder if Gwins bars being crazy wide and much stiffer than the likes of funns makes a difference.
Bars and tyre pressure!
When I tried Renthals they were brutal stiff, made the track seem so much rougher.
You see people riding higher rise versions of the super stiff bars they are sponsored by, therefore have to ride, as the higher rise dampens some of the shock caused by the stiffness.
Congrats to all the US Champs in their respective classes! Angelfire is a rad place to ride! Kudos to the bike park crew! Too bad the crowd for such an event was disappointing....
Nice plug for the Bike Shop Jill! I actually totally agree. Those guys have helped me out on numerous occasions and know how to fix DH bikes fast. Once, just before the Chili Challenge Pro-GRT, the mechanic had to put his practice race run off to get me back on course so I could race that day.
As long as Gwin rides a demo his race results will suffer. He would be better off on the Status racing WC level. Dont agree? Look at the turn around Sam Hill has had since getting off the Demo. Its either the Demo sucks at WC level or Trek racing had him on PEDs
Sam hills eorlds win is the only world cup level win for the Demo and he won it early on hid tenure on that bike. Think what you want but the Demo is a terrible WC level race bike and it shows with gwins recent fall
Not true, Hill won at Schladming and Monte Sainte Anne in 2009 during his first year after switching from ironhorse. He also won the overall title that season as well, yes it was his first year on the demo but he had no issues winning right away with specialized. Hills' injury at Ft. William in 2010 was a freak crash and it took him most of that season to come back mentally and physically, but he came back and won the WC championship. If anything Sam's feedback improved the demo for him just like Gwin is gradually making the demo his own.
Gwin is not only seriously talented but also very lucky to have a new grill. If you're not insured/rich in the US and want to ride hard you actually have to consider the possibility of being in debt for the rest of your life if you get injured. even w/ "good" insurance you're still looking at a quality of care well below (imo) that of Canada.
That track was a little too wide open with too many high speed flat turns. Not a lot of features compared to the June Race. The Pro GRT track was more fun in my opinion.
Apparently usa cycling said that angelfire couldn't send racers down the lower chillin rock garden because it was too rough...lets just stop and think about that...
Kidding...
Track looked amazing fun, Gwin is starting to look more comfortable with the longer back end.
