The BC Bike Race is excited to announce that North Vancouver, home of the infamous North Shore trails, will host the opening stage for 2014. Going into year eight, BC Bike Race, the “Ultimate Singletrack Experience,” will make a slight change to its route by hosting stage one in North Vancouver. After three years away the trail conditions are right to bring the event back.

The iconic ladder bridges of the North Shore are some of the most recognizable trail features in adventure tourism today. Bike Magazine recently recognized North Vancouver as “one of the most influential bike destinations in the world.”

“The legendary North Shore has played a big part in the development of the global mountain biking history and connecting the circle route of this history from North Vancouver to Whistler just makes sense,“ said BC Bike Race president Dean Payne. “We want to offer our participants the ride of their lives!”

This is where we live and the BC Ferries get us to some amazing places.

The North Shore is changing, under the trail stewardship of Mark Woods and the NSMBA (North Shore Mountain Bike Association) the building style is new school with lots of ‘pump and flow’. This has made the trail access much more universal and the riding experience that much better.

A thin line of dirt wends through a green forest taking the rider to the finish of Day 2.

Stage 2 will take place in Cumberland, stage 3 in Powell River and from there the course will remain mostly the same as the previous editions; the Sunshine Coast, Sechelt, stage 4 and 5, Squamish, stage 6 and Whistler the final day, stage 7.

BC Bike Race would like to thank Campbell River for being an amazing partner over the last three years. Their excellent handcrafted trails have provided thousands of riders from over 35 countries with a mind-blowing singletrack experience. http://campbellrivertourism.com/

BC Bike Race will continue to offer the enduro special segments, two per day and four Shimano kids races: North Vancouver, Cumberland, Sechelt and Squamish. The new course in North Vancouver will be announced in the early spring.

You mean southwestern Canada. Because a lot of Canada is snow all year or gets it for 8 months

if you mean most of canada as in population wise then you're wrong.... very wrong, we live in vancouver, quebec, toronto etc. not yellowknife or whitehorse last time I checked

I was riding in Cumberland today alternating 1-2 layers on top. Warm and dry and the trails are in prime shape right now. You should move.

Who watches a biking movie and says "Wow I'd like to move into the north of Canada when there's snow all year round."

He obviously means he wants to live in an area with trails like this, as y'know, he's responding to this and all.

If I'm moving to Canada it would definetely be to somewhere I could ride almost all year round! Otherwise I would have to improve my snowboarding skills hahahaha

That was filmed in the summer. All of Canada is covered in snow right now! I had to clear a tunnel out of my Igloo to go get a snow shovel from Canadian tire.

That's very exciting! It'll be interesting to see what trails they string together for a long ride. Campbell River was one of my favourite days of the BCBR, so riders next year will miss out on that.

Pump N Flow on the North Shore?
  • 1 0
Yes, pump & flow is in the North Shore now.. Thanks in part to Mark Woods! A great person to have working the trails for us.
  • 2 1
A little more pump and flow is nice for the North Shore. But as long as it does not take all of it's original character away. The only reason North Shore is my favorite place to ride is because it's not full of the Pump and Flow BS. But a little bit, sure why not, but please leave North Shore as North Shore. I need it, if it were not for North Shore I would give up MTB. I can only take so much of the Pump and Flow BS. Sooner or later, your gonna need the stuff the newbies used to dread. Punishing and unforgiving is how I like my trails!

What trails do you consider flow? Bobsled is the only one i know that is like that
  • 1 0
I'm wondering myself, I guess it would be the newer trails being built according to the article. What new trails have been built according to this new school approach, that is supposed to make the trails more universally enjoyable?
  • 1 0
I have not seen the new Bridle Path trail yet.
  • 1 0
None of these trails are "North Shore" in North Van by the way.
  • 1 0
What are you talking about harmar? Bobsled and Bridle Path are NS. And the article read that the BC bike race is going to start NS. North Shore is North Van.
  • 1 0
Umm, not sure what I was thinking. Never mind.

 nice trails!
