Round 2 had the perfect conditions for an action-packed day with some fast times by all, 'Flatland' into 'Sheep Skull' had a variety of roots, jumps and high-speed section throughout to challenge every rider. The sun had also made an appearance that brought out a great crowed who were scattered around areas such as 'carnage roots' and the last few corners which made for some great atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.
'Flatland' was just as it says, luckily the sun dried the fast single track so it was easier to maintain speed. This was not easily done due to the amount of sniper roots, tight trees and twisting single track to catch even the best of riders out which it did in race runs. Keeping composure and looking ahead would reward riders with more momentum in sections such as 'carnage roots'
'Carnage Roots' saw plenty of action throughout the day, this is where you could either gain or lose time. It also allowed plenty of line choice so was a very busy section during practice with riders trying to work out which line was faster or easier. Luckily, everyone walked away after their fall and managed to successfully navigate new lines so that they could race in the afternoon.
Luckily, the track dried out very quickly and the rooty sections were getting easier, but that increased riders speed meaning that it still wasn't easy to hit your lines perfect. This made times super tight throughout the day and second runs dramatically changed positions at the end of the day.
The middle section included a lot of 'off-camber' and tested riders abilities to focus. Again, there was plenty of line choice when arriving to the rock drop which saw riders tackle some tricky lines that would reward with momentum while traversing over to the final fast and flow section, this was vital as this was the main part of the track where pedalling as needed.
The finale to the track included plenty of high-speed turns and jumps for riders to 'show-off' their skills and abilities in the air, this was a great spectator viewing area and attracted plenty of people before and after their race runs to support everyone who was racing. It was great to see everyone helping and supporting each other on and off the track, it showed that the Mini Downhill brings the DH community together to support and strengthen the race scene.
A big thank you again to everyone who helped and was involved on the day... We hope to see you at the next round!
