Bird launches the new Zero 29 - the full-bore hardtail following in the footsteps of our popular Zero AM range.

The new Zero 29 follows the same template as the Zero AM with customised builds, tidy CNC detailing and progressive geometry, but is turning it up to 11 for the 29er format. Its not our first go at a 29 hardtail, we've been prototyping testing for over 4 years, but its the first we wanted to launch, as the ingredients needed to make it just so coming together for us at last.

For hardtails, more so than a full suss bike the inadequacies in components can be easily exposed. If you don't have the right mix then you might quickly find that the ride is compromised. We've waited to launch this one until we had everything just the way we wanted it.

A fully winter proof ride with our signature long, low and slack geometry the Zero 29 is exactly the bike you need to keep the wheels rolling through the winter - every mile can be blasted at max speed. Large diameter wheels roll fast enough for the fire roads, it's light and agile to dispatch any single track with ease and strong enough for the DH tracks; the Zero 29 can tackle them all.
Zero 29 Details
• Slack 64.3 head angle and 130mm of travel meets a berm destroying -80mm bottom bracket
• 42 & 44mm offset forks keep the wheelbase in check while delivering a more composed ride
• New Bird Factory wheel sets Featuring Hope Pro4 hubs on DT Swiss XM481 or EX511 rims across the whole range, even the lowest price models
• Designed without compromise for 29 x 2.5 or 2.6 tyres
• Ultra tough, winter-proof anodised or powder coat finishes
• Starts at £1550 for a complete bike

Nice looking rig from another independent UK manufacturer of super fun hardtails. Anyone know the trails?

They're up near our Northern office in County Durham... If you get over for a demo Ben will be happy to let you know where they are Smile

@BirdBikes: Cheers guys, for some reason I thought they'd be in the South but recognised it wasn't Swinley. Are there demo dates on your website?

@MancAndy: There's no demo calendar set up for next year as yet, but you can demo from Swinley or Hamsterley anytime.

Just when i'm about to pull the trigger on a Nukeproof Scout 290 frame and this comes out, looks so good! Time for a bit more decision making... @BirdBikes curious what drove the stack to be quite a bit higher than comparable frames?

The low BB makes for a big stack. We find that the longer the reach the wider and higher you want the front, so a low BB delivers that feel without being perched up high.

Hope hubs on every build available?! Continue this trend, Bird.

Thanks gkeele - we're rolling out these wheels on all our models for an all round better spec.

@BirdBikes: whats the total weight on each of the builds?

Cant wait to see someone flip a bird.

I like the spec on this bike. Nice hubs, nice rims. Tired of seeing Novtec hubs on bikes in this price range. See, industry, there are quality components out there that compete with junk.

Now I know what's I've been doing wrong, my current bike doesn't have a "berm destroying" bottom bracket.
In all seriousness though, these bikes look like a ton of great value for the money.

Just when you thought BBs couldn't get any lower... Just say no to rock gardens!
  • 1 0
Just get a taco-type bashguard and say yes to rockgardens. There is a ISCG05 mount for a reason Smile .

bb is very reasonable with 29" wheels on 2.6 or bigger tyres.

That bike looks like so much fun! Great job on the geo! If this had 415-420 chainstays, I'd have one in a heartbeat to replace my chameleon.

Now THAT is a price point I can get behind!!

Excellent geometry and spec! If I were in the market I would be sorely tempted

Dang these bikes are getting slack! It wasn't long ago that 66 deg was slack AF now 64/65 is the norm

  • 1 0
Can we get them in US?

Hey Twentyniner - yes you can.
  • 1 0
 Frameset anytime soon?
  • 2 0
Very soon - certainly by December.
  • 1 1
Can I run my existing 51mm offset fork with this Frame?
  • 3 0
Ha, yeah you can, 51 works just fine too Wink some might even prefer it...
