UCI Launches 5-Round eMTB World Cup XC Series
All the "why XC ebikes are for enduro" and "make the courses really long so they have to go without batteries" comments are missing the point. The ebike market you see on pink bike might be 180mm enduro gnarpoons but its not where the market the manufacturers see is. They see a market where they sell hundreds if not thousands of Walmart bikes for every time someone looks at a new heckler. No Walmart aren't selling UCI xc ebikes but, the people who are buying, if they have any idea of competition at all, couldn't tell you the difference between pedersen, schurter or bruni's so it's all good. In terms of development and payback for a manufacturer lighter motors, better batteries, more efficient drive trains, regenerative breaking and smaller (more aero) bikes will pay biggest dividend in xc but they'll all sell better across the board. XCe might not make the most exciting race format but it will make the biggest difference to ebikes in the shortest time.

Industry Insider: The Potential Impacts of the Novel Coronavirus on the Bike Industry
@b45her: I think your orders of magnitude are a bit out there. Can't say I trust the source but given its the same one we're hearing from with covid19 it seems sensible to use it for comparison. The Chinese national health commission put flu deaths at 144 in the 2018 winter flu season, in January of that season alone there were 274k cases (for 56 deaths). Even if no one caught flu any other month of winter that's a 0.05% mortality rate (0.02% in January). The same body reports 2.0% mortality for novel corona at the moment. Now I accept those flu figures seem artificially low but there's no reason the same body would be reporting the recent outbreak differently. The UK reporting puts annual mortality from flu at circa 1%

That's what summer riding looks like. If a bit dry.

@boss-matsumoto: of course though, when they know where you live (because that's where they nicked the bike from) the likely repercussions of pressing charges for you are probably worse than for the theif.
