Welcome to Kyle’s world. We followed Kyle around his nearby playground of Alpine, California, and learn't a lot about his style and love for fishing. In his character filled garage, you'll find a Lincoln Continental and lots of different COMMENCAL rigs. These moments we spent with Kyle allowed us to discover more about him, his many passions and his unassailable addiction to MTB.

Driving a Japanese car and riding bikes from Andorra.. 'Murica!
  • 17 6
It's really hard to see what their target market is...
  • 54 3
Japanese in name only. Toyota is more made in America than most of the "American" companies. But I see your point.
  • 15 12
and jeep is arguably the most popular car brand China. Tis a global economy thing.
  • 27 1
I got a lot of respect for this dude. Not only can he rip a bike, but he stokes out all the kids he coaches here at Highland. All season long riding the lifts with the campers, they love telling their stories about being coached by Strait. Dude's doing good things for MTB in 'Murica.
  • 7 2
The way he rides, I'd love to see him on a DH race course!!
  • 20 4
@cthorpe lol jeep as a brand sold 88k vehicles in china in 2014. that is not even close to being "arguably the most popular car brand (in) china" hahaha. by comparison, VW group sold 3.67 million vehicles in china in 2014.

stop making stuff up, its not cool.
  • 6 0
he is the first guy (that i remember of) to have ridden for Red bull and is no longer doing it, they seem to be once you ride for us you ride till you stop riding
  • 4 2
Probably not the best comparison, not saying that I agree with cthorpe cause that sounds a bit unbelievable. But VW group selling that many cars is not just VW, thats VW, Audi, Porsche, Seat, Skoda, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Bentley. Maybe not the best comparison. Just saying its more than just VWs. Even though Id guess that still more VWs sold there than Jeep. Not sure where cthorpe came up with the most popular comment, maybe people they really like them but not a lot sell there. I dont know.

I get it, he's making money he can choose whatever brand is gonna make him happier/ more successful.
I just think that commencal making the push for the "American boy" in the other story to start selling in the US was trying a little to hard.

he should have a ford and ride khs like bingelli, country treason
  • 2 0
@jjohnny350 true, ya got me there. but still. china is the largest auto market in the world, so i mean 88k units is not that much even for a country like canada. and china has like 40x the population so yeah
  • 2 0
It's not the largest auto market in the world... largest population in a country though. The two don't go hand in hand.
  • 1 0
My bad. They now beat out India in new car registrations but that's it.
  • 2 3
Yeah smarter than your average 'Muhricvnt. Wink

Better rider too. How 'bout that scrubby @ 3:00 yeah?

Since when is Lincoln Japanese? O.o
  • 2 1
 Toyota tacoma is.
  • 1 1
@makripper with all due respect, china is the largest auto market in the world.

these figures are for 2013, but it rings true for 2014 as well, minus a slight slow in sales growth.
  • 3 2
everybody knows japanese cars are the best!!
  • 1 0
@jaycubzz I said car brand, not car. Theres a large craze for jeep branded merchandise in china right now. with around 1500 + registered merchandice retailers vs. 120 auto retailers. Also at the moment jeep vehicles sell at around $180,000 in China because of tarrifs, and yet their sales numbers still grew 63 percent over the previous year. their popularity is explosive and with a future Jeep plant in China in the works, the price should drop drastically and should equal a much larger market share for jeep in China.

Plus China is known to create their own knockoffs of popular cars from around the world. sold under auto names like Chery and Foton. So vehicle popularoty cant really be relayed through recorded sale numbers. If they like it they make it themselves. Top gear did a special on this as well.
  • 1 0
@cthorpe ah true, i see where youre coming from.

but still, isnt it difficult to gauge popularity based on merchandise that isnt necessarily related to the actual vehicles?

to me, accessibility=true popularity, and jeeps, until they can lower the cost of vehicles in china via domestic production, are not "popular" due to cost.

i would argue that any luxury/supercar company like ferrari, lamborghini etc are probably more "popular" than jeep, because, I mean, who doesnt want a lambo or rari?
  • 27 2
Scrub a dub dub... He's such a powerful rider- if you set up one of those 'whip your rear wheel into a branch' shots he would probably fell the tree, maybe the whole forest.
  • 22 1
"I definitely love living in America, that's why Commencal USA is for me."
Even he knew that was a stupid marketing stunt with that laugh.
  • 8 0
That just hurt to listen to... So canned. Props to Lyle though - he is, as everyone says, so smooth.

Kyle Stait here, just hangin' out in my garage in 'MURICA.
  • 4 5
When someone writes "murica" I think of a kid with a pink beenie on, but only part way so it looks like a condom. Probably not going to be well read or deep thinker. Next applicant plz
  • 6 2
Used to respect comencal a lot more with the old graphics (Atherton times). Never thought the font would have such an impact on me... or am I just not in their target group?
  • 8 3
I actually e-mailed them when the new graphics came out to say how I thought it cheapened the brand. Needless to say I never received a reply.
  • 9 3

  • 4 0
It's not good. When it rains. If it rains. We go running out with a shovel just to fix the old rain damage. The rest of the time the ground is hard as rocks and scrubs off all your skin when you land on it. But sunny and 75 every day of the year is a fair trade.
  • 1 0
 America beats Canada
  • 5 8
Oh I see how it is, Commencal has money to be producing videos but not to send ONE SINGLE STICKER with your frames.
