Commencal Announces Meta AM 29 'Signature Brushed' Edition with Thomas Estaque Video

PRESS RELEASE: Commencal Bicycles

For 2019, the META AM has been equipped with 29'' wheels. Many things have evolved on the frame in order for us to offer the best enduro 29er. We have used all the experience we gained when we made the SUPREME DH 29 in order to design a bike that is as reliable as it is dynamic.

Largely revised, the META AM 29 with its big wheels brings more serenity. There is new geometry alongside 160mm of travel. The META AM 29 has already proven itself in the hands of Cécile Ravanel. Her numerous victories holding these handlebars are a good indication!

Now we have the "SIGNATURE BRUSHED" version. Our brushed aluminium finish highlights the beauty and reliability of an aluminium frame, a true staple of our brand since the beginning.

See Thomas Estaque in full ride mode on the banks of Lake Salagou in the video above.

Commencal definitely have aluminium bikes nailed

hm, i am pretty sure it is welded Wink

I trust the PB commenters can create a coherent pun thread that actually sticks.

 Fasten your seat belts everybody

 @HundyWZM: *seat bolts

If only they would offer the green & brushed options as frame only- the green one especially.
  • 5 4
 pressfit bb though
  • 3 0
@drjonnywonderboy: install Hope pf41 threaded BB. Problem solved.
  • 3 1
@drjonnywonderboy: Irrelevant. Been running the same original PF BB on my 17 Meta AM 4.2 since I got it. Still smooth, completely free of play. It's fine. Relax.
  • 1 0
@ninjatarian: We can buy the brushed one in AM or TR frame only...!? lol I'm just waiting for the snow to melt so I can try the Clash, Meta AM and even Meta TR and decide but in Canada the small and large brushed Meta AM are already sold out!! :S
  • 2 0
@brightfff: the issue is with creak. I have had a few creaky PF BBs.
  • 2 0
@brightfff: Same here on my 2017.
  • 2 0
@brightfff: say what you want. Theres so many threaded options on legit bikes why choose pressfit?
  • 2 0
@pargolf8: with the advent of threaded pressfit BB's (Hope/Wheels MFG/Praxis), why let the BB lead your decision?
  • 1 0
@privateer-wbc: touche. Not a deal breaker for me. Just there are so many quality bikes being made now that our options are essentially only limited by budget
  • 1 0
@pargolf8: totally. And I'm just playing devils advocate. I actually try to avoid press fit myself Razz
  • 1 0
@Timo82: since you're interested in the clash, just wondering, are you also interested in the supreme sx? Just curious because I'm also interested in both.
  • 1 0
@rpartlan: No! In fact I want more of a good all around bike... Meta TR with 130mm is a bit short in travel and heavy for what it is. Meta AM has a lot of travel for a 29er but I want to try it. Clash is too big of a bike for me but I already have a 2019 lyrik and Industry 9 wheelset that I could use with it... It's the new bike with everything new and better but still a bit heavier than the 29ers. I'll try those and see if I'm feeling good to climb with them... So no, no supreme sx for me! Wink Nice bike but not for what I want to do with it!

YT started downgrading their specs. Same goes for Nukeproof, sadly. Commencal reverses the trend and puts even better specs. Definitely the best out there.
  • 15 4
If only this bike wasn’t so god damn heavy. I love the looks, water bottle placement, travel and geo, and am not a weight weenie by any means.
  • 3 3
Weighs as much as my DJ bike last year with the MTX 39 wheelset. Not bad, I actually detest light bikes, they feel awkward to ride.
  • 10 0
"when you can't measure what is important, make important what you can measure." So it is with bike weight.

All else equal, sure, I'll take the lighter bike, but not all else is equal.
  • 1 0
@maglor: good read, and it all makes total sense. I need to find a way to safely strap 5lbs of weight to my current bike and go for a ride and see if I notice anything. I think that would be the closest way to get a true indication of how much it matters. I think the GMBN guys actually did a video like this once

I have this frame/shock setup in the 27.5- killer bike. Absolutely love it, I hung my own pick of parts on it though (stans flows/ renthal bars/ xt with saint brakes) It's a sick, sick bike to rip on. I need to try the 29 for sure
  • 6 1
Wow that is awesome value, $5,900CAD gets you Fox Factory DHX2 with SLS spring and GRIP2 fork, XT brakes, GX Eagle and decent e13 wheels. That price gets you trash entry level build on a Megatower.

Love their line of bikes these days, wish I was closer to CO to be able to see them in person

Does anyone know if they have similar sales like YT (10% off) - I am looking to pull the trigger but a bit hesistant as I am not too close to bike brand schedules
  • 3 0
They will discount bikes at the end of the year. If you look at their website now you can see the discount percentage on last year's model.
  • 1 0
They have used bikes and previous year completes/frames for sale all the time. You're in extra luck if you ride a medium or small. They always have a great deal on their page.
  • 7 3
Commencal puts out the best bang for your buck builds out there right now, not too mention they are the fastest bikes in the world with proven results on the racetrack.
  • 4 0
Fwiw Commencal is actually one of the very very few legit bike manufacturers that are pushing the envelope in the kids department too. Good company to support.
  • 1 0
Ramones 12 and 16 are in bicycle room already. Next year we'll have to expand the family on Meta 20 and most probably one more Ramones. This time 14.

After all this I'm expecting from Commencal one badass offer for the new daddy's bike Big Grin
  • 5 0
Good God that's NSFW. Prettiest.... bike.... ever.
  • 1 0
Love the fact you can buy just the frame also on the website. I really wish they would give the maximum seat post insertion length of this and the other frames it would really help guys like me who are taller and need a longer dropper and build bikes. @commencal bicycles

The kink in the seat post worries me a bit now that I look again. Could be tight, especially with 200mm of drop. My wife's giant has a kink in it and it def limits it.

That being said, if you are a tall guy (I'm 6-4), this isn't exactly the best I'd guess. The reach is short at 480mm and more importantly the actual seattube angle is extremely slack. You'll be in auto-wheeling when climbing like the Following or Hightower LT. Not cool and a legit flaw for us.

Ripmo is a sick option as is the new Jeffsy 29 (I've ridden Ripmo but not new Jeffsy). Obviously the new Yetis would be ample fitted as well in XL. I think their reach is like 505 or so with steep STA. All benefits a tall guy.

Oh and just call Clay. He'll get you the help you need.
  • 1 0
Agree, and brushed Al frames are the nicest looking frames going. Especially with the lines on that bike. Just beautiful. Wish they made a shorter travel trail/AM version.
  • 1 0
Well, I guess they do make a trail version. Nice.
  • 1 0
Got the Clash a month or so ago and am blown away by the quality, customer service and shreddiness of this bike! Been hitting lines that I never even considered on my previous long travel 27.5. Very confidence inspiring and the climbing isn't all that bad either. Next bike might be this 29 version tho as I'd like to get into racing some enduros. So the Meta 29er and a Furious would cover all the bases I believe.
  • 1 0
 How does the Clash pedal?
  • 1 0
I wanted a Clash and they offered it with Fox Factory 36 and in a lightwr British green type colour but now i can't find it on their website... It was their highest spec one.
  • 1 0
Just found it on the UK website under "Clash Signature". Wonder why it's not listed on commencalcanada anymore.
  • 1 0
@Svinyard: been pedaling it uphill since I've got it and have only good things to say about it! Everyone who is interested in the Clash knows that it is a downhill monster and should be willing to give up the idea that it pedals up as good as a fully carbon 29er trail bike. It is no speed demon up but it is no slouch either. The suspension lockouts help and in my mind I will gladly give up the little bit of extra uphill ability of the bike for an absolute demon on the down.
  • 2 0
I don’t like that the brushed aluminum is $200 more than the sand color but if you buy the frame only the prices are the same.
  • 4 1
Commencal has some great guys running the visual design right now. I love their colorways.
  • 1 0
If the Meta's get a update to the abp/spli-pivot/axel pivot type suspension design that the Clash has in the next year or two will be pretty hard to pass with their excellent and well priced build kits with aluminum frames
  • 1 0
I’d like to know the ride characteristics of this vs the clash. I’m sure the 29er is more racey and all, but how do the meta 27 and the clash compare?
  • 2 1
haven´t ridden a clash, but I have a lot of time on a Meta AM 4.2 and the meta is definitely a race bike. It´s super planted , carries good speed and grips very well around corners. It´s not the best climber though.
  • 5 0
I would like to know how it rides vs Capra
  • 2 0
@pakleni: experienced rider I know bought a '19 capra and his father got a '19 meta brushed so he has the opportunity to go on rides and compare the two bikes and said he liked the meta a little more than his Capra. Sorry for the void of details, it was a pretty short conversation.

A big fan of Thomas Estaque’s riding style. That section just after that little bridge in Vallnord last year was crazy.

  • 3 2
nice bike as usual by commencal but the price is hefty, a propain tyee with similar stuff would be around 3.5k. the limited yt capra had full xtr for the same price.
  • 1 0
And it was available for mmm one day? lol
  • 1 0
@Timo82: the point is it was effectively 1.5k cheaper, the propain is 1k cheaper. I really like commencal and also own one but this bike is not priced very well
  • 1 0
First the Supreme and now this. Insane beauty. I prob say the Supreme is still a touch more pretty but maybe it's just the photography. These guys are bike art.
  • 3 0
 It's a godamn beauty.
  • 3 1
brushed alloy just looks absolutely amazing
  • 2 0
are you sure it doesn't come in metallic pea?
  • 2 1
Makes me want to paint strip my alu Sentinel. But I just did it on a old steel race bike. And it's a pain to do by hand.
  • 2 0
Waiting for the 29er supreme sx
  • 1 0
Doing this finish on the hardtails?
