PRESS RELEASE: Cannondale

Cannondale today released two new F-Si Hi-MOD framesets, with matching Lefty Ocho forks, in throwback colorways that celebrate our rich racing history. Available in Viper Red or Team Blue Gloss, these state-of-the-art framesets pay a colorful tribute to our early days of cross country.

The Viper Red version is a nod to the HeadShok-equipped hardtails ridden by our legendary MTB race team from 1994 through 1997, while the Team Blue color, with Yellow “quad-wrap” decals, recalls the peerless CAAD3, CAAD4 and CAAD5 framesets raced from 1998 through 2002.

In their day, the oversized aluminum frames and HeadShok suspension forks of the Cannondale “Factory” Racing team’s bikes were as cutting-edge and radical as the new F-Si and Lefty Ocho are today. They offered a true performance advantage, making us the bike to beat. During its eight-year run, the Cannondale team racked up an unequaled list of victories including 11 World Championships, 17 World Cup titles, 16 National Championships, 33 NORBA wins, two Olympic medals (Silver and Bronze), and two Pan-Am Games Gold medals. The team earned a healthy number of podium places too including 184 at World Cup events, 35 in the World Cup series, 21 at World Championships, and 84 at NORBA events.

“It’s been a fun 25 years. It’s rad to see Cannondale remember the good old days with these frames. They bring back a ton of good memories,” said Tinker Juarez, long-time Cannondale mountain bike athlete. “I’m lucky to still be part of the Cannondale family. It was a dream then to get the support to do something I loved doing, and it’s a dream now to still be doing it.”

“Like a lot of people, I was crazy about these bikes,” said Peter Vallance, Cannondale’s Director of Product Management. “These tribute framesets are for all of the super fans out there.”

Our throwback F-Si frames have all the same features as the current F-Si, like OutFront geometry, the agile Ai rear triangle, Speed Release dropouts, and of course, the Lefty Ocho, the world’s first single-crown, single-sided suspension fork. The F-Si throwback frames will be available in sizes S – XL and will only be produced in limited quantities. To learn more, visit www.cannondale.com. Be sure to also follow Cannondale on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.

My first serious bike was a Super-V 1000, the old C'dales stoke such nostalgia!

Hopefully @Cannondale can make Ratboys bikes in the same colours when it’s officially announced

Canadian website and NO mention of Alison Syder's absolute dominance racing the original versions.

I remember watching her at the World Cup in Canmore in 1998. Absolute beast. On top of the last bridge she lifted her bike above her head to the crowd. No one was close to her.

 @nozes: ha ha ha!

And how could they forget that time Martin Ashtan used the same colour bike to win the world trials championship?
Didn't Missy Jiove ride for this team, too?

@jaame: ...and Cadel ‘The Lung’ Evans.
  • 1 0
@PNdubRider: Tinker "Tomes" Juarez was a good friend of his!
  • 1 0
@Powderface: I was there as well, have a picture of her lifting her bike that I should look for.

Shame it failed to throw it back to the days of threaded BBs

always wanted a f-series hardtail in team volvo design back in the days. beast of the east was also rad in red.
  • 4 0
My brother has an Atlanta Olympics model in his garage Smile
  • 1 0
You could ride beast of the east over loga and rocks without pedal or frame stricking

 @donpinpon29: bb was sky high

Looks like they may need help editing images. Who do I contact there?
  • 14 1
Maybe that's part of the throwback thingy. Hand cut-out images with a blunt pair of scissors glued to black foamboard :'D
  • 4 0
Oof, yeah. Looks like somebody converted a transparent .png without adding a white background. :Facepalm :
  • 4 0
These are all just film camera images with flashes used. The flash creates the dark shadow behind the biker.
  • 1 0
@downhillnews Are you talking about the photo of Tinker riding the woods?
  • 4 0
@btjenki: looks like PB fixed it. The bike images had black backgrounds and you could see the artifacts from the PNG clipping.

 @Klainmeister: Got it. Thanks!

Ever since last summer, pictures inside Pinkbike articles have almost always covered text and other pictures. It must be my lack of internet reading skills. If I really want to read the article I just copy the article and paste it in a text editor from where I can read it. Good thing is, if there is apparently something wrong with this particular article I wouldn't even notice it Smile . Then again there are also people who can't find the grey block stating "press release" above the article in their browser so I guess it can't be perfect for everyone. In this particular article, I see two columns of pictures covering the text and the red and blue Headshock equipped bikes also cover a picture of someone riding in the streets respectively another rider descending a trail. This final rider is also shown in a picture spanning the full width of the page. After which a readable portion starts with "Like a lot of people, ..." until the end of the article.

I'm actually curious what it looks like for other people here on Pinkbike. Is there anything special going on with these pictures? This only happens on Pinkbike for me, never seen it happen on another website.
  • 1 0
@vinay: Try another browser/ update yours, worked for me
  • 1 0
@JohSch: I'm currently using the latest version of Seamonkey so I don't think that really is the problem. Actually, I don't really see it as a problem, it was merely an observation and I was curious whether this happens to others too. It also seems isolated to Pinkbike only. Even Eskapee.com which has some funky stuff going with pictures and text appearing to scroll independently works fine in my browser. In another discussion several people mentioned that they can't see the grey block stating "sponsored" or "press release" etc, nor does it state the author of the article. Now that would bother me. But as it is, it is acceptable enough for me.

I had a blue F-series with the original lefty and the Volvo livery back when Cedric was racing 4X on one... Those were the days!
  • 10 0
I found a big Cannondale banner with Tinker on it riding a red CAAD3 or CAAD4, a banner that I got in Houffalize in 1995. Will try to take a pic!
  • 14 3
 4500... fuck you
  • 3 1
 fork is included...
  • 3 1
 @Gregorysmithj1: So? still outrageous
  • 4 1
Don’t get me wrong, this frame and fork are hot. But when people talk about the demise of bike shops, remember it’s the brands like Cannondale who are alienating customers before they walk into the door with crazy prices.
  • 3 1
6000 CAD... I'll start collecting my empty beer bottles and also start a night time dish washing job and I'll be able to afford one in 10 years!
  • 7 0
tinker was a beast back then. i entered a race against him in '88. that dude climbed a wall out of a sand wash in the big ring. i was gasping for air in the granny. last i saw of him.
  • 1 0
Yep, Tinker was a serious gear masher back when the big ring was typically 46-48t!
  • 1 0
He still is a beast. He is always a contender at the local races in the pro field.
  • 15 7
Just need to snap into two halves and it'll be a perfect replica of Cannondale frames in the 90's
  • 4 4
 Crack'n'fale!
  • 9 1
You just can’t get enough of it can you. Every single damn time the word Cannondale pops up you just have to repeat the same tired old anecdote from 20 years past.
  • 5 0
Had one like the blue one, full XTR 950, even XTR hubs on custom wheels. Loved that Fatty fork, tracked so well. Geo was terrible! Tubed tires were terrible. Rim brakes were fine in the dry.
  • 6 0
That stealth black/grey XTR group was one of the smoothest looking groupos ever.
  • 7 0
Was hoping for a pic of Ashton
  • 7 1
What's Troy Brosnan doing on those forks?

Don't know why this hasn't been done sooner tbh!!
  • 7 0
As long as Tinker gets one I'm happy!
  • 2 0
 He got one!
  • 6 0
will ratboy jib on one of those?
  • 6 0
Finally my lycra Volvo Cannondale jersey is relevant again!
  • 5 1
Cannondale engineers be like, so we want to go where the rest of the Industry is not going.

Well how about we just go backwards?
  • 9 4
Yeah, definitely throw it back where it came from!
  • 1 0
 do you have venmo?
  • 1 0
take a break, driver eight...i upvoted you for that, BTW.
  • 5 0
Are dents added during the molding process?
  • 1 0
We have 2 ridable 1999 F1000s (be it on smooth ground do to lack of Fatty D rebound no longer working) still hanging in the garage. The paint finish was the purpleen and I use mine for gravel type rides and impaired riding. The rapid rise type rear XTR deraileaur still rocks. Need to get a rebuild kit for the Fork and do a complete tune up. Will never part w these 2 frames!
  • 1 0
would love to add one of these to the wall alongside Tinkers Sydney Olympics 2000 race jersey I swapped with him as a kid for my volunteer shirt. anyone have any idea how much that jersey would be worth now? its framed still with the dirt and race numbers pinned?
  • 1 0
Its a really great looking bike but I was disappointed in the pricing. It shouldn't be near a thousand dollars more than a REALLY high end full suspension frame for a hardtail. Limited edition or not. Everyone wants to buy the bike when you make it look good so why not just MAKE YOUR IN LINE BIKES LOOK THIS GOOD Cannondale?
  • 2 0
That brings back a lot of memories! I had an F800 back in the mid 90's complete with headshock and clubroost bars, i always wanted the Volvo replica though.
  • 9 5
 $4,500 for those who care.
  • 13 12
Apparently you do since you used your time to read and then complain about it.
  • 8 1
@bman33: I didn't complain, just posted the price, something the article failed to do (for whatever reason).

I did look because I was curious though...
  • 6 4
Pretty sick, although an alloy version with aluminium hollowgram cranks, SI bar, stem and post would be a better more compelling throwback.
  • 3 0
They should include a set of Coda Cranks (magic motorcycle) and V brake mounts.
  • 2 0
The cranks would be cool. F the V-Brakes. Haha
  • 3 0
 @bman33:

I just want them to put v-brake mounts on a Lefty.
  • 3 0
Frame sets look amazing. Iconic Cannondale look. Would be a lot of fun to build up.
  • 3 0
Can you imagine being Tinker? He can now professionally race with a throwback themed bike from when he was racing.
  • 1 0
Man I wanted the old head shock bikes. I ended up with a rigid Cannondale from Costco. Onza parts. I eventually put a mach 5 fork on it. The bar ends I had on that thing were enormous.
  • 2 0
$4500 woooooooow for a frame and fork these companies are ridiculous which mug is gonna buy that
  • 6 2
 should be alloy.
  • 4 1
Why is there a headshock badge if they aren't using a headshock?
  • 1 0
why does it say lefty on the chainstay?
  • 1 0
 It's a Lefty Ocho Badge
  • 3 1
Hope his 15 year old self has some money to buy one of these bikes over say...any other bike.
  • 1 0
Looks killer. I'm not up to speed on modern XC geometry, but if this frame is comparable, they could have themselves a hit here.
  • 3 1
Good god who would want that old geo? Racers won on those bikes DESPITE the geometry.
  • 3 0
What would a modern throwback M800 Beast of the East look like?
  • 1 0
could not resist Red next year will be my 25th year on the mountainbike and my first 'real' mtb was a C'dale back to my roots
  • 1 0
I'm waiting for the return of the Super V ( carbon swing arm version ) PLEASE !!!!
  • 3 0
 I miss my headshok
  • 4 0
 you can have mine
  • 3 0
 I miss the headshok
  • 2 0
came here to say the same thing. They kept the graphic!
  • 5 0
@robokfc: there's something wrong with the 2 of you. worst fork ever.
  • 1 0
@flipoffthemonkeys: Yes, It leaked constantly, the rebound knob was useless, and yes, it was limited to 80mm of travel. But it was cool.
  • 2 0
a set of 2.4 Ardent Skin-walls would make this bike hot!
  • 3 0
 Better yet, IRC Mythos, OG.
  • 2 0
Is this what ratboy will be riding on next year?
  • 5 1
 maybe for one jump
  • 3 1
$4500? for a f*ckin hardtail it better come with a stripper.
  • 1 0
 Would certainly strip my wallet.
  • 2 0
I know right dude $4500 I choked on my coffee when I looked at price who in their right mind decided that price hahaha
  • 1 0
Had an f2000 sl in team volvo blue colours. Possibly the worst mtb I've owned, and there's been hundreds.

Without fatty is not a throwback, just a paint scheme
  • 1 0
Was the Fatty fork any good?
  • 1 0
Though it's a good paint scheme.
