We are pleased to announce that our Megatower LT link is finally available. The link provides 180 mm of travel with a 230 x 65 shock, 170 mm with a 230 x 60 shock (stock Nomad size), and 166 with a 230 x 57.5 shock. The link increases the initial leverage ratio slightly to help offset some of the harshness some have noticed with the Megatower as well as lowering the final leverage ratio to provide more support deeper in the travel and give the suspension a bottomless feel. As with our other links, the Megatower LT link is designed to maintain the same pedaling performance as the stock link so that it can still pedal all day. This means that, even when set up to provide 180 mm of travel, the link will pedal equally as well as the stock link. If you pedal to DH bike worthy trails and ride a Megatower look no further.

The Megatower LT link is being offered in black, red, and silver.

The link also increases the chainstay length by 5 mm for a little more stability at speed. We are offering the Megatower LT link in black, silver, and red currently. All links come with sealed Enduro MAX bearings pressed in so the link is fully ready to swap onto the bike. All mounting hardware remains the same as well.

Since the energy stored by a spring is proportional to the amount it is compressed squared, running a 230 x 60 shock allows up to a 8% lighter spring to be run and with a 230 x 65 shock up to a 12% lighter spring. This opens up a wider range of spring rates so that that aspect of the suspension can be tuned without having worry about bottoming out. For example, if you were running a 500 spring with a 57.5 mm stroke shock then a 450 spring with a 65 mm stroke shock would have the same bottom out resistance. The 180 mm and 170 mm travel options also allow rear travel to be balanced with longer than 160 mm forks.

We have been getting a lot of questions lately about why we don't use the flip chip so we'll take a moment to address that here as well. Our links are designed with a very specific leverage curve and travel specification in mind. The lower link VPP layout that Santa Cruz uses is highly tunable and also highly sensitive to dimensional changes. This means something as seemingly small as the flip chip can create surprisingly large changes beyond how low and slack the bike sits. Putting the stock link in low actually decreases the bike's travel and makes it slightly more progressive at the same time. We don't keep the flip chip because it would allow the link to be run in a configuration with unintended specifications.

 I must agree,it’s shocking there is an after market link for a 4K bike! This was a big market in the 90’s and 2000’s but I’m very surprised the bike rides so bad these days that someone has created a better link for it. Piss poor to be honest on Santa Cruz’s part.

 @i-am-lp: Sounds about right. This bikes reviews says it was to much bike for most occasions, as is a Ferrari. Seems about right since most anyone that tunes a Ferrari doesn't have the skill to us the tunes advantages either.

 @Mntneer: This is ridiculous. Bikes made by big companies like SC are made for the masses. Right now there's way more of a market for a 160 29er than a 180 29er. No matter how well it climbs, the general riding public would stay away due to its radical nature. Perception, not reality, matters. Add to that, any single crown forks available at 180/29 are flexy AF, which is why Fox is pending their 38 release.

SC isn't an innovator, they're almost in the Specialized/Trek/Giant category now, at least when it comes to high end MTBs. Let the small brands do the innovating, then sell a watered down, safe version later. I'm not even being critical, here - its what works for them.

 @gnarnaimo: My LBS says, yes it would void the warranty. Of course, Santa Cruz are the only ones who can give a definitive answer. My (completely irrelevant) opinion is they will void it... leverage ratios, suspension travel is changed from the original spec so they can argue that the bike was ridden outside of their testing parameters.
The other question is whether they can police this if you just swap the stock link back in, before making a warranty claim...

 I was told by Santa Cruz that it would not void the warranty unless they determined the link is the cause of a failure. Essentially the same thing that could be said for any aftermarket component. Given how warranties work in the US this is entirely up to them and since they haven't released an official statement on it of any sort there isn't a definitive answer right now.

 @gnarnaimo: It doesn't just read the SC warranty. SC frame is a soft Life time warranty. That means it only covers manufacturer defect. Like if you huck a 4 ft drop and you head tube shear right off. It you hit a 100 ft drop and that happened, well you are SOL. Another example, you roll down a rock garden, rock strikes, and shatters you frame. You are covered.

This new link causing your frame to crack due to heavy compression, isn't really likely, if anything the bolt shear first before this link would cause any damage.

SC has life time bearings and ADH RIM Life time warranty. Their rims are the only thing that is true to "you break it, SC covers you." The frame isn't. The frame is more like, "you break it, cross your fingers, and hope you can trick SC into giving you a new frame."

 Unless you can prove the rock strike is a manufacturer defect. I see you're just from Germany. Remember Murica is the nation of endless possibilities. That applies to warranty too. More likely though the rider would sue the land owner for having a rock on the trail.

 So I have this link on my Bronson and boy does it work! I will say it dropping the BB so low I’m always smacking pedals when trying to climb on chunky stuff. On the downs and drops she really does Handel it better. Would have loved to have gotten one with Cascade logo on them but meh. Still happy!

 Not discrediting the link as Cascade seem to have done their homework on their links so far but I wonder how much of the Megatower complaints is due to a poor choice of shock tune. It seems since day one all reviewers and tuners have mentioned they chose a really firm tune. I think a non biased review of a stock vs stock plus tuned shock vs cascade and stock shock vs cascade and tuned shock of any of the 3 bikes would be an interesting test to see just what changes do what for people.

 just put a longer stroke shock on there. Keep the same eye to eye. 210 eye to eye and depending on 29 or 27.5, you can get like a 55mm stroke and get 160ish out of the rear end

 not sure if most people know this but the stock 230x57.5 is just a 230x60 with a stroke limit spacer installed. wether it is rockshox or fox. you can remove it and gain close to 10mm.

 For Fox products just remember that they use a different IFP oil height for each stroke so if you remove the travel reducer some oil needs to be bled out of the shock to get the oil height correct again. We also made a basic step-by-step for removing the spacer from the Super Deluxe for anyone that's interested in that

 Is it possible to make a link for the V2 Hightower that fit coil shocks on it? I have a OG Hightower with coil shock and think the biggest bummer on the V2 one is not being able to use coil or high volume air shocks.

 the problem I think is the shock tunnel not the link. That said theres pictures of ht2's with coil installed and people say it depends on spring weight

 @thelittle: Have you tried the V2 with a regular air shock? Having had both a V1 & V2 Hightower, with debonair air shocks on both, I have been seriously impressed with the suspension characteristics of the new bike. The old bike was quite underwhelming - pedalled well, but was not particularly supple or good at tracking on jittery stuff, whilst simultaneously blowing through travel even with max volume spacers. The new bike does everything better and is extremely supple off the top, whilst still pedalling well and maintaining composure deep in the travel. I'd be surprised if you felt a coil was essential

 @thelittle: I didn't try coil on my V1 Hightower, I figured if I was blowing through travel badly with an air shock/max progressivity then a coil wouldn't work at all. I'd definitely swing a leg over a V2 if you can - the Super Deluxe is a very nice shock IMO and you might be surprised how much better it feels Smile

 @Ironmonsoon602: No that means that Chris king bottom brackets protrude more than others and having clearance there so the link doesn't hit the bottom bracket is necessary. It does not refer to raising the bb.

 @natemeyer: wrong - the link is not the component that would foul the BB (it is within the confines of the frame cutout - see pic). the BB clearance is affected by the proximity of the rear triangle (which a larger BB shell would contact) to the front triangle, which in turn is dictated by the Geo of the linkage. so in order for this link to increase clearance for BB shells, it must increase the distance between front & rear triangles, thus effectively lowering the BB height.

 @nismo325: I'm running mine with the stock shock on my 2019 Nomad. Bike still pedals very similarly - feels a little 'bouncier'. I ran it with the same air pressure for a while, but kept bottoming out. Upped the pressure 180psi, I weight 135lb's) and it still feels plush off the top, but without bottoming out noticeably now. Slowed my rebound 1 click too. Think I'll still put 1 token in, but the bike is even more of a monster now than as stock! Would love to try it mulleted

 If all of these performance traits could be achieved by manipulating a couple little dimensions of the stock suspension link, you'd think Santa Cruz would've already done it...

 Performance is pretty subjective though right? I'm 6'6", 250lbs. I promise you what works for me isn't going to work for somebody on the other end of that spectrum. I'm not really sure why companies coming up with mods to fit different segments of the population is something to shit on.

 Surely that graph of the stock Leverage ratio can't be right. There's not way it drops that severely at the end...

 If you run a 65 mm stroke shock with the stock link the link can actually contact the frame. What the graph is showing is an over-center point at the very end of travel. If the bike were to hit that point the link would invert when the shock rebounded. Since this would only occur after the stock link had hit the frame this will never happen though.

 @CascadeComponents: Ah gotchya, it's based on a 65mm shock. To be fair, I was assuming it was the stock 57.5mm stroke shock, and would recommend publishing that instead since you're comparing to the "stock" setup. Not surprised a 65mm stroke shock contacts the frame, when it's 7.5mm longer than stock.

FYI, I think what you're doing is great and a cool aftermarket option for people wanting longer travel/more progression. I personally wouldn't want to do this on a Megatower which already has 160mm of travel (but riding style and terrain could definitely make this a good option for others, but on say a Bronson I would buy on of these in a hearbeat!

 @tgent: 100% agree with that outlook. Everyone has different preferences and rides different terrain so there's no one size fits all. Having lots of aftermarket solutions so that people can tailor their bike to exactly what they want is always a good thing and hopefully Santa Cruz sees it this way too.
