I first thought this was a story about charging fat kids more for bikes.

 Funny post above!
Whiny crap below
Big reason why I usually don't chime in when I feel like it.
It's like the internet has become a great place for people to knock others down without any real risk of personal insult.
Are we all bikers here? It's a $300 bike that your kid can ride. Looks like fun to me.

 hahahahaha that made me laugh

It costs as much as your dropper post, stop bitching.

our shop got one of these and it was absolutely terrible to build up. rear derailleur was the cheapest piece of crap I have ever seen and it weighed more than an adult sized fatboy
  • 2 1
Agreed^ Specialized it making a much nicer kids fatbike

I have these at my shop. And They forgot to mention the fact that they have threaded rotors (yes, you read that right), as well as weigh around 38 lbs
  • 5 0
 what is a threaded rotor?
  • 2 0
38 lbs for 20" bike. Sounds like the Mongoose fat bike with a different sticker on it.
  • 8 0
The rotor doesn't bolt on to the hub. You thread it on, so if you happen to press the brake while going slightly backwards then the rotor will come off. And yah, it's practically a Walmart bike it's slightly better build quality

Kids aren't fat and old yet, they don't need to be on fat bikes.
  • 2 0
Are these getting pushed by the GT franchise machine?
  • 15 0
Exactly how high was the individual when he came up with the idea of a threaded rotor?
  • 1 0
Maybe they forgot to put a lock ring on the rotor. Fixed gears have cogs that thread on and those usually stay in place.
  • 3 0
If you look closely in the pictures on their webpage, you can see rotor bolts. I think you may have gotten the first version , and they have since changed to 6-bolt hubs and rotors. Honestly, you can't get an adult bike with a shimano tx-35 7sp derailleur for less money, let alone fat wheels. This looks well spec'd and great for the price point. I would buy my little shredders one if I had some and wanted them to mountain bike...I think it looks good for the money. And I think some people on here are blowing smoke out their assholes.

I like the idea of creating bikes that are fun for kids and built appropriate to their size, BUT I can't imagine that pedaling a bike that is around 50% of their body weight would be fun. Like I said, getting more variety of kid bikes is swell. Going in the right direction! Where's the carbon fat bike for kids? :-P

My kids have actually ridden these bikes, sure there are lighter bikes out there! But compared to the bikes they ride everyday Ridgeback MX20''s the cooker is much more fun better looking and priced right

 Fat tire BMX bike?
  • 4 0
bmx for kids is so much better looks heavy for groms in mud and snow
  • 5 0
No kidding! My 10yo weight roughly 1/3 of me. His bike (hard tail, 24" wheels) is only about a pound lighter than mine (and mine is not a weight weenie build by any stretch of the imagination...). I can imagine what adding a few more pounds and a bunch of rolling resistance would do to him. The whole preserving momentum and floating over whatever thing for fatbikes is all good - but you have to get up to speed for that. Which means either you have to pedal up the hill to then let gravity do its work, or you have to go fast on level ground. Either seems like a sure recipe for frustration for kids with something this big and heavy and unwieldy.

I see well spec'd bikes at a great price which will totally serve their purpose, and help boost mini grom shredders to stay cranking! Noice werk gang =)
  • 3 0
At least the kids already have great enduro style!
  • 4 6
Such an awesome way to instill confidence in the little groms. Once they're done with it in 1-2 years they'll be ready for a full suspension. This sort of bike seems like a logical step in between a bmx/hardtail and FS for a young 4/5 year old.

This may be the absolute worst way to get a kid into mountain bikes, I take it you've never taught a kid to ride? Regular hard tail, short travel fork. Kids need to learn line choice and bike handling before they move up to full sus. And they will be stoked just by being out there with you.

 Child abuse.

Not all Mongoose fatbikes are equally a POS. Take a look at the Vinson. Great starter fatbike. Especially if bought on sale.

 That dog is so cute!!!

 I'm sorry kids.

 fat bikes for kids...really...come on...

Quill stems and plastic brake levers?

Why are you lowering yourselves to this level, putting out shit like this?

What the hell has happened to Charge bikes? What a joke.

Walmart/toys r us or broke!
  • 11 0
It's a bike for children, they outgrow them fairly quickly. Most parents don't want to spend more $300 on a kids bike that they'll have to sell in a year or two. Most kiddos don't care about things like plastic lever bodies or quill stems anywho, they just wanna shred.
  • 5 0
Quill stems have the added benefit of a small amount of height adjustment as well. This is a really good price for a good kid's bike. Look at what Cleary and Islabikes charge and this is in-line.
