Can't be arsed to look at 61 bloody photos. Just post a video and I'll skip to the ones I like.

 Hahaha

This article was the greatest possible trolling to everyone whining about the video on the last one

I know what you mean. I just want to watch a video and not scroll through 100 photos!!! Come on PB!

@Arierep: I don't know, same thing every year. Not really trolling

 I enjoyed the article.

 Especially Steve's mustache

The commencal Furious is the winner!

@Jordmackay: It should be just for that shirt!
  • 1 0
I came here for this post, where is that dweeb at?
  • 4 0
@danielstutt: That comment went over the heads of 34 people so far. LOL
  • 214 1
some of these kids must be selling a shit load of lemonade
  • 57 2
Depends on perspective. I used to think this too, but my son is almost 8 now, and while bikes are expensive, he isn’t interested in playing hockey like I did, so if you aren’t buying hockey gear, plus not paying hockey league dues, a good bike and season pass isn’t likely that different in cost, either more or less. All depends on perspective.

Note: all kids in this article have nicer bikes than me. By a long shot.
  • 63 4
@VwHarman: Or grow up with rich parents in Whistler
  • 9 0
@VwHarman: Same camp. Riding was my son’s main sport and the cost of it not much different than others. Well worth it.
  • 3 0
Well, if you buy a second hand jr bike you can usually resell it for the same or close to the same price the next year. So the cost is only maintenance.
  • 60 0
Seeing 16 year olds with full kashima makes me reconsider my choice of parents.
  • 6 0
@VwHarman: agreed. If my young ones develop a passion for it I'll pay that price to help their growth. Things like biking, tennis, swimming, golf, etc can be enjoyed for your entire life but I think its best if you develop the love early. If my older brother hadn't given me his older but good quality mountain bike when I was a kid I probably wouldn't be riding today.
  • 3 0
@VwHarman: I do the occasional XC race. I'm always blown away by the bikes ridden by kids and I have a decent bike.
  • 192 2
These two should swap bikes for sizing sake!

  • 31 1
I was thinking that there were quite a few who seemed to have off sized bikes compared to their own stature... But those two seemed the most extreme examples!
  • 32 0
Yeah what's with the sasquatches riding Wilsons?

 Or this one. Good lawd.

  • 43 0
They're definitely on different sides of the sizing charts, but the perspective is also way different. Devinci guy is standing with his toe under the rear tire, Intense girl is standing 3' back.
  • 5 0
Rear triangle of the Intense looks longer than the front triangle.
  • 17 0
The big guy pops manuals just by standing up.
  • 3 1
That Intense one has actually very short reach but a long wheelbase. For pure racing its not that stupid.
  • 5 2
unbelievable difference in bike size VS rider size going on...
  • 1 0
 Yup.@wilsonians:
  • 6 0
@wilsonians: also thought the Meta looks HUGE next to her
  • 5 1
we've come to a time where a size small in many brands is nearly or past 1200mm, with 29" wheels and 160mm suspension, so no way that's gonna look proportional to a 1.65m rider
  • 1 0
lol you are right Big Grin
  • 3 0
@stiingya: for sure, bike blokes on little bikes and little girls on big bikes.
  • 3 0
I think it's fair to say that 5' girls and 6'2 or over guys have a difficult time buying bikes that fit. Only in the last year or two have I started to see bikes with numbers that make sense for me, and at 6'2 I'm small-tall, not TALL.
  • 3 0
@ObviousAlias: sorry, fat fingered the button. No harm intended.

Er, PB maybe we could make them for human sized fingers not tree frogs?
  • 1 0
@L0rdTom: Agreed. As someone who is 6'3", finding a decent size that does not hang you off the rear when your seat post is up can be difficult.
  • 2 0
@L0rdTom: I'm 6'1" and can ride my kids xs. Not comfortable but possible. Wheelbase is only 2 inches shorter than my Mega size L.
  • 1 0
@jmhills: I am 6'2" and I ride an XL transition sentinel and it might be a bit to big for me. Transition, with my experience, has had some pretty spot on sizing, they also go all the way up to XL
  • 3 0
I'm standing back from my m16, i'm 5 foot 2 and this is a small frame.
  • 1 0
@jmhills: @L0rdTom: Should I buy a downhill bike? I'm 6 foot 4 and still growing at 17. I'd like to have only an enduro bike, to be able to access more trails and whatnot. But on the other hand, most enduro bikes are way too short for my liking. I would not at all mind using a chairlift of hiking my bike, and prefer more protective and less pedal-friendly pads. PB what's your opinion and personal experience?
  • 1 0
@Hayden2248MTB: as a shortarse at 6'2 it's hard to say for sure, but I'd try test ride some large reach and long chain stay bikes. Many bikes are coming out with 530mm reach or more. The new stumpy Evo is a great example, but if you've got the dollars then something like a Nicolai geometron might suit better. Would be great to see a round up of current options for non-medium riders @brianpark @mikelevy.

Whether you buy a DH or enduro is up to you and your trails, and also what your friends ride, but personally I'd say if you aren't racing DH, an enduro sled will do an excellent job on DH tracks, with far more versatility.
  • 1 0
@Hayden2248MTB: I do not ride an enduro or DH bike and never have. I might not be the right person to ask on this one. I would look through the classifieds section and buy a used XL of some sort. There is no reason to spend a bunch of money on a new bike that you are going to outgrow.
  • 1 0
@Hayden2248MTB: Keep in mind. Even if the DH bike feels more natural under you, you are MASSIVELY limited in what/where you can ride with it. It needs to be a park or shuttle access. If thats right out your back door and thats all your ride, then go for it. If you don't have access to that stuff super easily then no point in only having a DH bike.
  • 1 0
@Hayden2248MTB: go rent one, you may find a big enduro has more room then a DH. The seat angle on a DH makes the reach number on paper not at all like the enduro.
  • 81 0
Why do I like looking at bikes so much, I have a problem
  • 6 0

  • 25 0
The scary part is that I could name nearly 100% of the models before the caption... Probably should ride my bike as much as I spend on PB or other bike sites!

So many pairs of pants, I guess I should buy some too?
  • 62 0
That Banshee Scream deserved top spot. What a beast!
  • 24 0
Nice to see the Scream at top. Pippin Osborne, one of the founders and designers of Banshee and Syncros, passed away this spring. Rest in Peace Pip. You will always be remembered.

There was no Kona Stinky though. There's always someone with a Kona Stinky.
  • 1 0
Yes! The Mag 30's alone weighs more than my current bike. Sick whip!
  • 12 0
@light: Nice to see Pippin recognized. PB should actually do an article on his contributions.
  • 11 1
@deepcovedave: Agreed. I was sad to hear when he passed away. I've been doing some digging and asking around, but he was an incredibly private person and I haven't found anyone who knew him well enough. If you've got any suggestions of who can tell his story properly, send me a message!
  • 3 0
@freeinpg: The Arrow racing and Michelin comp 32 tires haven't been in production for 15 yrs. Imagine that Scream on fresh rubber

Yeah, sad to say, it's the best one there, after 20 years of millimeter arguments. Lol.

Still got my 2006 Scream, also with Monsters. It's an absolute pig to ride now though and at 54lbs I genuinely don't know how I used to fling it around

best of show? banshee scream, obviously. amazing he's still got an arrow tire on there. wonder what the weight spread between that & the spur below it would be? 10lbs+ anyways.

also: what's with all the too long chains? *bike setup neurosis triggered*
  • 1 0
That "Scream" Josh Bender right there on the Banshee!!!
  • 2 2
Pretty much any wide range transmission will look like it has too long a chain when on the smallest cog. Once again I made the mistake of shortening my chain because, like you, I could not accept to have a chain that was too long. It resulted on very poor shifting especially on the biggest cogs. I pit back 2 of the 3 links I took out and dremeled my B-screw to have my upper jockey wheel sit close enough. I should have put back the 3 links since even this didn't restore the flawless I had with a "too long" chain, on I only rock a 11-46 so imagine on a 10-50.
  • 1 0
Need more old bikes! These new bikes are boring. I think vintage dh bikes at Whismas should become a tradition like 80s outfits on Gaper Day!

Lotta people with the NF pants

More and more ladies every year, soooo awesome!
  • 8 0
Whew.. that's a lot of scrolling just to get to the comments. Anything good up there?
  • 7 0
OK, what's with all the wacky button-up shirts in the Opening Day segments? Is this a tradition for Whistmas? Honestly, wondering.
  • 15 0
Its a vibe. Can't look too racey, or freeridey or even too dirtbaggy....so gotta look like you party train on every run with a Kokanee in the bottle cage.
  • 9 2
The spindrift with the dual crown fork looks pretty weird tbh. props to the homie riding it tho.
  • 14 1
 That homie is Remy Metailler!
  • 11 1
 Homie = Remy Metailler?
  • 1 0
And probably more like the Rage than the Spindrift
  • 12 0
I saw that spindrift and and knew it was Remy due to him probably being the only person on this continent to get one.
  • 2 0
Just listen to the music he always puts on his longer edits and you know he's a homie.
  • 9 0
 That Spur down Aline FTW
  • 2 0
Haha that’s what I thought! Bike looks good!
  • 1 0
I'm actually curious if it survived the day. I'm all for the "less is more"-attitude of new school trail bikes, but there are limits of what those things were designed for.
  • 3 0
 @BenTheSwabian:
You didn’t see the video from Monday of the dude riding Dirt Merchant on a BMX then...
m.pinkbike.com/video/506147
  • 2 0
@BenTheSwabian: that was me, i've been riding it non-stop for the past month. It held up great in the park but i just rode A-line all day. Still waiting on some parts for the Patrol build so it was ride the Spur or nothing, super capable little bike!!
  • 1 0
@mattboltz: Haha yeah! I saw you later that evening in NF's Instagram stories. Loving that Spur!!
  • 6 0
Great article! Always cool to see what others are riding. Surprising amount of trail bikes there.
  • 3 0
Based om durability and ruggedness of design combined with shredability, this article tells me what you want to own is a Banshee or a Wilson.

I have had two Banshees and a Wilson. All of them still ride under new owners. Two of them were in Whistler 2013.

Sold off the last Banshee Spitfire V2 (-13) this week - maybe I should have kept it.. they are going up in value again now that you can mullet them. If my new bike wasn't a Knolly I might have betted it might outlast it. Smile
  • 6 0
Neck braces appear to no longer be in fashion?
  • 3 0
 No no...
Actual must have is twisting the bottom of the pants, like i just learned from these photos. Smile
Showing cool socks is now more important than neck braces...
  • 2 0
yeah i was super surprised to see so many people wearing roost guards, but not neck braces? SCI is both likely and catastrophic, compared to whatever injury a chest protector saves you from. I cant imagine wearing a chest protector but not a neck brace, seems super backwards.
  • 2 0
 Replaced with masks
  • 5 0
61 photos of "stoked peeps" and their "sick whips" I could look at em forever ...
  • 2 0
Right. Especially when we still have to wait another week here in SoCal!

4 people still trying to make Hawaiian shirts a thing.

Can't decide whats more savage, putting an SLS spring on a Van R or riding with the red covers on the 40's pressure knobs. Always love the raw gambler though.
  • 3 0
Intense must make more prototypes than they do production bikes. Are they missing a trick by not releasing a model called the "Prototype"?
  • 2 0
Obviously not a competition, but based on the looks, Remy's grey Propain Spindrift with the dual crown fork is my favourite. With the raw alloy Scott Gambler as a close second.
  • 1 0
We hear a lot about the need for bigger bikes but I see also a lot of riders needing small bikes, especially with the rise of longer bikes and big wheels. Maybe some 26 XXS park bike won't be so bad... I guess tall people are more vocals than small ones
  • 3 0
Don't understand why so many have carbon cranks,on this type of bikes...but I'm a sucker for these pics

I dont dig this new trend with bending the long pants for the socks sake ! like for real,we re riding bikes not here for some haute couture show.....kids

id much rather wear cool socks than grey pants
  • 4 0
@laceloop: man I dig coool socks and basically most my socks are cool, but christ with this silly kids new trend of just twisting the bottom of your pants just to show them off....like wtf ..... ride bikes have fun .... dont be too trendy dont push it that way....

On Maxxis tires, do you 1) align the valve stem between the XX in "Maxxis", 2) align the valve stem next to the tire size and psi rec, or 3) who cares put it anywhere?

 between the XX Smile

This a great reminder that there is no one "right" bike and the best bike for the ride is the one you have. Love the one your with.
  • 1 0
 Such a nice feature.

If you had to ride for the day on one of these bikes, which one would you choose?

Has to be the scream for me as it would probably be so frightening to ride compared to anything remotely modern.
  • 2 0
The Norco Sight kid should see if the Devinci Wilson guy two pics before wants to trade. One has bike up to his waist the other has bike up to his shoulders lol!
  • 4 1
Steve V green pants are a vibe.
  • 4 1
Chest protectors but no elbow pads?
  • 9 2
to be fair, I have never used an elbow pad that wasn't distracting and annoying. despite stitches a number of times on the elbows, I cant bring myself to wear them
  • 10 0
A lot of people wear them for the spine protection. Spine>elbow anyday
  • 3 0
Well, one interesting bike anyway. Just happened to be the first one.
  • 2 0
Sweet collection of bikes! My only ponderance is what I did wrong where kids can afford to ride bikes I can only dream of.
  • 3 0
Anyone riding Maxxis tires out there by any chance??
  • 2 0
More info on that prototype Kenda front tire? Not a Pinner and not a Hellkat.

Look to the left of the intense prototype. Its BCpov's deviate highlander.
  • 2 0
The YETI guy is throwing a White pride hand signal, pretty sure. Isn't it. Tell me I am wrong

That black Banshee is a Darkside, not a Rune v2. Easy mistake to make.

Love the lead Banshee, but not a *single* Cove?!?!? I'm going next year just to get my G Spot in the mix!

@crysvb: Tons of Evils over here on the island.. strange that the mainland see's less. Same w Forbidden's - round here every 3rd bike is druid. Kinda like Commencal over here - as in - there are none. Likely to do w dealer networks.

External armor back in style or it’s the rental noobs....
  • 6 1
It is the way. Not of the noobs or jerry's. Fully back in style. Began last year. Safety is never a bad style, but now it's cool.
  • 1 0
the only external armour I see here is chest protectors and neck braces, which have always been external as far back as I can remember.

Have you been in a coma for the past 18 months?
  • 4 0
They're like goggles for your mouth.
  • 2 1
@lacuna: the key is just to not watch the news. I've worked and played as usual without skipping a beat the last 18 months. All while living in the greater Los Angeles area
  • 4 1
 WEAR YOUR MASK, you FASCIST
  • 1 1

@hallio7: I became stronger and some of the worst symptoms subsided over time. I've been vaxmaxxing for almost 4 months now and I feel as though I'm becoming something greater than human now.
  • 2 1
@hallio7: so you do know what the masks are for, despite not watching the news
  • 2 0
@lacuna: I know a guy who knows a guy who listened to one of Alex Jones' podcasts on INFOWARSDOTCOM and he filled me in
  • 1 0
@hallio7: Oh for real, is that on god? I think I know him as well.
