Week two of the Clif Crankworx Summer Series has shifted the travelling circus northeast to Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Located a few clicks outside Golden, British Columbia, Kicking Horse is nestled on the edge of the Canadian Rockies - set one foot here and it is easy to see you aren’t in Kansas anymore. (Sorry Kansas).

With trails equalling the view, riders frothed at the opportunity to race a more enduro-esque course this time around.

The stoke is felt by everyone.

bigquotesToday was one of the most fun races I think I’ve ever had. I liked the tracks this week. They feel a bit more enduro. It kind of feels like Europe, but with flow.Miranda Miller

Miranda ended up breaking her streak of 3rd places, finishing second to ALN, missing out on the top spot by .03 of a second. Casey Brown rounded out the women’s podium, finishing 3rd. Vaea Verbeeck’s streak of four podiums (3 straight wins), was broken. Vaea finished 4th.

On the men’s side, could Finn be working his way into enduro? Finn finished with an overall best time of 18:00:17 - besting second place finisher Kasper Woolley by 27 seconds, and 3rd place finisher Rhys Verner by 33.5 seconds.

bigquotesI feel like I’m in the best shape of my life right now.Finn Iles

If he keeps riding like this - he’ll end up taking the CCSS crown by the end of the next stop.

Enough yammering - let's get to the photos with the captions.

That is until riders dropped in. The rock garden inside Pipestone caused many a crash.

The worst victim was Jesse Melamed, who went OTB, but managed to recover, finishing 6th

ALN ran a solid race today, besting Miranda Miller by .03 of a second.

Speaking of Miranda, she looked fast and determined all day.

Nothing slowed Finn down today, taking top spot by over 27 seconds.

Finn Isles rocking a Rocky Mountain water bottle...

oh $hit.. did he take a stranger's bottle? That's rude!

@danimaniac: will this be the next doping scandal?

 @danimaniac: grave mistake

He was going so fast, he had time to pick up some debris that was on the trail!! Yeah...that's it....

Nice ... finn is totally destroying the enduro scene

I love that the DH guys come into the enduro scene and smack ‘me down. Downhill is the major leagues

@robbiekane: Not saying Finn wouldn't do well in traditional enduro, but these events have zero climbing sections. It's a stage DH race. Part of top level EWS is seeing how a rider handles taking on the last stages of the day after having been on the bike for a several hours, climbing a thousand+ metres.
  • 2 0
There's no way he kept his bike setup that he stated the other day, is there???
  • 12 0
@jayacheess: Kicking Horse enduro = 220m of climbing between stages 1 and 2, 400m of climbing between stages 3 and 4. Not 1000+ metres, but not nothing either.
  • 2 0
@jayacheess: I hear ya. That is true. The DH guys are fit enough to do some
climbing as well. I bet you they would still crush it on a stage with plenty of climbing.
  • 5 2
Bit of an over-statement there! The vast majority of the top EWS riders aren't here. We'll see how well he does at a proper EWS race once they restart....
  • 3 1
@Paco77: ok. Let’s take all the pro DH riders and throw them into the EWS and see how they all do. I bet you they would crush it. You can’t tell me pro DH’ers aren’t good at climbing.

@BlackCrowe: 620m is absolutely nothing to these guys, its a regular day at the office for me and im very (very, very) far from the fitness level this field is at. thats not to say I think longer climbs would have changed the outcome for finn, just look at the man hes an absolute beast.
  • 3 1
@Albatrosse: exactly, Finn is a beast. As well as all pro DHer’s. A 1000 meter climb in an enduro race isn’t going to slow them down enough for some enduro racer to catch up. Pro DH racers training programs are probably insane.

@jayacheess: Anyone that thinks DH riders aren't fit AF needs to think again.
These guys are professional athletes and train to win.
  • 2 0
@Yaan: So do EWS riders. But they train for different things. It's foolish to think that a DH riders haven't stepped in to EWS in the past and automatically started winning everything. It's taken a couple seasons of acclimation before results start to happen. These events are definitely set up to give DH riders a better shot given how lift accessed they lean.

Now all that said, Finn might be one of the fastest riders downhill in the world. That makes up for a lot.

 @Paco77: yeah!
Also Enduro guys have upper hand on memorizing trails and riding in uncertainty.
Fitness wise they should be on similar levels. Still Enduro is more about stamina while DH is more about explosive power.

@robbiekane: Tell that to Martin Maes......

it’d be cool to see full course recaps, lots of us are bc residents (ive lived in golden in the past, and spent at least a dozen days at silverstar over the years) and know these resorts well. it’d be cool to know the full course theyre racing

Why don't hear about the racers that made it through the rock garden without crashing, instead of all the crashes.

@ClintTrahan and pinkbike - thanks for the photos and coverage! This is a nice treat with the lack of racing this year and with my bike trips being canceled or at least postponed.

I thought the goal of a pan shot was to get the rider in focus and the background blurred, no? These are like those optical illusions that seem to move.
  • 11 0
the goal is subjective. to me anyway. =)
  • 2 0
I rather like the shot where the only thing in focus is the eyes.

Pans are sick... I love scanning the whole photo to see where that one juicy focal point is in relation to the rest of it.

Holy Banana phone that rock garden

it is a gnarly, gnarly garden. It ate nearly all riders.

Kasper Woolley what a bad ass hahaha, looked at him on the hot seat on the DH and answering that he races with his Yeti because is his only bike was funny but has some speed with him!!!

ALN is my favorite but we have to see Finn and Kasper battle Richie and Sam in an EWS this fall!!
