4 years ago I took a year out to cycle to India, I got as far as Tajikistan including most of the Pamir highway. Unfortunately I couldn't get a Pakistan visa so had to fly over to Delhi. Gutted, but hey.. these things can't be planned. from Delhi I rode up to the Khardung la pass. Nice surprise seeing it pop up on Pinkbike, I even have a photo of the guy at 26sec… he's ageing well.
There's nearly enough money in the bank to go back, but this time with my mountain bike :-)

This video was really beyond cool! Loved it, and hated it..i torn my meniscus 5 months ago and wasnt able to ride my bike. Just watching videos here on PB and envying the shit out of them. Where i live healthcare is just bad, man you have no idea, docs here try to rob you like hell. I mean you hear shit so serious here it's not even funny. And i am having same problem not sure if should i operate my knee or not. And i thought you know what. I can ask my pps on PB if you guys (which probably yes) had an experience with torn meniscus, should i keep riding or what should i do. Cuz i just can't take it no more. I look my bike sometimes and it just makes me feel damn bad. Help pls, share whatever your experience you have about torn meniscus and riding MTB. Thnx everyone, and thnx pb for keeping me spirit high Smile
  • 3 0
A Doc once told me if you can use it....then use it.....if you cant lets operate
  • 3 0
Just a word of warning. If there is a tear of the meniscus that is not seated completely. It can move or flip and then cause much more damage to other cartilage of the knee. This can be a real problem if you ride and it grinds on the surface of the femur. This happened to me and I needed surgery to fix it. I couldn't bear any weight for 6 weeks. So, get it fixed if this is the case.
  • 1 0
@Bird-Man thnx for response! Well i kinda can and cannot, i can bear it cuz it doesnt hurt that much, but in the same time i am a bit afraid that i might make it worst. I would like to know what you did, did you keep riding, and it healed by time. Or what did you do ? Or maybe you had diff problem
  • 1 0
@cedarb, how do i know that? I made a MRI, and my doc didnt even tell me if my torn was big or what it was, just told me right away i had to operate it, and another doc, told me that i don't have to operate it. Just make some physical training. And now i am not sure who should i believe. But thnx for sharing guys!
  • 1 0
So you got a monkey wrench in the knee joint. See a third doctor for the tie breaker. And avoid open surgery if possible. Instead get laparoscopic surgery, and you will be good to ride within one week hopefully.
  • 1 0
Depends on location and severity of the tear. If the tear is an area that has a blood supply, it's possible to heal with physiotherapy. If the tear is in an area without blood supply, then surgery may be needed. Basically physio will strengthen the muscles supporting the knee so the knee itself doesn't take as much weight, allowing it to rest and heal.
  • 1 0
@amirazemi if possible, get a second opinion
from another doc with the same MRI data
  • 1 0
I tore a pretty large chunk of my miniscus off, had 3 surgeries to fix it. also cracked my kneecap in half, and had to reconstruct a tendon... but yeah, the miniscus part sucked.
  • 2 0
Amirazemi I had a tiny crash 6/6/14. Just landed on my knees as I had a 100 times before with pass on. But as soon as I hit the floor I knew it hurt.
Long two weeks to find I had fractured my fibia joint surface. Smashed my femur joint surface. They took these bones out as they couldn't be fixed. Broke my acl and mpfl. Ruptured my pcl. Also tore my meniscus.
I know what it's like to watch stuff! I'm still off work.
They sewn my meniscus back together. Put a new ligament to my knee cap from my hamstring. To fix the mpfl. Then braced my leg for the pcl. Then no standing for 3 months.
Then working on it to get it bending again.
I would say get your meniscus fixed. It's got to last you forever. So I led to believe with out it you will get arthritis. Which is a new knee. More money than a repair.
I just had an acl reconstruction and now recovering from that. More time!
After 7 moths I've accepted I'm not that fussed about hitting big jumps or crazy dh stuff no more. Just to ride a bike will be enough.
Even looking at a ltd edition M9 that is basically brand new doesn't make me want to go through this again.
  • 1 0
Thnx guys for you replays, let's hope it goes best! I will probably take another opinion from a third doctor and see what he has to say.

Where was the 18000 foot descent? I didnt see them pull up to the beach at the end...
  • 6 1
LOL @ mountain bikers affording a $50K (MSRP; starting) SUV.
  • 5 1
why not? over here its a 100k msrp vehicle... its not that hard

although im getting a hennesy 600 raptor instead (think over double for what you would pay in the states) as it can carry the motorbikes too.

Big soft spot for mercedes though ... have two old/restored ones that are way older than me (w109 300sel 6.3 and the car that started it all, a w123 300D).
  • 1 0
Street legal motorbikes? Why do you need the raptor to carry them?
  • 3 1
have both... but yes, even for road bikes... track days.

plus shutle days, etc.. since when do you ever have to try and justify a raptor as the answer? The answer for a raptor should always be yes.
  • 3 0
It's the Ferrari of trucks. Just asked because I rather drive it than a motorbike on public roads. But if your taking your motorbikes to the race track in your Raptor, you don't need to justify the truck. You "need" it to warm up for the race. Cheers!
  • 1 0
would rather be on the motorbike every time (its just that if you are going to be in a vehicle, it may as well be fun).. except when its really cold/hot/raining... so much faster in traffic and so much more fun.In a 4 wheeled vehicle, you can only ever be as fast as the car in front (I dont have that kind of patience). Plus there are some amazing mountain passes where in the local area.

This car is worth like twenty houses in that vilage. Still stoked for the boys!

I like it when the blonde Weird Al Yankovic jumps his bike.
  • 3 1
Even though it is a bit lame when companies unrelated to biking use biking in their ads it is still good for the sport, as long as it's done right.
  • 5 0
 love it

 wow looks hella fun

didn't watch the vid. just looked at pix and read captions. i think it's damn cool, but i wonder about injuries and medical care in a developing country like tibet. it is tibet, right? i must be getting old.

The head bobbling hair dresser gave it away.

Dude, that picture of the road sign. If I understand the abbreviations right the sign is at 16 Trillion Feet above sea level, or the conversion on the lower right showing 54 Royal Canadian Centuries, a road-biking term, though why they'd use that term in India...

That had an eastwood spaghetti western feel. Awesome

What would have earnt my respect is them selling that car an giving the money to the people. Even if the people earnt something for letting them film in their town, imagine how much their lives could have changed from the amount of money that car is worth. Probably not a whole large amount, but more than the experience of watching two guys and a car they can't afford drive past them.
  • 4 1
What makes you think they want their world to change? They probably live pretty awesome lives by not dealing with western drama.
  • 1 0
Nothing suggests they want their world to change, but some money to help pay for food or a bike for the children to play with does not hurt. Pretty hard to not deal with western drama when you have a western car worth more than your house driving past you throughout the day...
  • 1 0
@NateTeh i really hope you donate a lot to charities and use online lending programs like KIVA to help small businesses in impoverish areas. I'm sure you have all sorts of things those people don't.

Uhhh welcome to pinkbike where you watch ads all day. That is literally what the front page is
  • 7 0
Ads like White Style Highlights, 2014 Photo of the Year, Post Office Jumps, reviews, bike checks etc etc... It's free, obviously they need to run a couple of sponsored ads.
  • 2 1
well yeah White Style Highlights were posted by Bikepark Leogang who definitely have an interest in getting you to visit and spend money there, most likely paid advertising. at least 70% of what is posted on the front page has been paid somehow. if you look on sites other than pinkbike you can see that pinkbike gets into arrangements with bike manufactures to do "reviews" and "first look" type things for companies it all can have an element of bias. sure Pink Bike does a good job overall but you have to be naive to think they aren't making money from these deals
