This is raw footage from Iago Garay's Contour camera during the 2013 Megavalanche. He finished in 8th place overall and the complete video was around 45 minutes long.
I was just thinking i would rather see a video from one of the mid pack riders....cheers that was a good video. major props to these guys that takes some real guts to do!
ahahaha laughed my ass off when the guy came screaming down the hill and took him out... normally there would be ambulances and lot of pain, but there its just laughing and having a good time. it looks like such a great way to spend the off season of biking
Andy said it right, rode it this year and was mid pack within 350 people and it is one of the most heart pounding things waiting for those tapes to lift!
that seriously looks like the most epic ride I have ever seen. always love it when the megavalanche comes round but never seen a vid mid pack, it has now become my goal to get right in the middle and ride it
That looks more like my ride... Crashing and being crashed into, torn up snow so you can't go in a straight line atall so much fun. Every year my brakes are messed up by the time I reach the scree slope.
Have to say, Iago is the man! Super nice guy, really good rider that doesn't get much publicity. The Right Direction Youth Program represent! Can't wait to ride the compound with you again. Devou trails are awaiting. Haha.
What an incredible video, Garay is a beast! Hanging in there with the top dudes.
In the vid Atherton is 1st, then Jerome, Absalon, Anrig & Garay are fighting for 2nd... until Atherton eats it at the 2:57 mark! Amazing he came back to second after the crash.
Great insight into the such an awesome mega race. and yes Obeh, it would be sick to see the whole footage from that contour!
Check out this vid. Shows what it's like for the rest of the field once the snow has been trashed Don't blink or you'll miss him getting taken out at ludicrous speed. www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=637922876218865
ahah but really such a sick video the falls where epic, i have always wanted to ride down a ski mountain with snow on it. any one know how slippery it is with regular DH tires?
Depends a lot on the snow quality. I ride on snow quite a lot during the winter. With low temperatures and good surface normal DH tires bites and rolls like a dream. But what you see on the vid here is that the surface snow starts to get melted by the temp and sunlight, the snow gets wet and "slushy" very quickly in sunlight, after the surface snow melts, you can imagine riding downhill on asphalt, with 4inches of soft sand on top of it... Basically no MTB tire has good traction on that, or maybe some 3.8" fat tire could have, but...
I'm sure you "could"...but you're not going to be NEARLY as fast as they are! Don't underestimate that course just based on a few videos. When something looks kinda big, or kinda fast, or kinda rocky on a gopro, the reality is usually a very different story. Cameras rarely do justice to the real experience.
Hey willclh, or whatever your name is, STFU. There is nothing to underestimate about the vid. They're going at 100+kmph, that's like 61mph over a glacier on the top of an Alpine mountain! Have you ever been in one? Let alone, ride it down? Again, STFU
well willclh if you actually do it on your fixie 29er i will show up and do it wearing just my boxers. my advice willclh is get a life and learn to actually ride a bike and quit talkin shit.

I wonder if the first bit is possible on a CX bike though. The rocky bits would be impossible.
