I was first introduced to the concept of a Squamish family run bike related business back in 2012. I spent a weekend hanging out and riding with Chris Heynen and Yael Greenfeld of Oneup Components and was totally inspired by their lifestyle and Chris's passion about anything biking related. So, when it turned out that Dustin and his family lived right down the road from Chris and Yael, I laughed to myself at how cool it is that there are two young families living so close together building up truly BC born businesses.

NOBL started by making all of their rims relatively wide, asymmetrical, with bead seat bumps, hook-less, and smooth curves so that voids in the laminate are not a problem. When it comes to carbon rim manufacturing, you're putting a lot of faith in the manufacturing process and this is where Trevor spends most of his time. Trevor is not sure how many owners of carbon wheel businesses can actually make their own product from start to finish. NOBL’s commitment to making the best product possible first and foremost is what separates them. They are a carbon wheel company, and they have set out to build the best carbon wheels in the world.

Dustin Adam's background in mountain biking started in 1993 when he began riding a fully rigid Giant Rincon, with eight inch double swept bar ends that were anodized purple. He remembers his biggest want in life was a Syncros stem......so that dates him a bit! Early on he was both an XC racer as well as DH. He moved to the Downhill side of the sport after his junior years and it became more mainstream. As a young professional he had struggles with injures and finding his stride, all the while becoming National Champion and becoming a top contender at most Downhill races in Canada. In 2002, largely thanks to the support of Sean Jenkins, he ended up getting a shot to prove what he was truly capable of. Racing the US based NORBA National Series he was lucky enough to keep injury free and have some good success racing down south and on the World Cups in North America. Dustin's background has been racing and he will always have a soft spot for it, after spending almost 15 years dedicated to the clock.

It’s in the fine details that makes one rim better from another. NOBL is steadily improving them and release upgrades constantly. They've scrapped entire molds in order to shave off 0.1 mm in one area and add 0.1 mm in another. Any company can make a rim of the same dimensions, weight, and appearance, but those traditional measures are the least important when it comes to measuring a product's performance. NOBL spends 30 days per year on average at the factory working on product development hands-on. There are just two workers that perform our specific layups, and they analyze every manufacturing step intimately so that they can develop our own processes. Trevor is really the technical guru at NOBL and he'd rather focus on development and let the product speak for itself rather than on trying to be a marketing company that happens to sell carbon rims.

Dustin and his wife Sherri visited their long time buddy Kelly Servinski on his 30th birthday down in Kelly's neck of the woods, Squamish. He took Sherri and Dustin for a six hour tour of the trails and town. Kelly planted the seed and it never really left their minds of how great of a place Squamish could be for them. After 4 years of kicking around the idea, they and decided it would be a great community. Dustin was wanting to get back into the bike industry and be able to raise his young boys in a really healthy outdoorsy community. Squamish was a perfect fit and has so much to offer an active lifestyle. The community is very active and has a solid amount of people who are in similar positions as Dustin and his family. Dustin and Sherri really wanted to bring their kids up in an active environment. When it came to NOBL, Squamish just made sense, with trails right out the door, and the entire Sea to Sky Corridor at their fingertips. The industry is starting to grow a small community of great brands that also choose to call Squamish home base. Dustin and Trevor wanted to be early pioneers to Squamish in terms of a base for the mountain biking industry, and begin to seed their roots. Product testing can be done year round and there is no shortage of skilled riders to put the products to the test.

Dustin's connection to NOBL started through Facebook of all places, no joke. He had known about NOBL via one of the owners Ryan for almost 2 years. Ryan had been a customer of Dustin's up in Kamloops and they managed to cross paths many times over the years. Ryan had posted an ad on Facebook looking for an operations manager for NOBL and Dustin made the contact immediately. This is where Dustin met Trevor and he immediately loved his passion and the story about how he began the company. It felt like a great fit for everyone right away, especially because they all had different strengths that could really help grow NOBL to the next level. Ryan proposed the idea of Dustin becoming a partner and buying into the company because he felt that I could bring a wealth of testing knowledge, a keen understanding of the industry, as well as business experience to the brand. It was discussed on how and where they wanted to see NOBL taken, and they all had similar ideas. After many meetings and 9 months, the company is strong and focused.

NOBL want the riders to understand that they are not another marketing company buying open moulded carbon products and slapping some decals on there and saying you should buy this!! They own, design and engineer all of their products in house. They have been trying to improve on all of their moulding processes with each bit of feedback they receive. At the end of the day the product has to perform and that is what is so attractive about being involved, no fluff!! There is enough of that out there already!
