THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT AS THIS TEAM OF JUNIOR DOWNHILL RACERS HIT THE TRACK AT WINTER PARK
It all came to fruition at the NW Cup in Whitefish just earlier this month when Asa Vermette, Ryder Lawrence and Gavin Tomlinson, each 15 years old, swept the top steps of the U18 category with the day’s fastest times. Right on their heels was Cash Shaleen, claiming the day’s fourth fastest time at just 13 years old in the Cat 2 13-14 group, still too young to race among the Junior X. All four times were faster than the pros and all on the same course. We knew at that moment that the DVO Grom Squad was a heater of a junior team, ready for Nationals.
Our vision for the DVO Grom Squad, to go beyond suspension support and groom the future of racing, culminates this week at the USA Cycling Mountain Bike Nationals in Winter Park, Colorado where Asa Vermette, Ryder Lawrence, Gavin Tomlinson, Von Heater and Cash Shaleen will be pacing for the stars and stripes.
“When we assembled the team, we chose to challenge the norm and focus on youth racing, providing the team with the collective knowledge that decades of racing and the industry has provided us. We leverage our established pros such as Brian Lopes and Joey Foresta to mentor the kids and their parents on essentials like bike set up, equipment, tracking reading, nutrition and fitness. We choose to treat them like elite racers so they know what it takes” says DVO Founder, Bryson Martin.
