 BA-DUM-TSSSSSS FOR SURE !
  • 10 1
2k is what i paid for my truck.. i couldnt even imagine shelling out 1k for rims, let alone 1k PER.
  • 6 1
How can a set of rims cost more than a top of the line DH race fork? hell i could get a fork and a new shock for almost the same price!
  • 7 0
Man I used to think that... now somehow my bike is worth way more than my car...
  • 2 0
the series goes by the rate at which you are going "downhill"
from the m50 to cross country to the m90 being the downhill rim. YES they do cost and arm and a leg and yes they are a bitch to build
  • 4 0
Yes, they are TOO expensive, Yes you have to remove the tire and rim tape to true them or replace a spoke etc (not that I've had to yet). But I've never had as dramatic improvement in performance from any bike part, ever. I put a set of their 26am on my 2010 Spec. Enduro Comp last year. It immediately became as good or better climber than the several carbon framed FS 29ers I've gotten to take on multiple day test rides/demos. I am a lifelong rider who is 41 years old, they really do make any mtb into an entirely new beast. My Enve wheel set is so nice I don't even care about 26,27.5, or 29 debate, cause my bike just feels so awesome I'm not worried about what my next bike will be. Just keep checking for a used set in classifieds, etc. I've seen them as low as $1200 for 29"am wheel set. or you can always get into the new Ibis wheels for a lot less, which is what I'll likely end up doing on my next new bike. I have a personal beef with Enve as a company, So I probably won't buy anything from them again, but they do make some damn good wheels.
  • 2 4
You never had as dramatic improvement as by a wheelset? I see no way wheelset to improve my bike more than a fork, brakes, handlebar or a dropper seatpost. It depends on what are you replacing and what are you replacing with. Wheelsets are part of a bike when you can get some compromises (unless you go for a really heavy wheelset) in favor of a better suspension, dropper post or better tyres. Well, if all these components of your bike are top notch then maybe wheelset is the way to go. But I'm pretty sure you can get similar wheelset in terms of weight for half of the price.

my Taiwanese cahbon rims feel pretty darn good for 160 bucks a pop.. sorry enve too rich for my blood. Awesome video though! Could watch Josh ride all day long!

@Mentalhead: Since I bought the enduro I've upgraded to XO cranks, Lyrik RC2L fork, Spec Blacklite dropper, Enve bars and stem, and hans dampf tires. I upgraded over a long period of time. dropper post was first, which has been great. Then the XO cranks which gave the bike nice snappy acceleration. I got the Lyrik RC2L as a warranty replacement for the solo air that was OEM, which also has greatly improved damping and tuning options, giving the bike much more control especially at high speed. Next I bought used crank bros carbon bars that were much lighter and a little bit wider(720) than the OEM (680) which gave a more damped, smoother ride. All of these parts made noticeable improvements, but the wheels definitely made the biggest difference both for making hill climbs a LOT easier, wider profile which helped support the tires at lower pressure (@20-26 psi depending on conditions) and being able to blaze downhill without worrying about bending a rear rim. When I got the Enve RSR bar at 740mm the difference wasn't very much, but after adding the Enve stem, they work better together than separately, offering a quiet ride, stiffer and softer at the same timecard to explain. The point I was trying to make was that Enve wheels are almost worth the money. I didn't have to pay full price for all my Enve components. I agree they are too expensive, but if you can afford them they are more than just hype, they make your bike ride better. And FWIW: an upgraded wheel set can make a 30lb 26" bike climb equal to a 27lb 29" Tallboy Ltc. Your forks would have to be total crap (like going from 32mm stanchions, rebound only and qr axle to 36mm stanchions and 20mm axle with good compression and rebound adjustments) to make as big a difference as a great wheel set.
  • 4 0
Well then @mentalhead, you definitely don't have a degree in physics. Wheels are the first thing to change if you want an improvement, believe me. This is even more true for a road/cross/xc bike...
  • 1 3
Sorry for disapointing you, but I upgarded lot of parts of my first xc/trail hardtail bike from lower end components, to mid level and above and I benefit from all of these upgrades, but I mostly did it on my fork upgrade (coil suntour to air rockshox), brakes (mechanical to hydraulic), hadlebar (it gets wider), tyres (much better grip) and I will put my new wheels after all these things. Yes, my Mavic rims will bent much harder, and I shaved some grams (not so many) and we all know that rotational weight is much more noticeable (I know there is something called Physics, even if I wasn't the biggest fan of it), but I would ever go for suspension or braking upgarde, before I look at my wheels. Not to mention even drivetrain alternatives with the new 1x trend.
I'm not saying wheels are not a good improvement. For me personally they are not on top of the list. And for the price of a new frameset I wouldn't even say the "wheelset" word on public.
  • 1 1
^if you buy a walmart bike, everything is an upgrade!! haha
  • 2 0
I didn't buy a walmart bike. My bike was Scott hardtail bike, which I don't think you can find in your walmart stores. But it was lower end spec bike, yes. And I made it mid to high end bike. Similar upgrade steps for everything including wheelsets. And wheelsets was definitely not the most noticeable change on the bike. I gave this example, because it is a perfect example for bike upgardes - starting from the lower end components, where you can feel the biggest difference when upgarding. It's somehow obvious, don't you think?
  • 1 0
Bummer, Someguy101! Did you know the second it happened was there a loud pop or anything? were you running very low pressure? I am always riding a fine line between low pressure tubeless and having enough PSI to prevent pinch flats or cracking the bead of the rim. I'd like to try running below 20psi on certain trails, but I'm too worried to run less than 21 psi. I really like the design of the derby/isis rims bead profile because of the extra protection.
  • 1 0
It isn't my photo. You should ask the owner. He said it was under warranty and will be replaced though. So it's not the end of the world but still, for $3000 you would expect wheels that are super tough. If I was to build me a dream rig I would probably go for alloys as they are cheaper and you don't have to check them for damage every time you do something silly. Perfect for a clumsy rider like myself.

Rims are a WASTE of $$$, I ride rock gardens and they suck in them!
  • 25 1
I guess with such an expensive product it was only fitting to throw money at an outrageous promotional video VOD or possibly VOM!!!! good job enve, you've made it clear that if i buy your rims ill shred like they do in your video, TAKE MY MONEY! oh wait, I'm broke
  • 7 4
but wait theirs more! If you crack it its only $600 to replace it!

 There's

 Cracked one of mine,free replacement.

Yeah? Strange... I've replaced multiple DH hoops with ENVE and haven't paid a penny more than what I bought them for. Wink

so you cracked ri9ms you were stupid enough to pay 2 grand for. For two grand i would expect rims not to even budge its mental . I have had a set of deemax for ten years i ride fairly hard i only replaced the bearings 2 years ago .... i will stick with deemax.
  • 10 0
Yeah? That must be because you're some sort of special carbon engineer boy genius, eh? (Just like everyone else on this site)... And I'm stupid for purchasing my preferred components with my money?

Ride more, bitch less and maybe you would actually ride well enough to break those Deemax wheels in. Wink

But hey... Good luck with all of that carbon hate you've got going on; I hear that only the most brilliant engineers hate on stuff they've never tested... You must be stunningly intelligent.
  • 22 0
To the film makers who made this, I tip my hat to you. You've made me want something I have zero money or need for! You sirs are marketing geniī, well played, well played indeed.
  • 18 1
So my understanding of this video is that all the riders crashed, which then required decal redesigns before they could get back up?
  • 12 0
Want a pair of each now but only thing is if the 70 is used like that then the average guy doesn't need the 90 ?? Sorry I love enve just a point
  • 1 0
That's what I was thinking, the stuff that the guys were doing on the 70's was way more serious than I ever do on my big bike. I don't think I will need the 90's when I win the lottery and definitely buy a set of these.
  • 1 0
The four sizes are actually just different rim widths. The smallest is the same as previous years' XC, the next size is the same as the AM, the next size is a new width for aggressive trail/park/jumping and the largest number is the new DH racing width. I think the narrow DH rims are being phased out. The whole 70/30, 80/20, downhill/uphill ratio nomenclature is just a marketing name instead of inner rim width, which I believe would make more sense, because that's what's been changed on the two widest, beside the decals of course.
  • 9 0
Commercial or not, that video was awesome. Should've launched this before their press release, might have been a bit less bitching about the cost lol.
  • 11 0
 Wow, what a video....
  • 6 0
Found it weird that Josh, riding the M90 which I assume is the all singing all dancing strong as sh*t DH rim, was hitting far tamer stuff than the lads in BC on the M70, which is lighter and apparently designed for 150mm-190mm travel and 2.3-2.4 width tyres.

Just an observation but though that was strange especially as they are marketing them for different disciplines. Plus if you are going to put "limits" on the rims like they have ( intended travel of bike and tyre width), pretty sure again the lads in BC where on some sexy looking 200mm DH sleds.....oh look... yep demo!

Anyway, I'm 100% sure they are all awesome but i'm not spending my hard money on a set of rims, i'll leave that to the surrey hill weekend warrior banker crowd, p.s banker can also be spelt with a "W"... just saying! ;-)
  • 5 0
Best product launch video I have seen in a long time! If I buy the wheels I don't think I will be able to afford to travel anywhere to ride though.
  • 5 3
I've seen a lot of questions about the high price of Enve's rims/wheel sets. Yes the price is very high, but it is high because they are designed, tested and made in the United States, not designed in the US and made/tested in Taiwan. There you can get a qualified carbon fiber worker to accept less pay than the US minimum wage. And for the US minimum wage you can get teens and non-college grads to work for you (who wants a 16 year old, who is more interested in video games than bikes, to build their carbon rim?) There is no way you would get a qualified person to work for less than a living wage in the US. The cost of labor in the US is high, so the cost of US made goods is usually high.

So why buy these? Well, the number one reason should be that you want them, and obtained the money (legally) to get them. But you should also consider getting them because they are made in the US, and that purchase helps the US economy more than the purchase of any other MTB carbon rim will. Don't live in the US and so you don't care about the US economy? Just consider that if your country's economy had a slump that started near the end of 2008 or beginning of 2009 shows that the health of your country's economy is effected by the health of the US economy. And the better the economy of a country, generally the better the jobs pay, and the less products cost.

Anyway, this is just somethings to think about. You don't have to buy them (I won't until I can afford them...in a few years.) But hopefully you have a bit more knowledge.

Daaaang it, so cool! All this rad mtb stuff coming out that I want...but my healthcare cost, gas, living in general at all time high with economy at a seriously difficult time. I need some quantitative easing!
  • 2 0
I don't get the naming convention. Someone help me out with the 'logic' applied, if any. Might explain what happened the M80-20...

Also, does M-series imply ENVE will be producing another series of rims?
  • 2 0
"M" as in Mountain series, I assume
  • 1 0
A guess is that there will be an R series for the next gen road bike rims

GREAT product launch video, great utah company, great wheels! i wish i was part of your $2k wheel set target audience.

Now to be realistic.
Do any of us need those wheels to have a great rig... no! this is the type of thing that riders complain about products costing an arm and a leg to have. There are other companies like ibis with similar products for less or spend less then 1k for great crankbrothers wheels. i know alot of my fellow socal riders can afford these but i cant, oh well im still going to shred!!
  • 2 0
Ok...so that was the COOLEST commercial I have ever seen. It was almost 7 minutes of action-packed mountain biking goodness. This is probably the only commercial I have ever wanted to watch another time.
  • 1 0
KSL classifieds.com local classifieds for utah, including ogden..... Home of ENVE. People are selling ENVE wheels all the time near half price. some are willing to ship. Thought it'd help someone out to land the wheel set of their dreams.

I could literally buy a horse for the price of these wheelsets. ........ and horses are cool right?
  • 3 0
a horse could ring you up hill easier than any carbon rim, and you get way more carbon out of the deal. go with the horse
  • 3 0
Can I get one enve sticker to cover my mavic ex729 and feel soooo dammn cool???
  • 1 0
Perhaps ENVE is feeling under threat with all the new companies selling carbon sets for ~$1k. Cool promo video but product sales would work best if you have reasonable prices.

$2k rims to go with my new $1800 RS fork...of course now I'm so f'in broke I've got no money to buy a frame to hang 'em on or components, but look at these gottdamn rims and fork!

The ending part was about right for my severe adhd Razz lol that was such a sick vid tho! Too bad I have no money to go spend more on just one rim than I did my car :/. Mby ill just buy enve stickers Big Grin

Flippin' heck what a video... great to see Jim's faithful old white tranny from "the mountain bike adventure" in the algarve... some epic riding from josh in some of the terrain in europe!

That could have been much longer, and I still wouldn't be sick of watching it. Sick slo-mo!
  • 2 0
The real question is whether they'll be blowing out the old style for cheap... damn I hope so.
  • 2 4
 $999 for a rim, $3300 for a wheelset
so no
  • 1 0
That's the pricing for this new M series. The old style XC/AM/DH series are listed at retail at less than that on their site now, and unless they continue making those, most companies would sell off old stock to force customers to buy the new product and get stale inventory off their books.
  • 1 0
Oh sorry I misunderstood. Yeah that'd be cool but still how much off will they give, cause even if they gave 50% off the old wheels it would still be around $1500 for a wheelset
  • 1 0
Rad rims for certain. Sadly for me, I'll have to stick to my poor-man's wheels -- Mavic 325 laced to DT Swiss 350 hubs. Sigh! Woe is me. Ha! Yee-doggie!

Brilliant video. Definitely captures the intensity of the trails. And showcases the limits that these pro riders are pushing their equipment.

The most expensive part in the process is the hook for the bead. No more hook!! SO WHY ARE THEY STILL 2K? I live in ogden and know people who work there. A big rip off!!!!

  • 1 4
Enve, wheels for pros and doctors who want to look fast. When your wheels cost as much as a carbon frame you know your out to rip people off. You are a disgrace To the MTB world. I will stick to my 300 dollar wheel set that lasts season after season and the only thing I have to do is take a crescent wrench to the flat spots. Oh but cool that you give a matching color to the riders bike. Is that the 1000.00 custom fee? Sit on a cactus and rotate rip offs!
